Continued - Monday 18/04/05

So after gawking at all of that lovely glass I sat down to wait in the hopes that the people I still hadn't met would arrive. I knew Rez was going to be there before I got there, we had been exchanging pms and he let me in on the fact he was going. I also found out Smokey Puffmaster was there, had no idea he as going to show up.

In the meantime BOG pulls me over and hands me a bud....says, "take a look, that's Sour Bubble". I broke the bud and got the most incredible whiff of limeyness....wonderful lime fresh pucker 'em up smell, and the nug was rock hard, covered with trichs. BOG's creation may not have won first place, but there is no doubt at all that Sour Bubble is every bit as good as anything I had the pleasure of smoking while I was there, ECSD, Amnesia Haze and everything else included!

After a couple opf tokes of Sour Bubble I had to sit down again  :biglaugh: I was just sitting there talking to some people in the shop and this guy strolls up and says "Hi...I'm Jimmynitz". Well that was it...I knew the serious partytime was about to begin. Jimmy sets himself on down and the first thing I asked him was to take a look at the ECSD. While he's pulling it out of his pocket I hear "You must be Bluevelvet"...I look up and I just knew it was him, said "hey....you must be the Rezdog" and folks...so it was :D. Rez sat himself down and pulled his promise out of his pocket. What promise you might ask? The promise to enlighten me and pull me out of second rate stonerdom elevating me to the heights of first class stoner with four letters.... ECSD.

After hearing so much about this strain I was very curious to find out for myself what all the hype was about. I examined it closely, sniffed, and when Rez passed the joint my way and I took my first hit I understood. This is connoiseur herb, very obviously a cut above the rest, you don't need to be an old school stoner to realize its special, but you do need to be one to really understand just how special it really is. I knew as soon as I smoked it that it would do well at the Cup, and I think Rez has alot to be proud of. The ECSD did excellently and though it didn't win in the breeder's category, it was every bit as good as the winning Amnesia Haze by Soma....just very different. In the end it came down to personal taste.

My own very personal remark about the ECSD, and what suprised me the most upon tasting it is the immediate sour edge as soon as you take a toke ....tastes exactly like Sicilian sour oranges. Gotta get some of those for Rez to taste so he'll know what I'm talking about

While all this ECSd oooooohing and ahhhhhhhhing is going on in rolls Smokey! Smokey showed up with his wife and daughter, two very very lovely ladies with whom I spent some time while I was there, and for whom I shed my stoner dimension to go out and have a ball doing serious woemn's stuff...namely shopping :D. I was real pleased to meet Smokey, first thing he did was make me turn all red by showering me with the nicest compliments and second thing he did was give me a taste of his own ECSD ....man oh man, we had ECSD up, down, beneath, beyond, and across Amsterdam, couldn't get enough of the stuff!

This isn't ECSD, and it wasn't even in Amsterdam...but its time for a pic and I guess I'll show y'all what I left at home with the babysitter, threatening castration with a bread knife if he so much as breathed on my plants:

1562Garden11.jpg

Those are two of the four plants in my grow now...sativa Mangos and they're over 6ft tall

So while we're getting down to some serious ECSD partying, I see these two guys walk up, one of whom asks if I'm Bluevelvet. Turns out to be hashstar. I didn't really know hashstar very well, he's new to these boards, but you can say we'd already formally introduced each other. I had stumbled across a thread by hashstar saying he was coming to the Dam with a friend who was travelling on a serious budget. About the same time I ran across that thread, I found out Farmer John, for whom I'd advanced the purchase of a Guest Pass, wasn't going to be able to make it (missed ya alot FJ ). So I had a situation of two paid for Guest Passes and FJ who was feeling bad about not being able to come at the last minute, and I wanted to solve it as painlessly as possible for everyone involved. To make a long story short, I simply gave the Guest Pass to hashstar's friend Pachuko. And Pachuko was at the Dam with hashstar....and everytime I looked at Pachuko he was one happy smiling dude, so I felt really happy about having given him that pass, especially because hashstar and him seemed like really nice people. Hashstar was so generous as to scoop out for me some high quality Super Silver Haze buds he had grown himself, and that was my special weed to put on the table when we all got together for a smoke :D.

After some very heavy partying it was time for some munchies! BOG, Rez, Jimmy, Smokey and family, some other people and myself headed off to a Tibetan restaurant which Rez knew and proceeded to majorly chow down! It was really nice to just sit back and talk over a good meal. The weather was still nasty, lots of rain and wind, and we didn't really want to do too much wandering around outside.

1562A_Dam3.jpg

After dinner we headed for De Dampkring nearby. My first coffeshop! :D I really enjoyed it, nice place, nice atmosphere, and they serve alcholics, which isn't a must, but I do enjoy a glass of good red wine when I smoke. My very first (and what would turn out to be my only) purchase in a coffeshop was a gram of Mother's Finest and a gram of Afghani Pollen at De Dampkring.

