Blumat auto watering

I have 54 hooked up and I have gone through about 2/3rds of my 30m roll. Your mileage may vary depending on how far you plan on placing the blumats from the feed line. For reference I run my feed line around 3x3 tables, and then run the drip line from there in. So the furthest my drip lines go is probably 22 inches or so. Most are only about a foot long.

Anybody use clear rez in their blumat reservoirs? I notice a little bit of a funky smell if I top off my reservoir instead of doing a full clean out. Any other reccomendations?

Does the water in your rez just sit stagnant? Anything in there moving it around? I presume it's covered, .. ?

I've never had that issue, but my setup cycles the water between two containers - a main rez on the ground, and up to the feed rez on the shelf, back down, back up, recirculating, 'round and 'round and 'round, all the while twirling upward, upward, UP TO VICTORY!

Just found out about blumats. They look amazing. I have a couple questions?

I would be dripping NGH 5 gallon pots. Should i use 2 blumats or one large size one?? What do you think is best?

2) Could I run the 3mm tube line from 1/4 tubing we have in the us that i ussually use for drip systems. Or will I have problems.

3) Any tips to prevent clogging??

Yup its covered, small submersible pump in there running 24/7.

Try adding some food grade hydrogen peroxide perhaps to keep the res clean?

That and an air stone would keep the water much healthier.

I have one blumat in a 5 gallon. You don't need the maxi, just the regular outdoor one.

I have the 3mm line connected to 1/8" tubing using an Agrifim 1/8" barbed connector. The 3mm line is flexible enough to stretch over the bigger connector. My 1/8 inch line in my pressurized setup goes into the black 3/4" line that you can find at most hydroshops. I do have some slow leaks though, as the barbed connections aren't tight enough and the 3/4" line isn't flexible enough to stand up to the pressurized system. It works, but I find myself wishing that I went with the 8mm line and the connectors that come with the blumats instead. In my veg I have 1/8 into the more flexible 1/2" line and I don't have any leaks with that. Also go to Kent Systems. They have every kind of connector you could need.

I think that there is less clogging with a pressurized system like Weed, killer designed. It takes a bit of tech/plumbing though. Keep a dead res, or go organic with everything you need in the soil and plain water.

Really, you should read the whole thread. Lots of questions will be answered. i know theres a lot of chit chat but you can skip over a lot of it and find some great info.

16 blumats per 4x4?
i would assume a runaway dripper would show by its area being constantly saturated? possibly wicking moisture to the rest of the bed? then possibly greatly reducing the need for the next closest blumat in proximity?
im thinkin 4x4 smartpot in a try but no drainage, straight coir

Once you have done preliminary calibrations and it's been running for a couple days you'll be able to spot individual carrots that are calibrated too open by the fact that they will be dripping noticeably faster than the others.

I try to calibrate mine so that most of the medium is pretty moist all the time, so I might not be able to tell just by looking at the surface.

My top soil always seems to look like pretty bone dry but I move some coco and its moist just a few CM beneath... Plants don't show any stress think they are all set? Or should I set it so the all the coco looks saturated all the time.

My goal has always been to run them as open as possible without major runoff. I am ok with very minimal runoff. As long as I don't walk downstairs and find gallons of wasted nutes in my waste container I'm happy.

I will be doing this same setup on my next run, 16 Blumats per 4x4 smart pot, 100% coco. I am trying to decide whether to use the slave drippers or not.

Don't sweat the 'look' of your coco. It will actually appear to be dry a bit, but there is usually plenty of moisture hidden below the surface.

In straight atami coco I dial to cling + 1 arrow and it seems to work pretty good (setup immediately after heavy drench to run-off not the next day as many here do). I might open a hair here and there if things seem a little light as we progress into bloom, but try not to fuss with them outside of their initial setup really.

As AK suggested.. you can experiment with opening them a hair to maintain a slightly heavier pot just short of run-off. Be careful however because adjustments are sensitive. The difference between a run-away and a good set can be very minimal between the two.

That's a good thought - in re: the runaway one actually kind of causing the others to chill, ..

I like the bed concept, but not familiar enough with coco. Just be sure to keep the rez good'n stirred up & constantly agitated, so your feed mix doesn't settle or muck up the lines.

I was thinking the same thing, in re: Bud-Boy's post. I think the benefit you'd get out of individual sensors (vs. the slaves) is that, like BB mentioned, in the event of a runaway, the others would in turn be told to slow down, ..

Im running 6 plants and 6 drippers, would putting a tee in the middle of the feed line and a hose that goes above a couple feet up be a good idea for a air vent.

Hempy and blumat theory is that because i run 100% organic and already use hempy buckets i can just add the dripper and off we go. Any drips or overrun will be mopped up in the hempy res and i can enjoy watching my plants grow.
