I know you were using 5ml per gal. What I meant is were you adding the total amount (say 25ml in 5 gals for example) at say 5mls then waiting a few minutes adding another 5ml., so on like that until the whole 25ml was added?

Trust me bro, i'll always keep sm-90 in the mix. I just figured I was doing something wrong when I saw the clouding. Needed to make sure it wasn't a problem, or correct my mixing technique.

So far so good with my sm-90. Ive been doing 5ml per gallon and things are rockin. I did notice a frothiness in the res the first day, but ive never seen whiter roots in my life.

Im a believer.

I run GH, calmag, silica blast and drip clean, no problems thus far.

It's more complicated than that when you remove the pump from the feed system. The pump adds energy and stimulates the molecules and prevents them from precipitating out of solution. I had my clog in the 1/2" tubing at it's point of lowest pressure. The sludge could have been pushed through if the pressure was high enough, and with higher pressure, may not have precipitated out in the first place.

There's a lot that could be going on.. I'm just gonna take it one week at a time, ok? :)

Never a truer word spoken......It all boils down to how shit mixes and reacts to the next shit poured in on it......and.....

Mr D......When I went full on coco dtw from my ebb and flow bucket flip rooms , I used my onsite 325 gal pest control tanks for main rez`x , and my stock tanks for topoff`s and add backs.....but....

I never experienced cloudiness with SM-90 when mixin it at the end with a powerhead keepin shit stirred up and all chem nutes including silicablast having been runnin overnite to fully blend and be ready for intraveinous injections......anyways....

Things to ponder......

Waitin patiently on my bucket......Freds......:ying:......

No sweat buddy, handle things on your own time. Sorry if i've been kind of aggressive/assholeish lately. All work, no play makes D a dull boy :moon:

Think this may be the key. Let the chems mix overnite then add the sm-90 once everything is in solution . Thanks fred will do some testing.

Im not a pro mj grower, but have been involved in the propagation of other crops for a little over 35 yrs.

Here is how I was taught to mix a 450 gallon tank of spray,

Fill tank half way.
Engage agitator and pump, raise rpm .
Open valve briefly with nozzles removed, replace nozzles turn pump off (always leave agitator running).
Add water solubles (normally slurry through screen in a 5 gallon bucket first).
Add Surfactant, and anything needed to adjust ph.
Add petroleum based chemicals ( @ 3/4 tank)
Add spreader activator.
Add anti foam as needed throughout this process.

Put on rain gear and respirator and sweat your damned ass off!

The agitator is always running! The chemicals are either added very slowly, or diluted then added.
I don't know that this is the perfect way, but do know that we get good results!

I would try diluting some of this sht before dumping it in, and add it slowly with some kind of agitation. If you add something and see a cloud forming and slowly dropping to the bottom of the tank, then chances are you will not have the best possible results.

When I mix nutes I have a hose swirling the water in the bucket.
IMO with those big assed rez's you may be having problems because the sht never completely mixes in the reservoir. Try the slurry method, or dilute the stuff in a bucket of ph'd water then add it.
If you don't use agitation now, then try hooking up a swimming pool pump to recirculate while your mixing, then put the pump on a timer so it keeps the goodies suspended.

THAT'S how I prepared a sulfur sprayer when I used to help my friend spray his grape fields in Fresno area....our "agitator" was a direct drive to the tractor PTO.

interesting........

Thanks guys, I been hoping to have a chance to contribute back something.

Hey Mega, First sprayer I ran had its own flat head engine with a crank to start the engine and a hand clutch to engage the drive shaft. Damned thing was about 25' long. The pump was the size of a inline 6, the fan had its own gear box and you would have to run back release the clutch, wait, walk back to the fan, put the fkr in gear, engage clutch and run back to the tractor while wearing the gear in the 80-100 degree weather.

Now everything has electric clutches you can operate with a toggle switch from the cab. get to the end of a row, turn valve off flip switch and make your turn.
Orchard sprayer. Simular to grapes, just have to shoot the mist farther, and grapes wont stab you or grab your rain jacket and drag you off the tractor.

Told ya`ll my boy had skills......now.....

Powerheads ta keep shit stirred up and held in suspension rules the day......

I ALWAYS pre-mixed concentrated warm water "slurries" in my old 6 gal GH 3 part jugs before I added to my 325 gal pest control tank main rez`s , and then added the adjusters till where they needed ta be ppm and ph wise.......but.....

I let that shit sit , mix , and stabilize for a week before openin up the gate valves for the next week`s flip rooms feed cycles....that way....