The evening was really nice, very laid back which I needed after the experience of meeting so many people in so little time, it can be quite overwhelming. I got to know my ICMag friends a bit more personally. It was quite a gift actually, I don't think people like Rez and BOG are so forthcoming about themselves with just anybody and I thank them both for having let me get a little bit closer. The evening was spent with laughter and friendship and incredible weed and though I wish ti could have never ended, I'd been up since 6am and was ready to get some rest and prepare myself for Tuesday. BOG took me back to my hotel, I fired myself up a good night smoke of Afghani Pollen and floated off to dreamland.

Hope y'all enjoyed Monday...Tuesday is when things really start rocking!
Same bat time, same bat channel......

Blue Velvet-I'm SO glad you had a good time and hit it off with Rez, I wouldn't have thought it. Looks like you got more than you expected, :abduct: and was a big part of the cup. I'm gonna try to go next year. I would love to meet you, even if you don't like my art.  I DO have other types of art and make a living at it, but I can't show it here. Welcome home.
peace,
Gamera

Hi Gamera...Rez and I have been exchanging the occasional pm over the past few months and I think we discovered pretty early on that we have similar personalities. Neither of us are very easy people, and not everybody appreciates the approach we respectively have when laying down what we think, but we do it anyway. I had a very strong suspicion we'd get along very well. I was right. :D

As an artist, you know art is entirely subjective so I felt free to express my own very personal opinion. And you as an intelligent person respected that opinion because in fact, you are an artist. The fact that I don't particularly enjoy the art you have posted here doesn't mean in the least that it would'nt be a pleasure to meet you, on the contrary, I love to confront myself with people who have different opnions, tastes, ideas than my own. Makes you richer...ya know? Thanks for the welcome home, hope to be seeing you at the next Cup!

Woke up to a downpour....I was feeling remarkably ready for the day. I'm not a heavy smoker and over the years living in Europe have picked up the habit of mixing tobacco with my weed/hash. At the Cup I spent three solid days smoking an enormous number of joints made with pure weed out of respect for my fellow non-tobacco smoking IC'ers. I doubt anybody can really get a grip on what a jolt that can be for somebody who doesn't do heavy partying every day all day long.

It should have knocked me flat on my ass the first day, but it didn't, and I'm proud to say I can STILL party with the best of 'em :D

1562A_Dam2.jpg

Strong of my unexpected resistance to deadly amounts of THC, I had breakfast, picked up the umbrella, and headed down the street to the shop for wake 'n bake and to meet the rest of those people I hadn't seen yet the day before. As soon as I stepped into Seed Boutique I heard Dutch say "Blue, I need to talk to you a minute". Ok, I was up for whatever she had to say....little did I know .

"Blue, we've upgraded you to Expert Judge"

All of that stoner confidence from the morning went *****poooooofffffff ***** when Dutch handed me over scorecard, Expert Judges Pass and a family size ziplock bag containing 30 samples of the best weed on the planet and 3 samples of evil looking hash, each of which looked abundant enough to put a serious dent into anybody's reality.

15625Pass.jpg

I put a smile on my face 'cause when the goin' gets tough..... :biglaugh: and kept repeating over and over in my mind.........its a tough job but somebody's gotta do it......its a tough job but somebody's gotta do it......you been smoking almost 30 years, you can DO it,you CAN do it, you can DO it, you CAN do it !ROTFLMAO!

So there was nothing left for me to do but DO it, and do it I did folks. I started immediately, found a spot where I could concentrate some, sat myself down and proceeded to wake 'n bake on my own....until the peeps started rolling in. That's when I decided to leave the judging for another moment, I still had quite a few people to meet. That morning I met HOG who was on my list of closer IC friends (congrats HOG, once again ), TrueCannabliss, Hazyfontazy came strolling in with his wife, Jubei came on in with some friends, Bodhi was there with a friend...and my memory is beginning to fail me...there were SO many people to meet and remember...if I forgot somebody please forgive me, I have the sneaky feeling I'm forgetting to mention some people...help me out if you're not listed and should be

Anyway, Wake 'n Bake was getting pretty lively as people started jamming into Seed Boutique, my friends from the day before plus all of the new people I'd met....talk about a party and it wasn't even 11am yet!

15621Wake_nBake.jpg

That's the Wake 'n Bake bong....please notice in the background that awesome postcard with the trich shot, that was included in all of the Pass goodie bags, along with an ICMag 420 Cup lighter, a very very nice glass spoon complete with glass screen, a pack of filter papers, various packs of rolling paper, along with maps, flyers and assorted neat stuff!

To be continued.....

xxbluevelvetxx - this thread is a superb read, I've been checking back since your first post, I missed the cup, but visit adam as often as I can, and your excellent reportage style and photography really convey the feel of that great city and the unique atmosphere that you must have experienced at the cup - can't wait for the next update.

this thread just keep on getting better and better.

Blue did Uncle show you all his marbles on his dread and that. Man does that guy like glass, he had such a beautiful piece blown for him by Marbleslinger when he was in Vansterdam, it would be intersting to see what he picked up there. Sorry for getting off topic, but I will see you there next year for sure.

