Building a room in an attic... your thoughts

A tent in the attic is going to get wayyyyyy hot/cold depending on were you live.

Because you will need insulation for you tent, in my opinion it will be easier to go ahead and frame it up the way you were talking originally (with 2x4s). If this grow room was in your house I'd say go with the tent-- but it would be a hassle getting one to run in an attic IMO. :2cents:

I agree. Tried the attic myself this summer. Temps were a big issue. Of course, there's good privacy, and a butt load of room, but temps... I ended up relocating. Good luck!

On a more positive note, check out a thread called, Hornet's 250W Insulated Attic Cab (First Grow!)

Hope it helps!

i'm an attic grower. my small trussed roof only allows for a footprint of 7 ft by 12 ft....but triangluar in shape, with a max height of 57" ...then after subtracting my reflector, 5 gl buckets and such, i have only approx 2.5ft of growing height.

i seem to pull it off. i certainly don't have a commercial operation going on, but enough for me and my buddies.

i built it using a combo of drywall and plywood. i have a 10 vortex pulling air out...and 2 vents bringing in cold/hot fresh air. the exterior of the grow room ( which is the interior of the attic space ) is completely covered with R25 insulation.

i feel that my temps are not too bad....pushing mid 80's in the summer tho. i run my flower with lights "on" from 9PM to 9AM to combat additional heat issues.

i do have to either lug buckets of water up a ladder....or i connect a simple garden hose to my master bath shower nozzle ( with shower head removed ). turn on the water, and bam -- fresh running water in my grow room.

as per removal of rez water -- i bought a $20 sump pump that i ran PVC down the trusses to an opening in the soffit....BAM -- even my lawn enjoys the grow/bloom formula for itself too !!!

lastly, as mentioned above --FLOODING -- i do individual DWC with 5 gal buckets.....absolutely NO chance of flooding the grow, or even down below. nothing recirc's.....no pumps move any water -- just singled out bubblers.

this is certainly not the ideal location, but for my case it works. breaks from fuckin back, but it works....also, all noise, equipment and exhaust is out of sight/out of mind. a very secure location. i don't even use a carbon scrubber -- it just gets pushed out from the vortex into my ridgevent and into outter space.

should i be worried about FLIR ??

You only have to really be worried about FLIR if they have already have a warrant. Although you have to run your lights at night to combat the temps, this gives off a greater heat signature than running during the day. Will they see you or will it matter in with your setup? Don't know, I'd be more concerned about getting a carbon scrubber in there. Most people go down on the smell.

Hey jellyfish, did you have any insulation around you grow? How hot does it get during the summer there?

Grow? Who said anything about a grow? Jellyfish was in the attic, just trying to chill out in an 8X8 mylar box, with an ac box, some flouros and some fig newtons. It got up to 107, even 112 without the ac box. I could get it down to high eighties during the hottest part of the day. EDIT: July and August outside temps in this part of the world were mid-80's to mid-90's.

But once the daily temp peaked, it would stay there for, like, five hours, even with ac box running on high. That's hot for a jellyfish. If jellyfish would have had seedlings in there, they would have survived their first two weeks, and then been moved to a cooler part of the universe, and been flowering by now. ;)

1 for the money
2 for the show
3 to get ready
now grow cat grow

How do you attic growers get your intake air?

HEPA Filter in that bucket

my inline creates enough negative pressure, that if my a/c or heat vents are NOT blowing in freshness -- the neg pressure will suck in fresh air on its own. i've held a piece of toilet paper to the vents on ground level, and the paper stays suck to the vent indefinitely. i pull absolutely NO air from the attic space ....

spastic gramps....i have no need for a scrubber....its been 2 yrs and the odor becomes so diluted that only a slight hint of MJ comes from attic into garage ( but only when garage door is closed and temps are 80++..)...and even then, all my puffing around the house smells just as much, so....what came first -- chicken or the egg :)

appreciate the concern tho
