No offense but firstly, how the fuck can you be so absolutely positive that bitcoin is a sure thing investment? Do you really think the feds are gonna allow this to continue if even 5% of people keep a chunk of their money hidden in crypto that is shitloads of tax dollars lost

I'm sorry but I hate you "hodlers" that make it sound like there is zero risk. All it will take is a big exchange like coinbase to pull a Mt GOX for the price to plummet.

Bitcoin changed my life too. I made a lot more trading them than I did off the 200 I sold. Probably more than you if your just getting your first apartment yet you claim to have bought in at 90 bucks (or did you mean literally a whole building?). You'd be sitting on a fucking yaught if you were as smart as you make yourself sound I only have 1k invested on bitcoin as honestly, wtf is it good for? If you say increasing in value than bitcoin is more like a stock than a currency

Congrats on your success but no need to make me and others that sold earlier feel stupider than we do.

Everyone just wants to get rich quick and they think bitcoin is the answer. It was to many, but it can plummet AND PLUMMET FAST, FASTER THAN ITS GOING UP, AT ANY TIME! And if and when that happens, remember my post

Yeah I said an apartment building, not one apartment lol. My initial investment was under 1k. But I will say i'm not aiming at you dude, youre getting a little triggered, I'm talking to those who still say it's a scam, knowing nothing about it. not those who know it's a legit investment and made a bunch of money off it but could have made a bit more. But come on if youve been around as ling as you claim you already know hodlers are older than $10+ coins. You're smarter than the people who are still like "it's a scam, just wait, it's tulips" and there's a shit load of those people. As far as will the feds let people keep money in btc? They can't stop them, period.

After all these years I have just figured BTC out, and got myself a virtual wallet...

There is nothing in it....yet.

But someone owes me a few quid, so I might get lucky to see something in there soonish...lol

Get her figured out & add the option for sb/sb purchases. You might gain some 'market share' back. It's an excellent alternative to CC & I think Old Pink is already on board.

madness i say, the madness of crowds is unpredictable
still, i guess bitcoins are no crazier than using paper with pictures
new currencies come and go, but gold abides

I own some bitGold, actually. Digital tokens which are, unlike the USD, backed by a real ounce of gold each. :dance013:

Check out BitShares, if you're looking for a slower exchange with long term investment goals. It's decentralized, meaning no one entity runs it. It's trustless, meaning it doesn't depend on people to move your assets. It's also fast, free and supports nearly every heavily traded coin on the market.

It's also the only place you can find BTWTY. A token backed by an index fund, which is currently trading at $258,830. I picked some up at $187,800 something a couple weeks ago. ;)

Mind you, all my investments are chump change. lol Chump change can make you rich though, with the right picks.

Open an account with cryptopia.com, I believe they're one of the last remaining exchanges which do not require identification verification. Research the cheapest coins, looking for ones with great development teams, great marketing teams, a great roadmap and what looks like a good future. Pick up a couple hundred to a couple thousand coins, for less than one USD.

Going to be better than penny stocks. You watch. :) Only takes one 5,000 coin investment to hit $1 each, and it pays for quite a few $1 investments which fail. ;) Bitcoin was 10,000 to the USD when it was first put up for sale. $1, 10,000 coins @ $8,100USD each? That's now an $81M USD loss, for every dollar we didn't invest in Bitcoin.

Ouch!

There are other coins, which are not resource wasteful, which have purpose and have potentially stellar futures. Will you own a couple of them? What price will you pay? ;)

The great thing about trading/investing is there is always someone greedier than you.

So as prices plummet. Which they will and always do. A bunch of dumbasses will buy in thinking it will go up again.

I would like to thank those dumbasses in advance for bailing us out of the upcoming mess.

I put my money into the Marijuana Industry. Good 10 year ride I think.

Here's hoping it's longer than 10 years. Some of the companies starting up, the last few years and the next few, will become household names. :tiphat:

Interestingly enough, some of these companies will be started with crypto profits. lol Anyone own any SMOKE tokens or pot/hemp/weed/whatever coins? :)

The closest I got to Bitcoin was buying a graphics card that could do the Bitcoin mining.

But setting it up - for me, not so easy.

