Anyone make their own stash box?

Hello All  , :chin: thinking of making my own stash box w/sifting screens. After using the same candy box for twenty years, the wife says she can smell it when I walk into the room with it. Figured I am old enough now to enjoy the finer things in life. LOL

I have been looking into the different mesh/micron sizes available.

My questions are, has anyone else made their own?
Did you use Polyester, Stainless steel, Copper, brass?
There are an endless number of sizes & types available.
The sizes I am considering are-120x120 mesh .0037 wire dia. w/opening .0046"x.0046"
142x142 mesh .0026 x .0026 .004 x.004 opening = 37%

Any & all help appreciated! :sasmokin:
Just trying to save some funds. If it is like my other DIY projects :badday: , I will prolly just order one from OP or Gypsy.

I havent yet but been thinking about it or getting a space case grinder with 2 or 3 screens i ordered a press for for the trich's from the idea in this thread ! $20+S&H aprx 8

http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=47524

if i was to make one it would be brass like smoking screens, stainless or poly mesh............copper i wouldn't use . in my opinion.

copper looks pretty cool in a roaring bond fire tho purple blues greens
BUT STAY UPWIND.

Hey, thanks for the reply's. Thats what I have considered is using a cigar box. I have been getting pretty crazy looking around though. Found some Lacewood at a lumber yard here. The stuff looks so cool. They have 4/4 stock that has been surfaced already.

I have never used nor seen a stash box w/screens in it.
Is my assumption correct that when you break up your herb on top the Trichrome's just fall thru the screen? :chin:
To the next level? I am thinking to put two sizes of screen in the box.

:sasmokin:

Thanks Uncle Jesse for the heads up on the copper!! Now that you mention it, I remember someone once putting copper sulfate on a fire to turn the flames blue.

I personally like to keep both operations separate.. When I sift kief... i have separate frames just for that and a glass table top. I do have a fondness for boxes though. My local cigar shop will sell you really nice cigar boxes for a 1.00 donation. They are beautiful and lined with cedar. Lately I have been experimenting with a really slow cure with a few choice buds in these boxes. I still use jars but i may take a few large buds and cure them separately in these boxes. Not sure it is making that much of a difference but its something to do at least.

bought a box @ a festival. was around 9" x 11" x 3.5" wood framed. was a sweet box! the bottom was glass that the keif landed on under the screens. was made so the glass slid out. it had 2 screens, dont know their size, just that the hole size is what matters. will look for better info, think i got in a book. the box had a lid also, kept everythin from gettin dusty.

Time for my pointless post of the day, doesn't copper turn fire green?

box i had consisted of 2 screens. always wished the small hole one was a tad smaller. needless 2 say ya might want to experiment a little. the book Hashish! by Robert Connell Clarke has a very indepth section on "sieving equipment" that gives lots of info. basic thing says is: smaller the micron, smaller the material to pass thru. has a diagram showing resin glands seperating from plant debris starting at 150 microns & 50 microns starts seperating dust and other debris from the resin glands.

I have several cigar boxes and have been wanting to make a stash box for years, but have never found any information on what screen size to use or where to get it from. Does anyone know which of the screens on the link from above http://www.dickblick.com/zz434/05/ would be the best size for a single screen box?

Bubblin, I've been looking into building a stash box myself.

From what I've read so far, it seems that '100 mesh' is a commonly used screen. I think that's the same as TPI (Threads per inch?). So the 110 TPI maybe?

Not real sure on this yet, hopefully someone else knows more.

Edit: I can't for the life of me find it now, but a while back I stumbled across a post, or a page with a chart showing the conversions for mesh/micron/TPI/etc... now where did that go? Hmmm....

Yep, Pimpslapped if ya find that chart please post.

Here is the place to order screen from.
www.mcmaster.com
Just search steel screen, it lists all the sizes available.
Here is the list I am about to order-

# 85385T872
Corrosion-Resistant Type 304 SS Wire Cloth 100 X 100 Mesh, .0045" Wire Dia, 12" X 12" Sheet (Same as 85385T101)
$4.50 Each
#85385T875
Corrosion-Resistant Type 304 SS Wire Cloth 150 X 150 Mesh, .0026" Wire Dia, 12" X 12" Sheet (Same as 85385T104)
$5.92 Each
#85385T877
Corrosion-Resistant Type 304 SS Wire Cloth 200 X 200 Mesh, .0021" Wire Dia, 12" X 12" Sheet (Same as 85385T108)
$7.65
They do have other types avail. I just figured can not go wrong w/stainless steel.

If I use lacewood to make.
wood=$32.80
screen=$32.12
hardware & felt=$14.35
$79.77 just for materials.
Have seen several listed for same $. They would not have three screens though. :sasmokin:

110 inch count = 151 micron opening
125 inch count = 132 micron opening
140 inch count = 120 micron opening
160 inch count = 106 micron opening
200 inch count = 79 micron opening

I like the final product of the 140 inch count, and it hardly clogs at all.

In the future I'm going to make myself some nesting sieves with I think 4 or 5 different screens for dry sift. But that's a few years down the road...

Thanks for all they Reply's!!
Yep, I actually was scoping out the Gypsy box more. It is much better I think than what I had planned. The hardware used looks much nicer. The more I add up my parts I am still considering ordering the screen, then just making 3 frames to sift over. :chin:
then make a box out of some pine boards I have.
Here is a chart I found at a tool supply company. (Got Bud) Really posted what I wanted to know. :joint:

Looks like that 200 would be fine enough. gonna pop over & see just how small the bubble bags get.
Gonna place order, more snow today so, will prolly have enough time to cut the wood for my frame. :sasmokin: :canabis: :smoker:
