If the problem is fungus gnats, then spraying, NPS etc will not work optimally since those measures do not kill the larvae, which reside in the soil/medium/res. Bt products, such as gnatrol and mosquito dunks work well from what I understand though.

I have herd if you put a thin layer of diatomaceous earth on top of your soil it will kill them when they try to crwal through it.