As the plants ate their juice , ppm`s dropped and ph rose gradually in that circadian rythym ftw without any lockouts or imbalances due to chems and additives gettin wonky and goin sideways before stabilizin into a homogenous juice blend the bitches could swallow and flourish in....

Dialage takes knowin what works for the next time....so on and so forth till it`s just like growin veggies outside.....right Hazed....

Simple....Babyshit...

Peace....Freds....:ying:.....

#1 you think I'm concerned about YOU being aggressive? lol... I can take you old man. :hotbounce

#2 how many mini-vacations have you been on recently? Seriously, you do 1 week of work, take 1 weeks vacation it seems... fuck...

Thanks so much for the info. I'm been thinking about it for a few days now... Currently I'm only using 1 500gh pump, which is pumping water up to the 55 gal drum from the 330g ICB tank. As the drum overfills, it fall back down to the 330gal ICB tank. I'm thinking that's not enough agitation. I think that when I'm mixing nutrients, I should cut off the pump feeding the drum, and have a separate agitation pump as you mentioned. I also think I should make a filter bucket with rocks and sand, so that as water falls from the drum back to the ICB tank, it passes through a filter that will catch any solids.

It sounds like my nutrient mixing should go SM-90, Silica Blast, micro, bloom, drip clean... and then pH...

Which is something to mention... My pH has gone from staying between 5.0-6.2pH all the way down to 4.0pH. Something is making my reservoirs more acidic, which makes me think about the yeast like gurnt mentioned. My RO has a pH of 6.0, and... So with buffers added it normally comes out perfect... I ended up buying a gallon of pH up, added some of that and some bleach to correct the issue.

I made up with my best friend last week... To only receive news hours later that one of my best friends from college died. We haven't even got to our 30's yet. It's not fair. All I have to say is if you're fighting with someone you love over some trivial bullshit, squash it before it's too late. Nothing is worth having your last conversation being a fight. That didn't happen to me, but losing my friend made me more grateful for having made up with the other one. That's all I have to say about the situation.

Because I had to go to a funeral... I didn't change anything at the grow. I went, I checked on everything, everything is great, and that's it. 1 of the blumats in the chem d/straw dd grow wasn't emitting enough solution, but the plant looked ok and I opened it up and everything should be fine. I've found that moving the tubing back and forth without adjusting the knob can get some nute solution moving, so opening the knob isn't always the answer. Hopefully I can eliminate this problem by better mixing my nute solution. I know I've been ragging on these blumats... but when they work they work great... lol... The octagon is chugging along just fine. I took the feed line down to purge it, and I didn't have any brown slime. I also didn't add back a bunch of nutes last week.

The veg plants are coming along, and next week I'll be ready to put more plant in flower... It's better to give them extra veg than rush into flower...

No pics this week. I forgot about the camera.

Bobble - I'm the guy that never stops working. Even when i'm on "vacation", i'm usually working. Aside from mexico I havn't taken a real day off in probably two years. Hell I was still working while in the hospital . Don't forget I run two remote grows, and work a full time job on top of that. Granted my day job can be done from my laptop and phone anywhere in the world, but I still spend 10-14 hours a day doing it. Then another 2-6 hours tending to the grows. So ya all work and no time for play college boy ;).

On another note though, waiting to see how your garden grows . Glad to hear the blumats are finally dialing in for you, it's beautiful thing. And sorry to hear about your friend, I know the feeling of an argument being the last words all too well.

losing friends sucks! i hope it is the last time it happens to you bobble but the odds and laws of averages are not on your side brother

remembering what you lost will help you appreciate what you have. you don't get to keep a fuckin' thing in this life ........ hold on to what you have, and don't let petty bullshit get between you and yours

sorry about your friend! the glass is STILL half full, it's just hard to see it some days:ying::ying::ying:

For my 20g res I use a 350gph pump. When I am mixing my nutes I shut off the feed line, and force it to recirculate. My EC stabilizes within seconds, so upgrading your pumps in my opinion will speed up the mixing process.
From DHF's comment above, I gather he added the SM-90 last after the soup is buffered. I tried this last night after mixing my soup the night before with everything but SM-90. My PH didn't budge after I added the 2mil per gallon...

Well Bobble, Yesterday I bought a jug of Growtek Silica. Mixed nutes and left a little in the bottom of the bucket till this afternoon. I think I might know where you got the slimy consistency from.
I'm going to try following my own mixing directions tonight, lol.

Man I am sorry to hear about your friend!
There was 8 of us, and now there is 5. Loosing the 3 definitely made a tighter 5!
All we can do now is make em proud bro!

ETA:Wow, make that 4 of us left! Another one passed on 08-23-12 Rest Easy Animal!
