Matrix, you spent so much time asking all that stuff, when you can use the search tool and find everything you are asking for within minutes. Sort Leo-ish.

Hi, Triple. If it was only so easy. I couldn't log in when I joined this site. I had to send a message and wait to get a response, but I did eventually get on. Just now I typed in the login info, a window popped up that said click here if not redirected, and it didn't work. I ended up going to my favorites, and hitting the link to another thread on this site and I managed to get logged in that way which was kind of weird because I thought I would have to enter my name and password again, but I didn't. I joined the site because I couldn't get the search engine to work. I typed in butane and came back with nothing, like the word isn't in the language. I was still being frustrated after I joined in getting anywhere with the search engine. I tried multiple times with different words, and nadda. I haven't tried it yet this time, but it doesn't look very promising when the first try to log on and I get get to watch the arrow that replaced the old hourglass go around in circles for a couple of minutes. I have a good broadband connection, so it's not that.

I read a lot of the pages on this thread and as you can tell I was frustrated. I received a lot of info on the thread that features the CMH bulbs, but from what I read on this thread the main thrust of my questions on extracting oil with lab equipment and coupled with my ignorance of terminology and methods, and just plain ignorance, it didn't look too promising that I was going to find what I want to know without the search engine. I am aware of course that it does say for dummies, but the search engine wasn't, and still may not be working for me. I found this thread wandering around in the dark so to speak, and because there were so many pages, I figured it was home for some “oilers.” Navigating on this site has been difficult. Something isn't right. It's like I got a bad key, and the doors have rusty locks.

I had to log in again just now, because I was no longer logged in, and couldn't post this, though the page said I was.

You might try a different search engine.

Thank you for responding. I have access to the search engine on this sight now. I don't know how the problem corrected it self, I don't know how it did last time either. Another website that was set up like this one gave me problems, for a long time. When the search engine “worked” once I picked a thread from a category I couldn't navigate backwards to the previous page. I could only click Home and had to do the search again every time I picked a thread. Eventually the glitches worked themselves out.

I haven't explored this site, but I have read a good bit of where I have been, so I don't know Mr Triple how long it would have taken me to get the information. I was asking for help because I had problems. It never occurred to me that all the time I spent asking the many things I did, and my stating I had read so many pages, and my obvious ignorance of cannabis, that it would be perceived that using the search engine hadn't occurred to me.

I searched google for steam distillation for marijuana and a bunch of other ways to find what I was looking for, but the word cannabis just wasn't in the lexicon when I smoked and it's always going to be counter intuitive to me since I don't use the stuff. All of the weed I smoked and that was a good bit, in those memories from my youth it isn't cannabis. It already had a name, no one that smoked it referred to, that's what cops called it. I saw nothing resembling the information I was turned on to when I looked in to this before. I'll be sure to use the word cannabis in my efforts next time.Tons of standard BHO and bubble stuff, but nothing applicable for what I wanted.

And I thought the possibilities for innovation were barely explored, Dah! What has been going on out there in California is just an abstract thought to East Coasters, but you folks have started an industry. Research departments and all. That was just what I wanted. The BHO soak for an hour, and a repeat is what I'm thinking since I have a case.

If I ever do it again, I'll use dry ice to get iso cold fast and run it through a Buchner Funnel and rinse with fresh prepared iso.

Thanks again for the lead.

all the BHO ive made becomes rock hard amber, with a color like jurassic park amber. golden light brown, see through....

i use power 5x and 7x..glass tube, ran approx 2-3 oz of high quality trim and larf nugs, used 9 cans and only got 5grams of amber. i plunged the catch tray into the hot water tray at least 3 times...kept purging a little more. barely see any bubbles in my stuff..

im wondering why mine always turns rock hard like candy? i read earlier that having that rockhard amber is the best? sounds good but im tired of having to heat it up to make it maleable again.

how do some of you guys get that real texturous soft BHO, thats almost like half liquid or melting chocolate. its less sticky and easier to dab with....not sure if its better quality.

I personally get the consistency you are seeking by purging with at least 29.5"vacuum for between 24-48hours at a temperature no higher than 110f...

Ten of my last twelve batches have basically "auto-buttered" requiring no further heat or whipping to achieve my personal favorite texture; my preferred texture is almost sugar like, easy to drag a dabber through, but not sticky to even a ten second touch, basically like a really good golden colored piece of fudge just solid enough to break off a piece, but soft enough to mold easily by hand, all the while without sticking to your fingers or the dish it is in.

Since switching to a two stage vacuum pump and real vacuum chamber, I have been able to choose my desired texture seemingly based on how long I purge under vacuum...

Hope that helps, "215"... Feel free to pm me if you need more in depth or hands on type advice...
Hope that helps

Don't let it dry to long, get a smaller catch pan, you can purge it with everclear, but basically you want to keep some of that moisture that most are trying so hard to get out. Bho with all moisture removed will last a lot longer than the textures you speak of.

If you decarboxylate it, it will lower the viscosity.

If you mean to make it more like wax than amber all you have to do is whip it while off gasing. Although if there is very little this can be difficult as most sticks to the dabber. You can prevent this by using a collection dish with less square inches. Makes the bho turn from honey or amber, to that nice hard chunky wax that is much easier to handle. Hope this helps, not sure though.

Call me a snob but I still prefer glasslike as opposed to gooey. You can always slighlty warm it to makeit more gooey to work with. Yes it stores longer the harder it is...but mine don't last long to worry about storage LOL

WRONG!
Don't whip if there is still butane you will trap the the tane. The correct way to make butter is to purge fully, and then whip air in to it.

^yup. I purge mine in a glass pie pan to get maximum exposure to air with as little movement as possible. then it scraped it into a pile of glass chunks and set it on the top of the pc to warm it into a pool and then i stir it with a glass rod until it literally looks like melted gold bullion. it is like putting treasure on your bowl everyday. something about that gold color is just attractive to humans. it is embedded in our genes.

That's really awesome art, I really encourage you about this creativity.

So, whipping it with tane still in the mix will trap the tane in the final product? Would a real slow mechanical mixer help the tane evap quicker? How about with a little heat?

Just picked up an Okief Xtractor and curious about how much butane you run through the 1” tube that is 12” long?
Also is it better to grind up product to dust form!

do not grind your product at all.

if you can pack about 30 grams in there, you could run a full 300ml tube or so for a fairly complete leaching of the material.

Whats up guys, was talking with my buddy who is an analytical chemist and he was mentioning using a minmum 1 torr vacum in an evacution chamber to get the numbers of purity the best possible, just reaching out to see if anyone has any experience useing a lab grade setup to do this. Peace and puffs yall

No analytical chemists here, but we do some vacuum techniques.

I have already posted some thin film purged Absolute Amber shots, but here is something a little different that we made yesterday to fill some vaporizer pen cartridges with, which is where the other half of the bho in the Petri dish went. Hee, hee,hee........... .

The shots are of raw oleoresin extract taken directly from the Mk I Terpenator, with the waxes still in it, and purged in a Petri dish sitting on a 115F spark-less hotplate in a glass vacuum desiccator at -29.9" hg until bubble free and amber glass like in appearance.

The Mk I ran three ~15 second flood cycles, with ~1 1/2 minute soak cycles in between and purged the material to -29.5" hg for 5 minutes prior to the above final purge. The material was late mid harvest C-99 full plant extraction, sans sticks and fan leaves.

The sun just happened to peek out today and I thought these were nice serendipitous arms length shots.
