Blue residue on nail after dab

Great info there Gray Wolf, thanks man. Always heard it was polish but what you say makes far more sense.

I would maybe try heating it up bright red and letting it sit for a moment, then submerging it with pliers in a bowl of water and heating it again until you see no colors. I did that with a Ti tool I was using and it worked pretty well at getting rid of all the colors.
Not sure if its best for the Ti to sit directly in open air though since you want it to oxidize.

Nice man, I just did a dab as per Gray Wolf's description and it was realllly nice man. It was actually smoother, I guess the sooty stuff that got built up the on cup of nail was actually making it harsher.

Just got my nail bright bright orange for the first time in a long time, it cooked all residue off, and about 30 seconds later cooled enough to take a dab. Good stuff, Thanks again Gray Wolf

GW how long do you keep the nail head orange hot when superheating it. I just tried getting mine as hot as I could three times in a row.

About to try a dab, hoping theres no gold or blue residue where the dab vaporizes.

Depends on how dirty, but usually maybe 20 seconds at bright orange.

When seasoning, I just keep heating it to bright orange and letting it cool, until it is uniformly gray. Maybe half a dozen times.

So this is what it looked like after I tried heating the nail 3 times, then taking a dab after.

I was disappointed lol. I am gunna try heating it red hot 6 times now like you suggested and see if the nail fairs any better after the next dab.

The blue appears to be Titanium dioxide, which would only be possible if your nail is not yet seasoned. How did you season it?

I season my new nails by repeatedly heating them to bright orange red and letting them cool in the atmosphere so as to form an inert alpha case of Titanium Dioxide and Titanium Nitrites on the surface.

When I use my nail, I heat it to a bright orange red often, to reduce any organics to CO2, and then let it cool down to sub red before using. In between super heating, I heat to red and let it lose all color before dabbing. If you experiment starting with delays from the red loss point, it is easy to find your sweet spot.

I know the blue your talking about when you start to season a new nail but I don't believe this to be the case. I have a seasoned nail that's several years old and I have noticed the blue in the dish as well. You can scrape the blue off the nail as if its the waxes that create that blue color. By the way I use an enail at about 600-700 degrees and I see this.

I am starting to think its not the nail at all either. I'm thinking it might be waxes or fats aswell.

I have had this nail for a few months and it only started doing this since I started smoking a 2nd time blast batch.

Maybe the second run plus out more waxes? I just finished the heating the nail atleast 8 times in a row, if I get a blue splotch again i'm gunna assume its the sap.

Alright so I just took a dab and tons of blue and bit of gold, so at this point I'm almost 100% sure the nails fine and its gotta be the oil.

I already tried giving it a second go at purging in the vac, so I'm really not sure what to do.

Should I keep smoking it? It gets me pretty high and tastes fine?

It's probably that man, but I'm no expert. It would make sense though since your nail is almost certainly fully seasoned.
Also, what kind of butane are you using? I've heard some of the cheaper ones can have excessive heavy metals in them, and hopefully that's not whats causing it. The cheap ones also seem to have a bunch of like oil or resiude that "helps the torch burn."
It may help the torch, but is so no beuno stuff to dab with imo. I'm wondering if that stuff could be the culprit as well.

You could even buy another nail and see if it occurs on that one after seasoning. I feel like the Ti nails have gotten much cheaper, even in just the last year. I bought mine for like $35 and seeing ones just like it for like $10-15 on ebay.

Or if you have any other concentrate you could take a dab with I'd try that and see if it still happens. This actually makes more sense, lol. No need for a new nail lol.

Fuck well now that just totally confused me too, because I just recently switched from using colibri in my torch to a new kind called hitman 5x.

Its never been tested by skyhighler and I regret buying it because although the headshop owner insisted on it, nowhere on the can does it say near zero impurities or anything like that.

Oh, not the butane in the torch, my bad. I meant the butane your using to blast with. I dont really think the torched butane could leave that kinda residue, but who knows.

I just know if you do a "plate test" with most cans of butane you see a lot of residue on the plate afterward, which is why I dont blast much anymore and stick to Bubble. Not sure where I could find pure butane or something close to it without the additives or heavy metals.

Is that titanium sponge in your bowl or an optical delusion?

Titanium sponge lol? No must be an illusion from the soot or something.

I managed to get get some more of the good oil I was smoking on the nail originally, and tried a dab on it. Just a small amount of black soot but no colors, so its got to be something in the oil..hmm.

Maybe I will try vacuuming it again at like 125-130F instead of 110-115.

Hitman butane is hiding behind an illusory curtain of purity. I'd test it if I could buy just a can or two, but I already have way too much left over crappy butane I don't know what to do with...

"Hitman Butane 5X

FOR ANYONE USING CANNED BUTANE AS A SOLVENT PLEASE
READ:

Hitman Butane is the first butanol company to sell canned butane without mystery oil in it. It is the
same company that makes Vector butane. For those who don't know what mystery oil is, it is a
lubricant put into the cans to keep your lighters wick lubricated...if your using Power, Vector, Colibri,
Newport, etc. as a solvent to extract you are also getting lubricant in your end product!

MORE INFO ON MYSTERY OIL :

That was from this ebay offering, http://www.ebay.com/itm/12-Cans-Hit...613?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item417e70df25

The above claim is in error, you can bet your life Hitman contains at least a little gunk, somebody get me a can and I'll tell you how much.

So far i've only used to fill my torch and haven't extracted with it as I was worried.

I planned on trying to take back 11 of 12 cans today and get them exchanged for Colibri, do you think that's a good idea?

Known versus unknown is usually the best bet...

I'll keep checking for individual cans of Hitman for sale.

It's gotta be something in the oil your dabbing with I think. I work at a hot dog stand (i know...) and theres a plate thing I use to kinda smash the hot dogs and sear them. I turned it over today to clean the crap off and saw a shit ton of blue colors. Gotta be fats or somethin, especially since it was ur 2nd run.

Thats what i'm thinking as well, does anyone know if the fats pose any risks? or just a purity thing, I mean if they're are in the bud you normally smoke can't be a big deal right?

There should be zero scale after dabbing, if the nail was baked clean before the dab.

Is that colored scale tightly adhering like it looks?

Colors that vivid are usually metalic oxides and nitrides.

That suggests two possibilities. If the scale is coming from the nail, the nail isn't CP Titanium.

If it is coming from what you're dabbing, I suggest having it analyzed for metals.

My nail isn't name brand like HE or anything so I can't be sure, but it was best (most expensive) one they had at the headshop.

Also the nail still works perfectly fine and normal when I dab my first run stuff on it. It only happens from the 2nd run stuff.

So how could have metals have gotten into the oil from an identical process just from 2nd blast?
