Balls to the boat race.
And that the "Dick" as you put it, went to prison for his protest is disgusting.
Bunch of over privileged nitwits faffing about in the river gets covered by the BBC, meanwhile a disgusting piece of retroactive legislation robbing people of money the courts said they were entitled to wasn't mentioned, at all, 2 weeks ago.

did I miss something? link to a thread harry?

I assume you are asking about the retroactive legislation.
Basically it is about the "Poundland" case.
The court told the gov that they had illegally sanctioned peoples benefit because their regulations were fucked up, and that they would have to pay all the back pay and restore benefit to the people who had been sanctioned.
Cue the government, supported by Liebour (in the form of abstention) retroactively changing the law to negate the Judges ruling.
Not mentioned at all on the beeb, or any other news channel, and barely got a mention in Guardian.
This was all a couple of weeks ago now, but it makes me mad that the BBC, funded by the working man, colludes to suppress this, but dedicates airtime to the toffs on the river.

Workfare, less effective than the old system, and much more expensive.... Tory "Savings".

Now we seem to be embracing retroactive law, I suggest some more.
The fiddle 1 penny of parliamentary expenses and go to gaol for 5 years bill.

Why shouldn't he. Disruption is a legitimate form of protest.
The common man didn't get the vote by asking nicely, and women had to smash windows and disrupt business to get it.

I did miss that Harry, and I'm disgusted. So slavery has now been reintroduced into UK law. Things are getting intolerable now.

We can't really call it slavery per se, but it is definitely Corvee.

Nearly everyone missed it, it was never on the news and most of the papers ignored it, you were meant to miss it.

Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with the jobcentre saying "Here's a minimum wage job, your 1st wage is due on xxxxxx, you may as well take it because your benefit will stop then either way", No problem with that, but these work a full time job for dole money schemes are wrong through and through. The companies get 3 grand for each person they "Employ", plus they get a free worker as the government keeps paying the dole money. It is a scam to get around the minimum wage. Plus, all the people on these schemes, are counted as in employment, and so removed from the jobless figures, nice little fiddle for the government and the party donors all around.
I hear people say It's fair to work for your dole money, but that is bollocks. If there is a job to be done, there is a wage to be paid.

I'm now boycotting so many companies, I don't know where I can buy a lot of things now.

well when they say, you work for X and you'll get food money or you dont work for X and you lose your home and cant buy food anymore, that in my mind is saying do it or die. how is that not slavery?

Chattel slaves are property. Workfare serfs (it is serfdom) are still free to sleep under a bridge and eat out of the bins.

It is corvee, the old system where the local lord gets to demand a few days labour a month on his land for free, except now, you get to do it full time. Google Corvee.
The worst part of it all is, workfare doesn't work, it has been shown that you are more likely to get a job through the usual method of going to the jobcentre. This system is actually costing more than the old one, so all the talk of saving money is bullshit. This is basically the Americanisation of our country, where we are now told to think "If you are poor, it is because you are a loser....So fuck you"
Why are we all suddenly calling benefits "welfare"? I must have missed the memo. It is because the word has a negative connotation in this context and the benefit system has been designed by Unum and ATOS, both of whom have been in trouble for running benefit denial systems in the US.