I know this is an anonymous forum, with good reason, but I gotta say, for myself anyway, that I love posts by bluevelvet and DutchGrown. You can get a glimpse of your true personality and nature just by the way y'all post. There is a certain...I donno how to say it or put it into words I guess, but I guess flavor is the best way to put it, that is lacking in we sad males species. I would love to meet you and DutchGrown someday, but I'm almost scared to. I greatly suspect y'all are the type that would make a man want to leap tall buildings in a single bound, climb the highest mountains, or rush the gates of hades with nought but a bucket of water.

Lest this sound too weird suffice it to say I look forward to fresh posts by yas everyday. Good REAL people are hard to find in this sad world........

Guess what I'm trying to say is I feel I almost know you just by the way you post, some of your personality shows thru I think.

Lots of wakin' and bakin' going on....Seed Boutique was jam packed and I heard Gypsy say to Dutch "maybe its time to get a bigger place, luv". I thought that was funny because Gypsy's shop is by no means small, its a large open space with not one but two couches....Gypsy's circle of friends just keeps getting bigger, not hard to figure out why once you've tasted their hospitality

We were all pretty psyched because around 2:30 pm the trip to Haarlem for the 420 smokeout with Nol at Willie Wortel's was scheduled. After hanging a while at Gypsy's I decided it was time to take my judging seriously. I had only three strains scored and 30 more to go  and I was mildly freaking out at the thought. Headed on back to the hotel by myself, without lunch, but with my good intentions firmly in mind and my family size baggie of pot safely stashed away.

I arrived at the hotel, sat myself down, set up spoon, bag of samples, lighter and a glass of water. I set some pretty high standards for the growers' entries and very high standards for the breeders' entries. If it was good, it was good and showed as good on my scorecard, if it didn't slice it, it just didn't and I was not inclined to let things slide for such a high level competition. I went through about 12 strains in two and a half hours, taking a few short breaks in between to chew on a cookie or a piece of chocolate in order not to get so wasted that I couldn't properly judge.

Finally it was time to go meet people for the Haarlem trip. It was pouring down rain, steadily and with no signs of stopping. Unfortunately I'd forgotten my umbrella at the hotel  Made my way over to Seed Boutique where I met BOG and we ran into some people who said we were all to meet at Fat City...so off towards Fat City we headed, but along the way we ran into Dutch, who instead told us we were all meeting at the station for the trip...and Gypsy was already there with a group of people. So we put oruselves into high gear and found everybody at the station. There were 44 people in all! An enormous crowd of assorted stoners under the rain...we must've been a pretty curious-looking group . There were so many of us we filled up an entire wagon of the train.

15626Haarlem.jpg

So off we went...when we got to Haarlem we went straight to Willie Wortel's to meet Nol, but there were too many of us, so Nol accompanied us to Willie Wortel's Sensimilla under the downpour. When we arrived there we were greeted and taken upstairs to a beautiful large area with a bar. There's even a stoner candy machine:

15627Wortels3.jpg

Weed on the left, hash on the right

We were led to one of several large rond tables with an enormous hookah sitting in the center, around which are positioned some beautiful moroccan leather poufs. Rez, Smokey and Jimmy got the Deisel rockin' around the table, Hashstar showered Super Silver Haze on all of us, Nol through about 5 grams of what looked like excellent Moroccan hash on the table and the party began! Everybody just started rolling, lighting up, passing, smoking, you could hardly breathe between tokes those joints were passing back and forth so fast.

Nol broke out his latest toy, a crazy bong for 4 people to hit on at once

15627Wortels1.jpg
15627Wortels2.jpg

That entire afternoon was a blast. Big thanks to Nol for the wonderful hospitality, he made real sure we were all happily stoned and had everything we needed. While we were leaving each and every one of us was gifted with this real nice ashtray produced by Willie Wortel's Workshop:

15628Wortels4.jpg

So once again, out into the pouring rain without an umbrella....and back to the station, I was so stoned by then that it could have been hailing moo cows and it wouldn't have phased me in the least! :biglaugh:

I think Fredster was even more stoned because at the train station he climbed up into an alcove above the Police Station and started harangueing all of the people waiting for their trains. Seems he didn't see the huge sign just under the arch he's standing above which reads "POLITIE" (edited out of the pic). :biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh:

15628Fredster.jpg

When we got back to Amsterdam we all disbanded to go back to our hotels and dry off some. The appointment was for Fat City in a couple of hours. I made my way back to my hotel and was real happy to peel off my wet coat, dry my hair, get comfy, and get more familiar with my Judges pack after the benefit of a nice shower to clear my head.

To be continued.....

Nothing to do with the thread but dammit, y'all need to see my Mango buds about done :D

Hey Blue. Guess I'll chime in with my own great read blahblahblah, but it is.I wish I could have gone too. I have to say that I don't envy your being a expert judge though, must have been hard on the lungs. How are you breathing these days after all that smoking? :biglaugh:
