Are Gavita ballasts that much better?

I've been doing a lot more reading and it seems that they are more for big set ups where you have many lights and I don't know if they will be worth it two me who only wants 2 1000 watt lights running, it also seems that you would almost certainly need to have the Ac running for almost the whole lights on cycle to deal with the heat because I can't vent the hoods. I think I'll just get one of the quantum or lumatek ballasts with a good bulb, vent my hoods and use co2 in the rooms, Ac usage in this set up should be minimal, which should keep the power usage down compared to the power I would have to use in the room with non vented hoods, I'm not in a legal state so power consumption is something I have to factor in

I bet Sativa Dragon is running vented lights in his non AC'd little tykes grow room.. That's why he's convinced himself they are a subpar product.. Keep telling yourself you're right Sativa Dragon.. maybe one day you'll step up to the big leagues
yes,that was an odd thing to say,i was under the impression that the gavitas were one of the most widely used fixtures in commercial greenhouses,and im betting the margins are much slimmer on 3 dollar a pound tomatoes....

Yes we are talking about HID's However I make the distinction by naming one as Gavita, the other well what shall we call it then Mofeta? Toyota perhaps?

i think the point sativa dragon was trying to make is this,for a personal use scale gardener the gavitas are probably not worth the hassle since to use them correctly you should build your room around them.but for anyone from a 2 light "pay the bills" type garden up to warehouse grows then absolutely,they will pay for themselves over time,and pretty quickly too...given that you have your garden set up correctly of course,if you arent using the tool correctly then you can hardly blame the tool...

oh,and its the combination of the phillips de bulb and the gavita pro series ballast combo that is whats really makes it work....the ballast was designed specifically to fire the phillips de bulb correctly at the right voltage and frequency for maximum efficiency and bulb life.

As much as I LOVE my Gavita's in my flower room, when I recently purchased a new 4x4 tent setup for seed testing/selecting, I did not go with a Gavita.
I instead went with an air cooled hood, 1000 watt xtrasun ballast and a Ushio HPS bulb.
So yes, maybe not the best light for every situation.

Thanks for chiming in TC, you can do a lot with a 4 x 4 for personal use.
I ran a 1000watt LED, for the money I paid for it I should have got the Gavita, the essential oil profile from my LED wasn't quite what I expected and prefer I the HPS, it usually produces some knarly looking flowers.

I agree I don't think a 1000 pro Gavita would work well in tents. The hidth is to low. I did go with a Gavita hood (triplestar) with a 600mh in it run off of a Solis Tek Matrix Set to 600.I really like this setup in my tent. I was using a bare bulb. This is so much better. The plants are super happy. I use 3.. 2 E-Papillon and 1 gavita with remote ballast in my flower room.. The 1000 pro DE are working better than any other lighting setup I have used. If I was starting from scratch I would make some changes but since I can't do that it should not stop anyone from using them as long as they have the min space needed. If you have a ceiling lower than 8' you're going to have issues. I think this is why Third has his set to 600? he can clarify that. I wont ever go back to normal SE bulbs in the flower room. These will work very well for any grower. No one I know that uses them has said they like SE bulb ballast better the DE systems. Before you decide witch to get look at both Gavita and E-Papillon. The hood is diferant on the E-P it covers a larger area or Covers the same area better. I cant remeber what the rep said but it was something like that.

It is a sweet Ballast. I have too many spare really. I do have a spare 1k nano extreme made by CAP . They where bought out by Hydrofarm. they renamed them to Nanolux.. I was very suprised how well this ballast worked for how small it was. No heat sinks only 2 small fans in a push/pull config. It produces no heat.. I though these would do well but being made by CAP no one trusted them..