I know a coin dealer that responded to a drop off in retail demand for gold and silver, by going into the Bitcoin marketing business.

I think Bitcoin itself is part "Technology as Religion".

I guess it's inevitable to then debate "pros and cons of Bitcoin".

I think what's happening in Saudi Arabia - the government seizing the assets of about 1/3 of the Saudi pseudo-princes - is a good argument FOR Bitcoin. If the pseudo-princes had their money in Bitcoin, it would be a lot harder for the government to seize their assets (until they figure out a way to seize Bitcoin assets.)

I think if the Bitcoin community is serious about their monetary product, they need to address the possible serious weakness of Bitcoin - what happens in an EMP event, for example (or if there was a large hack a la Equifax).

I know one of the answers is, the blockchain is distributed across the world. So it never disappears.

Whether it's a solar flare, or an EMP event, or a hack, how it goes with technology is, it's not a problem ... until something happens, and then it's a problem.

So what the Bitcoin community should do is to SIMULATE a catastrophic event (for computers & computer networks). This would probably have to be done several times, to get it right.

One work-around is a hardcopy (like a bank cheque). Of course, then it would have the same problem as ordinary bank checks - counterfeiting.

I read an article about Chinese bitcoin mining factories. The power cost was LOW - like .04 cents per kilowatt hour. It seems like, now that all the easily mined Bitcoins have been mined/ decrypted, mining additional Bitcoins takes more and more electricity.

If we could only figure out how to use that electricity to grow Cannabis AND mine bit-coins :woohoo:

Use the heat generated by the miners as temp control measures in a tundra based greenhouse grow.
All the weed ya need & some crypto, to pay for expenses, neatly packaged up in one place.

Nice dream.

Bitcoin has plummeted many times yet always returns to a higher value.

Buying at the bottom is a smart move. Your not supposed to buy in at the top...

Thing is with bitcoin, doesn't seem like there is a top.

I really believe it will eventually drop to nothing as nothing this good lasts forever but I also think I might just be telling myself that because I'm so upset I sold all mine when I could be a multi millionaire right now.

Thing is, even if I sold at 5k each, I'd probably still be kicking myself now for not holding out till 10k each lol.

Gotta learn to be happy with what I have

Bitcoin is currently using the electricity of a small country to continue operating. Eventually they will either change the code so this is drastically reduced, or some other coin which does is going to take over.

Until then, btc could easily hit $100,000 in the next 4-5 years. It's increasingly being used to transfer larger and larger amounts of wealth.

Edit: Keep in mind there are an increasing number of coins being created which have nothing to do with Bitcoin. When bitcoin fails it isn't going to take these other coins with it. I'm talking about coins which are being offered like stocks for companies, coins which are payment tokens for systems which are regularly used by other systems, collector coins, tokens for investment portfolios, coins for research purposes, tokens which track commodities and more. The list is growing. ;)

It's still the wild, wild, world of crypto out there and it's anybody's guess where it will all end up. :)

Anyone else in my shoes and sold their bitcoins way too early?

Maybe we should talk about knowing when to sell. Of course if you NEED the money for bills, sell off what you need. What's scary about stocks or even bitcoin Is, you never know when the top Is, if there is a top or if it will plummet to nothing.

That's why I set rules for myself like, once I make 4x my money I'll sell. But then you look back in hindsight and see you could have sold for 20x your money now and it passes you off and makes you sad lol

How can I take the emotion out of trading as I seem to be pretty good at picking stocks and buying crypto at the right times and always making at least double my money

But I'm very emotional with my money and that's not a good thing in this game. I didn't need the money when I sold my coins but I had just lost a huge amount off another investment and was so depressed about losing that money I said fuck I better cash my coins out as they've increased almost 5x so I can cover the loss of the business (even though I still had plenty of savings) and then some and not have to worry about losing my bitcoin money as well as my business money

It was a very emotional time for me and that's the worst fucking time to make choices regarding shit like this. I would have been fine for money even if I lost the bitcoin money...i just let fear of losing more money get to my head :(

Again, I made very good money and need to be happy. It's just hard not to think about the new tesla in the driveway and my vacation home id be sitting in right now instead of cold ass Canada lol

it's impossible, at least in any simple way
a few seem to do it, but having them explain how doesn't seem to work
