@ day 12 they were doing great and kicking ass. i think that the over watering caused to many of the ferts in the soild to be absorbed into the roots! any other takers

I'd go with overwatering too, under CFL's they don't need water so regularely than under HPS.. I would dry out the soil asap to save the plant

This could also be caused by the soil type, did you add perlite?

I can see a tinge of purple color in picture 2. This might be signs of phosphorus deficiency. Either your plants are in need of fertilizer or have root damage from overwatering, etc... I would guess you just need to lightly fertilize unless your miracle grow soil contains slow release fertilizer. It might advertise "lasts 3 months" on the bag. In which case, you should carefully repot into better soil because this could damage your plants especially indoors. Here is a picture of phosphorus deficiency. Notice the purple coloring including the undersides of the leaves. Check your seedling closely for this. Click on it to enlarge.

Here is what the aquaman2112 grow guide says about phosphorus deficiency: http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=24496&highlight=aquaman2112
Phosphorus can overall reduce the size of your plants. Not enough causes slow growth and cause the plant to become weak, to little amount of Phosphorus causes slow growths in leaves that can and or drop, The edges all around the leave or half of the leaves can be brownish and work its way inwards a bit causing the part of the leaves to stick up in the air a bit. Fan leaves will show dark greenish purplish and yellowish as well. Sometimes the leaves can have a dullish blue color to them as well. Sometimes stems can be red and Red petioles can happen when having a Phosphorus deficiency. This isn’t a sure sign of you having one though, but can be a sign.

MG soil wuill release ferts when watered, overwatering will cause overfert

looks like your roots are fucked

i'd repot into some seedling raising mix
you can always add nutes when nessecary

so the roots will not get better on their own? i have to replant them to save them? the soil is almost dry now. i cut off the dead leaves.

I wouldn't give up on them, hell no. Let them rest and try to recover and don't give them anything.

Guys, I have been growng with MG for a year now. The ferts are slow release and the ppms are riduculously low.

No! No! Don't give up! We're just trying to figure out what to do next.

1. Does your soil contain slow release fertilizer? It will resemble small round pellets like the size of a "rollie pollie" curled up. LOL. You could also check the bag for a description of this being "lasts 3 months". This is not good for indoor growing. Better for outside when it has the advantage of keeping ferts in the soil if there is a heavy rain.

2. Examine your seedlings for the purple coloring I descibed and have provided a picture of. I can see this color in your bottom picture. Then, your seedlings may just be in need of a all purpose fertilizer (npk) containing phosphorus. You would apply it very lightly for such a small seedling. This might be a good sign if the seedling is starving because you would know the soil mixture is not too "hot" and burning it.

3. If your "gutsy" enough, take one of the cups and turn it upside down while keeping the seedling from coming out with your hand. Slowly slide the seedling + soil out of the cup and examine the roots. Are their alot? Are they white and fluffy like cotton along their edges? Now you know what your root system is doing.

Sproutco, with all due respect I cannot imagine 18 day old seedlings being deficient on any nutrient, and not phosphorous. More than likely the color is genetics.

On the contrary, MG 3 month is what you would want to use on an indoor grow. That's about how long it takes to grow out a plant, give or take a few weeks depending on the strain.

updated pics. root shot

updated pics. root shot

those spots dont look like purple but i guess that is what u are talking about. yeah just that plant has them. that plant is the only one that has really fat leaves compared to the other two.

here are some updated pics...

root shot. the soil is very dry and airy. the soil pretty much came apart in my hand. i am sure it is dry now.

Are the areas pointed to redish-purple? Click on it to enlarge.

If they are then I think you just need to lightly fertilize with an all purpose fertillizer containing phosphorus. Your roots look great! Starving a plant will increase root growth alot of times instead of shoot growth. Is there dolomite lime in miracle grow soil? This would supply your plant with calcium and magnesium. I doubt there is gypsum in your soil to supply sulfur. So, your ferts that you add to water should contain nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, sulfur, iron, manganese, zinc, copper, boron, and molybdenum. And, calcium and magnesium if no lime in the soil. You should ph adjust your fert water after mixing to be precise in your feeding.

MG sproutco, remember?

Let's see Sticky, they are 3 week old seedlings already in cups of MG. Thera looking better. I say do nothing. Water them when they are totally dry. Keep them close to the light and let them grow.

sprout - those spots are pretty small but i do think they are redish. that plant above is getting worse. the other 2 are still a bit yellow and thats it- however they haven t grown any in like a week. the soil is 100% dry and airy. i only added water last night right at the base of the plant into where the jiffy pot is, a tiny bit at that.

if i get a ALL AROUND type fert. can i get it from like HD or BLOWS? what am i looking for?

Peters or new name Jacks classic 20-20-20 would work. Its not the best fert. If those spots I pointed to are redish purple your seedlings might could take a dose of this. 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon per gallon of water. Is your stem a redish purple color too?

What you look for in a fert for vegetative growing is:
> a ratio of maybe 2-1-2
> high in nitrate nitrogen and low in ammonia or urea nitrogen
> contain calcium and magnesium if no dolomite lime in your soil
> contain sulfur if no gypsum or other sulfate source of fertilizer used
> not some bonker rate of copper and zinc like .05% with nitrogen at 20%
>potassium source not from potassium chloride...alot of chlorine yuk!

When watering either water thoroughly or don't...don't just add small amounts at a time.

Phosphorus deficient seedling with redish purple color

Your seedling with same color

I don't recommend miracle grow plant food. Here is what they say on there website.

Select a pot or container with drainage holes that is one size larger than the old pot.
Remove the plant from the old pot by tapping it in three places against a countertop and turning it upside down into your hand. If the roots are tightly wound, gently slice the sides of the root ball in two or three places.
Place some Miracle-Gro Potting Mix or Miracle-Gro Moisture Control Potting Mix in the bottom of the new pot and insert the plant stem or root ball. Fill with more potting mix and press lightly. The plant should be at the same mix level as it was originally growing, and there should be about an inch of space from the top of the mix to the lip of the pot.
Water to thoroughly soak the potting mix, then allow to drain.
For best results, wait 30 days, then supplement the nutrients of this potting mix by using Miracle-Gro Plant Food, following package directions.

If you don't fertilize your seedlings then they are just livin on love.

Livin' On Love By Alan Jackson

Two young people without a thing
Say some vows and spread their wings
Settle down with just what they need
Livin' on love

She don't care 'bout what's in style
She just likes the way he smiles
It takes more than marble and tile
Livin' on love

Livin' on love, buyin' on time
Without somebody nothin' ain't worth a dime
Just like an old fashioned story book rhyme
Livin' on love
It sounds simple that's what you're thinkin'
But love can walk through fire without blinkin'
It doesn't take much when you get enough
Livin' on love

Two old people without a thing
Children gone but still they sing
Side by side in that front porch swing
Livin' on love
He can't see anymore
And she can barely sweep the floor
Hand in hand they'll walk through that door
Just livin' on love

Livin' on love, buyin' on time
Without somebody nothin' ain't worth a dime
Just like an old fashioned story book rhyme
Livin' on love
It sounds simple that's what you're thinkin'
But love can walk through fire without blinkin'
