Hit that painful period where plants are getting oh so close, and yet... could probably stand just a little longer before getting the chop?

This Boreal Lights is showing all cloudy, maybe a touch of amber here and there, but not much. I was hoping to be ready to take it down by the 1st, but I dunno... might take a branch tomorrow and see how it is. Downside is we're supposed to be getting some much needed rain over the next few days, so it'll have to wait at least until early next week.

In other news walked out of my spot and noticed the neighbor and two of her kids less than 10 feet away raking/doing something under some wild grape vines that are on my property, but admittedly in an area that's adjacent to hers, and it's somewhat vague where the exact line is. A little too close for comfort. I doubt they can see in even from that spot, I leave it mad overgrown for a reason. It's a legal state and I have other neighbors pretty openly growing (smells very strong in road, can see plants through hedges from the right angle), so not that worried, but rippers are always a bit of a concern, and loose lips sink ships.

My plants grow in the garden amongst lavender, oregano and thyme. Needless to say there's lots of bumblebees. They always love to sleep in the plants but I thought this was pretty cool tonight. 3 of them all hunkered down together :good:

Lavender is a natural pesticide
Lavender oil, which I haven't experimented with, is lethal to "bugs" and their eggs

It would have to be pretty concentrated as the spit bugs love the lavender in the spring.
I do love the smell of all the other herbs mixed with the plants smell.
I grow garlic with them as well but really the key to keeping bugs off them is maintaining a high brix levels. I have never had the need for any sprays, neem, etc.

Love different herb aromas, and have a few growing
Was told once, to dip cotton wool in lavender oil, and, hang a few indoors
I wouldn't spray plants with oil anything

It's cracking me up this summer, the 'why does weed suck now?' threads. I'm in awe of my garden this year, it's one of the best I've had. Of course the plants are healthy and vigorous and big but that's one part. The genetics, the smells, the growth patterns, the potency, is blowing my mind. The last few years I've focused on both improving my own breeding and getting the best stuff I can find. Or maybe it's just luck. This group of plants, I've never had such aromatic plants at the start of flowering. Almost every plant smells amazing, many of them are unique. Hashy, lemony, medicine chest, incense, tropical fruit, menthol. There's 4 or 5, when I rub the stalks and sniff it buckles my knees. Sends a shock down my nervous system to the chakra right behind my balls. It makes me think, if you're not happy with your strains, your garden, what you smoke, you need to get your shit together.

Of course the commercial stuff, the dispensaries in my state, drown in mediocrity. Ganja's always been a pyramid, with me and a few of my friends at the sunny spot on top growing the good stuff. I feel bad for people that are dissatisfied and think all the ganja they see is lousy. I think I'm a snob but it takes snobbery to a whole other level that's right on the border with asshole country.

One plant that's got me swooning is my Guava Wookie. I have two phenos, a vigorous one with serrated dark green wide Afghan type fan leaves and a slower growing one with thinner smaller leaves. Thinner but I wouldn't quite call them sativa. I had 3, could only keep two. Maybe another year I'd step on the gas pedal and keep the two bigger ones with the fancy leaves and stocky impressive stature. Write off the little one as a scrag or runt.

The little voice I started hearing after huffing ether told me the runty one might be something unique or interesting. I stuck her in the ground and I'm glad I did. Big wide leaf sis got big, I tied her over and she's bushed out into a beauty that smells like guava fruit salad, amazing. Little sister didn't get tall but went mega bush. One of the most perfect structures I've seen. She's not tall, 7.5-8 feet but just as wide. The smell is incredible, one of the best ever. It's a combination of herbs, from lavender to oregano to sage to deeper incense hash type things. Incredibly complex. Check her out.

I can see the resin glisten when the sun shines on the branches. She's already tufted with hairs, hopefully she'll finish quick. I'm in awe.

She's a favorite, the garden is full of favorites. On top of the favorites, I've got two plants that are special, without them it would be a fine grow and a summer well spent but they take it to another level. A Cherry Queen and a Black Cherry Garlic. My old grower friend described them as 'everything a pot grower could want'. The branching is perfect, not too bushy, not to thin. The light penetrates to the center of the plant without any wasted space. The Cherry Queen smells incredible, knee buckling. Like an old cherry cough drop only sweeter and hashier. Another one with resin glistening on the branches.

The Black Cherry Garlic is in the middle of the patch, it's hard to get a good picture. It's the perfect spot, the lower branches have grown as tall as the surrounding plants so they aren't shaded out. They're at least 7-9 feet. The top is over 11. She has pink petioles, a beautiful open structure. The leaves are very dark, even in Veg, I can tell it's going to be dark dark purple at harvest. Like the Cherry Queen the leaves and branches aren't so thick they block each other out allowing sun to penetrate to the heart of the plant.

In both pictures it's the big plant in the center. She also smells cherry but nastier, hashy dark dank potency. The only concern at this point is that they haven't formed tufts, I don't know when they'll finish. They're tucked and ready to go any day now. Otherwise they've got yield, aroma, vigor, form, soul, what more could I want?
