Isn't it great when you can pull a seed off a plant and start growing it before the original plant even gets chopped?
Btw, I've been meaning to ask, why do you use diatomaceous earth in the base of your pots? I used to use it as a top-dressing to fend off fungus gnats but discontinued as it a) seemed to have no effect and b) was a pain in the ass (watering turned it into concrete mud, dust got everywhere, etc).
Cheers,
AK
In my hempy cups the diatomaceous earth acts as
a wicking agent for the bottom reservoir in the cups,...
The plant roots mostly stop at the diatomaceous earth layer,
and sip from the wet layer as needed.
I moved away from pearlite as was difficult to separate
from the coco and had less to offer all around.
To fend off pests, I pasteurize my medium prior to planting.
No gnats at all since I employ that method, years pest free.
Ah, that makes sense! I was wondering if it was some kind of soilless grow thing. So do you have drainage holes in the base of your cups, or are the bottoms just full of wet DE?
I've had such problems with gnats... I'm growing in compost + perlite, and foolishly brought a load of unpasturised compost in before xmas. Never again. Combination of nematodes and BTi has got them under control now (fingers crossed....)
Nice to see you still updating, DC
Hope things are going well
