how about The Allman Brothers, Live At The Filmore, from back in '72, now THAT was a show!

and Stevie Ray Vaughan, ...his rendition of Tin Pan Alley on the 'Stevie Vaughan

I was lucky enough to see his last show b4 that day. Half way through he stops the band walks over to the amp pours a drink does a shot lights a smoke and sends the band off the stage. He looks out at us and asks "I bet you all are wondering wtf is going on huh?" The crowd starts cheering and he goes into a jam solo. 45 minutes later he's still JAMMIN SOLO and all the folks are starring at him with open mouths and the cheers had stopped. I can honestly say I was witness to something that day you hardly ever see,an artist just being him and loving it no matter what the crowd said. 2 weeks later he was gone and now all we have are the memory's of that day the day I would say beyond a doubt those that were there will NEVER FORGET.

RIP MR Vaughan You Are Missed

Not sure if I'm misunderstanding. I believe SRV was sober in his last years. He was connected to the universe in some way that no one else I've ever seen was. There was something legitimately magical about the way he could just channel energy ... seemingly effortlessly.
I saw him play 5 times including the last show on the night of his death. The weather would get all weird when he came around. It was just surreal.:ying:

hey doobie i know you said vinyl only but .... david lindley + hani naser live in tokyo. it is an "official bootleg" and won't be easy to find but it would be worth a try. i think i picked up mine from one of their roadies. record label is PLEEMHEAD catalog # 75336-2. the cd case does not give me any dates on it but there is an address for paul at P.O. Box 1342 Claremont, Ca. 91711. lindley is one of those guys who is scary good when he touches anything with strings. if you liked any of the guitar work on a jackson browne album you can blame this guy.

My musical taste changed forever when I first heard Made in Japan by Deep Purple. Superb album.

Others that deserve a mention:
Live at Leeds - The Who (it sounds a bit dated now)
Johnny Winter and Live
Babylon By Bus- Bob Marley
Bob Marley Live (in London I think?)
Get yer Ya Ya's Out- Rolling Stones (I think that was the name of it?)
The Song Remains the Same - Led Zep

I was also a big Thin Lizzy fan and very shocked a saddened when I read of the death of Gary Moore former guitar player for TL. He was such a monster guitar player and could play the blues with the best of them.

I can't just sit back and watch my thread drift off into cyberspace..no posts since Feb. 11th, come on guys. But really the reason I'm back is I listened to Woodstock the other afternoon, some great cut on that. Not such of a good recording but what can youexpect at a setting like that, in the rain, to bad they didn't have todays technology. Particularly I listened to Alvin Lees rippin lead guitar on "I'm Going Home" Ten Years After! Let's have a warm welcome for Ten Years After! Wow....DD

.I got to see them live back in 77 or 78 and they were too hot then!! Incredible musicians are hired to play that music? They are the funkiest white boys I have ever seen. Looking forward to the warmer weather.
