Blue Dream(S) diary - the hunt for the ultimate BD

Blue Dream is one of my top 3 favorites.

Feel free to post any comments/pics Blue Dream related.

My end goal is to make my own version but first I am going to try a few different genetics to give me a baseline.
I am looking for a strong blueberry flavor with a hybrid, “Sativa” leaning feel. Most of the BD I have tried has mediocre blueberry flavor. I also want it to be more daytime feel with an energy lift and euphoria feeling.

First I am going to see what I can find that’s already out there.
The 2 plants on the left are Santa Cruz Goat Farm SC Blue Dream seed.

The 2 plants on the right are my accidental cross of Blue Dream (Blimburn) x Blueberry (Dutch Passion). I had a late flower blueberry herm from heat stress (guessing heat stress of course) and seeded a Blimburn Blue Dream in the same tent. Will I get hermie plants from these seeds? Maybe. We’ll see.

I will be starting a few different ones in a month when I return from a vacation trip.

The 4 in the top pic have all been topped, had some LST and some fan leaves taken to encourage the lowers to stretch out. These veg’d for 3-4 weeks and have 1 or so week flower time.

The difference between the 2 pairs is significant which would be expected with the Blueberry cross.

The bottom pictured plant is still vegging after a later start than the others. That one is DNA Genetics Blue Dream that will move to the flower tent in another week. Its appearance looks mostly hybrid, bushy with lots of branches.

At 5 weeks, none of these have been fed yet and probably wont be until I see some signs they are hungry. I have given them Recharge a couple times and will weekly until they are nearly done. The soil mix is HP Promix, a local brand potting soil, pearlite, composted cow manure and Buildasoil Craft Blend.

The white powder on top of the soil is diatomaceous earth mixed into the top layer. I do this for bugs and it provides some silica. I use wicking pots for watering. I saw an improvement in yield when I started using these mostly because I am bad at watering consistently otherwise.

All 5 plants got some LST, lost a few fan leaves and had all the sucker interior sprouts removed to open them up. I’m certain I lose some yield doing this but I get less LARF this way.

No food yet. They do get a weekly shot of Recharge, molasses and Kelp.

Santa Cruz Goat Farm Blue Dream 1 week flower. These all had LST a few days ago that all needed to be re-tied.

Below is blueberry x blue dream crosses that are showing preflower after just a week of 12/12. The one on the left is overwatered so I removed one wicking rope from the pot to let it dry out a little. Some plants love wicking pots, these girls don’t love them. The fix is using one rope instead of two in the wicking pot.

Below the DNA Genetics Blue Dream at 3 week s veg. It was an 8” mass of larger fan leaves. I removed several and gave it some bondage. It looks like it lost a bar fight but it will be fine tomorrow. I missed taking a before pic. It could be just the pheno but it doesnt look a lot like what I think Blue Dream looks like.

Everybody’s Blue Dream seems different which is good and bad I suppose.

Below is after LST and light trim. The little pot in the center is catnip. I have 2 cats and thought they should get some herb also.
Do you grow anything else besides weed in your tent?

10 days and 14 days in flower so 6-7 weeks from sprout. No food yet. Just Recharge, kelp and molasses for the soil Biome. I’m sure I would see more growth by feeding now but I am determined to try adding as little as I can for this grow to see how it affects the terps.

i should say no additional food — yet. When I fill the pots with soil I use Gia Green mixed in the bottom 1/3-1/2 of the pot.The plants get a good start and then they tap into the Gia in the bottom of the pot.

These have a nice stretch going. I like the plant morphology.

10- days or so flower. Big difference in morphology in these (below) but expected with the blueberry cross. Lots of bud sites. Twice as many as the SCBD. New hybrid vigor with lots of leaves and inner branch sprouts which have been pruned out. The lowers are stretching out with the LST.

Below, at 3.5 weeks veg, the DNA genetics BD is slow to get taller. It just wants to make leaves. I reduced lighting from 500ppfd to around 300 ppfd to encourage some stretch. It also got another round of LST. It could be just this pheno and with only one it is hard to make an accurate judgement….but this looks remarkably different than the SC GOAT Farm BD. When it gets 14-16” tall, I’ll move it to the flower tent with the others. These all sit on a lazy Susan so they get a 180 spin every day.

They all had a light trim and a new round of LST from where they had outgrown the last LST. This will probably be the last LST adjustment they get and then only the occasional leaf removed going forward. The pipe cleaner tie downs will start to loosen in a week and I’ll undo them all in a few weeks as the shape will be where I want. They have 8 weeks to go so plenty of time to recover and thrive.

I don’t like tall plants as I take them out of the tent weekly to check and tall plants suck to move. I prefer 2-3’ tall and wide as they are easier to move around and work on. I am absolutely lowering my yield doing this but I grow 3x more than I can use so this works for me. I get a lot better buds overall and less larf.

The small pot is catnip. I picked a couple leaves and gave them to the cats. They went mental. Good times.
