A bottom branch of a male shows the buds forming and the main cola is really moving. I have to delay the pollen a bit until the smallest females flower a bit more. So I have come up with a rather drastic solution.
Chop chop chop all the branches are cut off and the fan leaves have been left, kind of a reverse de-foliation. All the flowers have also been removed from the internodes. The only male flowers left are on the cola. That way I can see them and pick them off before they open. Of course these male flowers and leaves are not going to go to waste. I am going to make bhang lassi from them. The male flowers do have tiny amounts of thc in them as well as a lot of nutrients, enzymes, chlorophyll and the lassi is an extraction. The light can get into the females a bit better as well.
The males are then macerated in warm cream and squished and squished mortar and pestle style. I put a bit of kefir with the cream as I set it to warm and it clotted a bit along the bottom. Really work this part in order to break the cell walls. Then drain off the cream and save it and do it again to get every drop of nutrients. Drain off the cream and squeeze the plants with your fingers over and over to squeeze out every drop of liquid and save it.
The next step is to add a bit of alcohol and macerate the plants in it. I figured why not use something with healing herbs like the Ungava Gin. It has 6 healing botanicals that the Inuit use for healing. I didn't put too much gin. Besides it's 45% so it should be good for extracting the juices.
Squish it and squish it and squish it down into the alcohol with the spoon or whatever and then squeeze out all the juice with your fingers. I left the little bits in it when I saved it because they are very tender and delicious.
Then mix it all together after the tea has cooled. The tea, the milk, and the gin and add a bit of cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger, and voila you have a delicious mild lassi. If you want a more sour lassi add more yogurt.
I got about a liter altogether and saved some in a jar to put in the refrigerator. I drank the glassful and got a nice glowy feeling and my pain did ease off a bit so I think there was a bit of thc in it or maybe it was just the gin.
Here is a photo of the largest auto female a few days after being pollinated. It's interesting to see that the center fan leaf has turned totally verticle in order to capture the light from the 5000k spot light. To me it means they do really like these lamps.
Only a few days after getting the pollen the largest auto female has burst into seeds. The calyxes are rapidly increasing in size and they are just covered in crystals.
I really don't mind smoking the plants after they've made seeds as years ago it was the consensus that seeded plants are stronger because they make more thc to protect the seeds and the calyxes are much larger. I don't really know but it's nice to believe that.
The larger of the two females that turned auto on the other hand has the cream coloured hairs like the Burmese Pure and they seem a bit slower to react to the pollen but they are starting to shrivel and turn cream colour.
The fastest of the two auto females have started to really pack on the weight now on day 56. The calyxes are getting huge and are just smothered in crystals.
Sorry La Buena Hierba the best I can do for daylight is to swing the 5000k led spots onto the plants but the reds still show through in the shadows.
It's very interesting that when handling the non auto males I get the Burmese smell and when handling the auto females I get the kush smell. Otherwise these plants are totally odorless.
Even the non-auto females are shooting up and starting to make seeds and the crystals are coming in. The tallest non auto female is about 28 inches now.
The plants got quite a shock but it was probably good for them. When I turned the timer to 12/12 on Dec 25th I forgot that the seedling heat mat was plugged into it. The room is cold and the plants were cold in the dark period. I moved the Muay Thai downstairs to the basement and about a week later I thought to check the soil temperature when the lights went on. It was 56f at the end of the dark period and 68 at the end of the light period. So for quite a long time the soil temps were fluctuating daily, just like they would at the end of the fall season. No wonder these plants are forming seeds so quickly. Now the timer is back on 24/0 the soil is 68f.
The taller of the non-auto females is in the foreground with the two auto female Burmese Pure X Auto Hindu Kush in the background. The non-autos are busy re-vegging and making seeds and the auto females are getting ready to finish soon. Once the seeds are ready on the non-autos I can cut off the top half and get lots of seeds and after re-vegging for a bit turn the lights back to 12/12 and get some nice colas.
The two auto females are really getting to a fair size now and they still have a bit of time left as I see very few calyxes cracking open so far. They're dropping the fan leaves so it won't be long I hope.
Well I was getting a bit worried as I could see that the auto females were finishing and I couldn't see any cracked calyxes and I wanted to see that the seeds were dark before I cut. So I took one of the lower buds and opened it up a bit. The tiny piece on the right gave 6 nice dark seeds and picking out of the cola was very sticky and the smell was the Burmese smell of mild herbal, slightly fruity, not much skunk and tasting the resin left a long lasting coating.
After picking all the seeds out of the tiny bud I got about 30 seeds and then after nuking the leaves I got a nice medium sized joint and found another half dozed fried up seeds that I had missed. I'm going to have tons of seeds. The seeds look very dark and very healthy. Compared to what I get from the seed vendors lately the ones I make are a way better. My auto Hindu Kush seeds all started after about 4 years in the crisper.
The joint, considering what it was, was not too bad. It was harsh of course because of not being properly cured and dried fast, but it seemed very strong. I could feel the first puff right away with what seemed to be a heavy narcotic hit but as I smoked the joint that passed and it came out to be a nice up stone. I even got up and did some laundry. My vision seemed enhanced and sounds seemed crisper. I like it.
