Kiss Alive is my favorite live album...it was also one of the first records I ever owned so that may be my bias....I've always been more into heavier rock than the smooth jam band type stuff
how about The Allman Brothers, Live At The Filmore, from back in '72, now THAT was a show!
and Stevie Ray Vaughan, ...his rendition of Tin Pan Alley on the 'Stevie Vaughan, In The Beginning' album will rock your world, ...and that whole album was recorded from a live radio show when Stevie was still a young struggling musician just hitting the Austin Texas music scene.
and both of those albums were released on vinyl.
peace, and stay safe, SOG
btw, i'd also like to add my voice as a fan of Rory Gallagher and Frank Zappa, both of whom could really rip it up (Frank was a very under-appreciated guitarist IMHO). ...and both had much work released on vinyl.
I saw Rory live when I was 14 at an outdoor festival; I had worked my way till I had my elbows on the stage. I started playing my Mom's guitar the next DAY.
Some of my fave live records back in the day:
ABB Live at the Fillmore
Derek & the Dominoes in Concert
that Edgar Winter Live record w/ Johnny on it
that Humble Pie double live LP already mentioned
Band of Gypsys and also the hard-to-find Hendrix In the West
Yessongs
Last Waltz
Dead Europe "72
Zappa..the plain brown cover live..has Mud Shark on it..It's back in my Mothers stack somewhere. Yes Frank and the boys deserve a mention of course. AllmanBros. Malisa from the Second Set album.DD
Hay man, yah was very kool jammin with Jonny at sound checks.
i worked on Roy Buchanan (sp) on his "When a Gutiar plays the blues tour" now that was way kool as well, ended up jammin with him in frount of 3 thousand punters at one gig.
we uesd to jam during sound checks in the afternoons, but he draged my out one night,he was a gifted muso....
Kindest Regards, FT...
