and always wondered, but never got around to it...what do the green boxes under your name mean? You have your join date, amount of post, and then the green boxes.

Its the rep
Aka the reputation

We used to be able to down vote posts and give negative karma to users

People could have red boxes instead of green
Karma in the negative, -25 -2500

Since a year around we only can send positive

If you take a look at the lower left part of the screen when someone types, there is a scale
On that scale you can give rep

Also the helpful posts count as 1 karma point

You have quite a few so you must have said some approved things

If you go to the top right of the page
You will find aome blueish colored buttons

One of them is my Ic, where you can look at your karma points
Who gave you
And people can leave a message when they hit you up with karma

Cheers and im glad you asked

I believe it goes something like this.......

REP POINT FORMAT
User is a complete muppet -200
User cruising for a bruising -50
User user is a little naughty and needs to be good -10
User is an unknown quantity at this point 0
User is on a distinguished road 10
User will become famous soon enough 50
User has a spectacular aura about 150
User is a jewel in the rough 250
User is just really nice 350
User is a glorious beacon of light 450
User is a name known to all 550
User is a splendid one to behold 650
User has much to be proud of 1000
User has a brilliant future 1500
User has a reputation beyond repute 2000
User is a survivor 3000

It's easy to see why some wingnut members turn their reps off,
when you get into the negatives points it's rather humiliating.

when I give a Helpful vote rep it gives somewhere between 15 ~ 30 points depending on the recipients own post count & rep tally; when I give a scales rep it is usually in the 40~70 point range, again depending on the recipients posts/reps.

how can you get neg point other than from a mod?

when you clik on the 'scales' symbol there is an option to give that person a negative rep, it will deduct points from his rep tally and appear in his rep column as a red box, not green or gray.......

want me to show you??? ;)

You need over 1000 posts to dish out neg rep.

How many posts to send positive rep? I just spent 30 mins trying to figure out how to send good rep or say this post was helpful, and then I realized I may not have enough posts yet....

unlike other sites giving rep here is confusing ....even more so if blazzed ....of which I concede too occasionally...do 'we' click the ""Did you find this post helpful? Yes "" or the
icon to the right of the green/gray button under your avatar..????

I think it is the cauliflower looking thingie to the right of the round green whatchamacallit underneath your doohickey... I think...I'm not sure about the "do you find this post helpful?" option.

So..... I have been using the "do you find this post helpful " since I joined- does this add rep too ? If not , there are lots of posts I read that are lacking rep!!
Thanks stoner4life for the info

okay...so I see that icon under my own name, but no one else has the same icon...

you can't see the other members scales icon because with your low post count you're not able to use the 'scales rep' function. only 21 posts in 5.5 years? @ that rate 50 posts will be attained by you in 7 or 8 years from now.

and btw, you need 1000 posts to give anyone a green rep, pass down your icmag password to your children/grandchildren/greatgrandchildren/etc if your intention is to leave green reps for members here, because again @ the going rate it will be appx 250 years before you get to 1000 posts....... ;)

Yeah it's the same thing, it totally gives rep. It just doesn't allow you to customize the message.
