Boy Scouts of America

I was wondering how many of ya'll were in Boy Scouts when you were younger. Or Cub Scouts, that counts too. I guess we can include Girl Scouts and Adventure Scouts while we are at it. I was in Boy Scouts, would have made Eagle except I got kicked out (while I was Senior Patrol Leader!!!!!) for supposedly smoking marijuana. 5 of my good friends narced on me, which was not cool.
I had, in my bag of food, two packs of Swisher Sweet Cigarillos that my father had forgotten to grab after we went to the store. He did not go on this camp out unfortunately...They were not mine. Next week, a few of my "friends" told the Scout Master that I had brought pot on the camping trip, the scout master then decided to have a talk with me. No evidence, just my word against 5 others. The previous scout master was an old friend, I had known him since before Cub Scouts, the new one, well...I have known him just as long, but he does not like me that much. Not sure why. So, I get impeached and kicked out. I was a Life.....3 or 4 badges and the Eagle project away. I would hit him with my car if I get the chance...all the narcs too.
Most of the other adults wanted me to stay, but it was Mr. Assholes choice. Jackass. Anyway.....
How many of ya'll were in scouts?? It was some of the best times I have ever had, and I will definitely want to put my kid in (when I make one). I would also prefer to be the scout master of his troop.

Not meaning to start any shit here, but I don't associate with homophobic groups, nor support their existance.....

holy hell
I'm an Eagle Scout and kinda proud of it... I know BSA can at times seem stupid and there are more stereotypes about the BSA than there are scouts.. lol, but Im proud I made it all the way :) not too many people make it all the way

I was for many years, nothing homophobic about local organizations that I saw, its just the higher ups that are that way I think.

a good scoutmaster is SOOO important.. it can make the difference in a great BSA troop, where most guys go all the way, and a horrendous scout troop, where people stay for less than a year and dissappear from the roster, and nobody gives a shit about how much they could potentially learn... luckily, I had a great scoutmaster

Very true, we had a good one and a bad one over the time I was there.

Eagle scout was just about the only thing that made my college application look ok... left high school w/ a 2.0 gpa

Yeah, the first scoutmaster (Mr. Ed) was the balls. He was one of the coolest adult leaders I have ever known. The second scoutmaster, well...I would love to set him on fire. Horrible way to think, but he cost me my Eagle.
Scouts was the shit. We went camping every month, no matter what, and a lot of times twice a month. My troop was pretty small I guess, about 20 kids was the maximum, and probably not even that many.
I am so glad I was in scouts, even though people ragged on me about it. Didn't bother me though, it was a blast. I loved going on the camp outs, and hell, even service hours were cool. Plus, adults thought I was more responsible than non-scouts. They wouldn't even bat an eye when I pulled out a pocket knife, but any other kid? Ooh, trouble.
I never really heard anything about homosexuality when I was in scouts. I never really got any anti-gay vibes or anything. It was actually just about the most level headed organization I have been apart of. I learned a lot of things in scouts, and I am proud to say I was in it.

Hahaha, one time we downed this jerk's tent and zip tied the zippers together with him in it. Plus, poison ivy had "found" its way into his sleeping bag. Haha, he deserved it though. Real asshole. He cried, we laughed. Good times.

Never wore my uniform to school like some people did. That was just asking for trouble, unfortunately.

hey tarkus man, your eagle is your eagle if you know your shit, all that matters.

btw niki, it seems in the venezuelan version of boyscouts, it is rather homosexual than homophobic... a neighbor tells the story how his scout master once 'took it out' and told him 'you suck mine, i suck yours'. "great" way to get to know nature for sure lol

Man, I LOVE backpacking!!! When I was younger I hated it though, but that was because the packs were too big. When you have it tightened as far as it will go, and you can still fit your fist between you and the hip straps...it sucks. 40 lbs on your shoulders only for 5 miles is a bitch. At least for a 14 year old...
I recently (new years) went on a backpacking trip into the Guadalupe Mountains State Park (Texas) and had the best time of my life. We got to our campsite just in time and got snowed in for two days. Was awesome. We drove 14 hours nonstop to get there, and we still saw someone we knew....in fact, he worked at the REI where we bought a lot of our stuff. He checked us out. Small world.

Oh, and we ran over a dead deer too. In a Corolla that was as loaded down as it could get, just about. Didn't fuck up the car, but scared the bejesus out of all of us. It was 3 in the morning and a light rain, so the best thing to do was hit it straight on, which we did. Freshly dead too, left gore all over the bottom. Was pretty cool.
