Best 1000w Digital Ballast ??

N

Neptune

I just bought a 240v Lumatek 1000w, I will update this thread with information regarding my experiences with it. Bought a HIDhut 1000w bulb for $45.00.

i'm plugging it in as soon as I get the 1kw bulb, going to use it to finish up one of my tables that is currently at 6 weeks bloom... so, i'll get a small idea as to if it even works at least. next run will be a true test though.

Congrats neptune.... did you use the discount rellikbuzz was talking about? It sounds like a great deal but I would be worried that they knew i was from a cannibis site... sounds like a security issue?? I'm going to switch my 2X600 magnetics out for digi's in about 6 months... definitely going to go with lumatek!

...there is no such thing as a 600 watt Metal Halide bulb... [conversion bulbs] run between 150.00-175.00 each!
Seems new bulbs have been put into production recently... I bought a 600w MH bulb from MD Hydro, for $40. Claims to be 6400K color spectrum, and that looks about right on one bulb, but the other bulb (the fatter one that looks like a Hortilux Blue) might be more in the 4000K-ish range. Not sure, might be just bad memory / perception at the time... gotta swap out bulbs and try comparing them again later.

Anyways, these are my 600w bulbs. It's actually three bulbs; one bulb is pictured on both photos. The first is my EYE Hortilux Super HPS and the MD Hydro 600w MH. The second is both versions of the 600w MH from MD Hydro. I'm not sure which one is shipping currently, or why there are two different versions, and what the differences might be (if any)... but they sent me one bulb for free so I'm not complaining.

I was surprised to see a 600w non-conversion bulb as well, as I didn't think they existed either.

Sorry, kinda got side-tracked there. Oops. Anyways, I'm glad I found this thread... didn't even know it existed!

Any updates, folks?

With the voltage transformer, will the 120v version be close in efficiency as the 240v, or will there be noticeable differences?

Clowntown,
I have not heard of any problems, the only person I have spoken with, ResinRyder, seems to have had a great few crops with the 1kw lumatek, yeilding some heavy weight from only 3 plants. (20oz I believe)

I just need a bigger hood for a real good run, but the daystar AC should be ok in a pinch..

Neuronaut, the internet is very competitive. Relik has a good deal going, but it is duplicated elsewhere. It is one of the lowest prices around, but I found many other folks willing to match that deal... and some that already offered the same deal. I will say that relik is a stand up member of our comunity, and there are no concerns with security whatsoever by going through his very good deal.

1kw light bulbs are 40$(shipped!!) folks, not 100-150$ like some people claim.

I'd personally like to know the total amps used on the 1000 watts 240 volts and the 600 watt 240 volts. This is something i haven't seen so far or I might have missed the info. I'd personally like to know home many lights i can fit on a system without getting to close to the maxium load. Anyone know the amps on these two lights? Great thread guys, keep the info coming.
Take care,
BG

watts/volts = amps

600w/120v = 5.0 amps
600w/240v = 2.5 amps

1000w/120v = 8.33 amps
1000w/240v = 4.16 amps

Hey Neptune and thanks. Is that for the digital, magnets or both ballast? Didn't know if the amps where different or the same. Thanks for the info and take care.... WOW, 2.5 amps. Going to load up the light on the new generator. lolol

that is for all electrical appliances(magnetic and digital ballasts too)! pretty ez huh? :)

Found this at Discount-Hydro's site. It's for the Galaxy lights, so the amps should be close for all the digital lights.

The 600 watt draws 5 amps at 120 volts and 2.5 amps at 240 volts. Thanks Neptune and your was right on the money. Just making sure, since i got to check all my numbers for the right generator i'm going with. Thanks and take care all.

Future brite ballasts DO crap out.. waiting on warranty now.. I'll let you guys in on how long it takes when it comes back. DIGIs are AWESOME 400/600 lumetk.. galaxy.. it dont matter but I don't care if they are giving you a 1000w future brite and a HJ DONT take it. its poo poo besides having a ballast down you will lose at least one bulb too.. so besides losing resources tied up w/ warranty your also losing a very very expensive lamp.

With that said.. I've gotten more than a couple magnetic ballasts that dont work right after a while.. I've had to use a warranty.. and everyone one of em has been apart for one reason or another. at about 205 for a 600w galaxy w/ 120v/240v switched ballast.. you can't go wrong.

a 400w is awesome because you can switch between any bulb you want. why buy a magnetic one???

GDW,

I do not recomend e-ballast with generators.
I don't know why, but that is the word on the forums.

The Phase is wrong, or something... (?????)

the paperwork that comes with my 1000's and 600's both state that use of a generator will void the warranties. i don't know why but i'd guess at dirty power.
a line conditioner may help help in making that problem go away as it does work well on my generator backup with my puters.

OK, guys. Here is the word on the generator issue. The problem isn't really the use of a generator. It's the use of a CMEMORY generator where the power goes all over the place and doesn't stay constant. I've got this from the horses mouth. That is the reason they say it will void warranty. Thanks for the help and info, but i went to the source and that's what they are telling me. I told them my future setup and said there shouldn't be a issue, "BUT". I am going to run 2 600HPS Digitals on the generator first with two magnetic backs ready to go if there is a issue. I'm going to do a full thread on the Generator verse the Digital Ballast issue. Don't worry, not going to dump 10-16 brand new light and cook them. The word is, "If your using a good generator with good constant volts." there isn't a issue, but they say that because. People goto Wally World and by these shitty cheap generators that aren't good for stuff like this. Anyways, will keep everyone in the loop on the issue this Dec.
Take care,
BG

GDW, when you say a "cheap" generator vs. a "good" one...

What components are in the "good" genset that are not included in
"cheap" ones that make the difference? what should I be looking for, besides a big price tag... lol
