Good to hear my man. Yeah, I've been around a bit where I'm at now, just got myself a trails bike too (KTM) so my weekends consist of exploring. :D Most everything around is related to the local farms or the logging companies, but they've just cleaned up a few large forestry patches close by so I'll be looking there for spots soon enough, plus I'm good friend with one of the bigger farm families up here so we'll see. Sadly, I'm still technically in Auckland though so most forestry blocks are camerad up for poachers which make things hard to use as guerilla plots.

Forestry have been buzzing round here with all the carbon planting and dips in the prices of wood. I have seen some of the largest skid sites I've ever seen.. I use a mountain bike in the bush just for bush security reasons.. if you get in and explore the ares you think are camera'd up now then you will get a good tell on response time. Have a grow going at the moment that I have just started supplementing with led.

i planted some seeds for outdoors recently. I'm not sure how they will survive, it's a bit early and cold. I'll give them my best, and if it is a fail I can always replant.

My season is starting slow. Has anyone else got there outdoor plant in? My plants look a bit shit. Just growing slow. I'm sure they will pick up soon, but they are still seedlings and been up for 21 days, looks like they have been up 7 days. Heaps of time for them to improve, but i really don't know what i did wrong this year. I put them in a super shady spot to start with, and maybe that fucked me up a bit. I've moved them into the sun now and am hoping they pick up fast. I got heaps of time and would prefer smaller plants this year for security. So it's no drama, but it is unusual for me to have slow growth so early. Maybe i started too soon? I'm not sure.

that said, i have my full quota of seeds up. I'm trying my own seeds from last year (blue dream x green crack) 3/4 of the crop, and about 1/4 of the crop is purple punch. And despite the sluggish start I think I can turn it around. In fact I am certain I can turn it around! A minor setback will not deter my bumper yield!

Hey man i don't plant until November, temperature difference would be huge though. I really just wait on the ground temperatures. I will put a bunch of seedlings in, come October. Fingers crossed these fires aren't a problem this year..

Hey fullas. Been prepping a few more spots. Also trying out fabric bags this year. Picked 20 up for cheap but they're only 10 litres.. i am near a swamp how ever so if watering becomes an issue ill submerge the pots a little under ground where the water table begins. Plenty of lime for the dirt. Plenty of digging. Loving it. Hope you guys are all enjoying life.

Awesome BnB. Life's going great up here, hope things are well with you and yours too. Quick question, what do you tend to use for pest/insect control? I've used neem, DE, and companion planting to small success in pots outdoors, but am always happy to learn more ways. Plots look good mate.

Hey man, I cage mostly for possums. Last year was a problem with vine hoppers and lace wing, I used the Chilli spray from warehouse and it worked awesome. Plenty of pig sign through this spot so here's hoping they don't get too curious hahaha.. cheers man.

Had a bit of a false start... but the weather is getting better now. I'll have to get a new greenhouse next year (last one melted). Lesson learnt. I probably knew it, but had to remind myself with a bit of a fail haha. Still shaping up for a good season though, even if i am having a bit of a weird staggered start. However when you are no longer paying $20 a bean it doesn't matter so much doing some experimentation. I'll just have to bring shit in the house if frost is forecast. A late start probably works well for me this year as we have a lack of cover this year.

Glad to see some others starting. going to be exciting to see what comes out of people's gardens this season. Hopefully we are all showered in beautiful, mould and pest free flowers this year!

Howdy folks..
I haven't visited this thread in a while..
I hope all my Kiwi and Aussie friends are doing well and gearing up for your upcoming season.

Everything is harvested here and mostly dried and waiting on the trim scissors...My least favorite part of growing!

Anyway, this year I used absolutely no sprays, powders or drenches for insects...
For a few years now I've had a birdfeeder at the hideout...
And back in the Spring, I put up a birdhouse which became immediately occupied..

I made sure that the feeder was filled everyday and every morning when going out there, dozens of birds would be hanging out...
In the brush and hopping around in my bushes..

Grasshoppers used to be a major concern for me by mid or late summer. And moths laying caterpillar eggs...

This entire season I had absolutely zero grasshoppers, very few moths, and found less than a dozen caterpillars total, on all plants combined...

Birds are your best friend when it comes to insect control in your secret garden..
I probably spent $75 on bird seed this year, but it was worth every penny...

This pic is about a month before I chopped everything...
You can see the birdfeeder behind my back and to my right..

Many of the birds got to know me and would hop around in my big bushes, eating bugs while I was 10 or 15 feet away, watering my girls...

That's great advice Bud, thanks a lot. We actually have tons of birds around where I'm at too so that's a very viable option. Cheers mate!

Got my first two plants down now. One Iranian Indica and one bagseed plant, not sure of the sex of either, but being hopeful and only putting two per 'cage'. Aiming for 4-5 more similar plots.
