I'm considering purchasing another canoe. This time a solo or possibly a pack canoe. Lightweight Kevlar or a composite. My question is. Does anyone have experience going from a traditional seating position to the floor seating of a pack canoe? I have a bad back so I'm wondering if paddling from the lower position will be better or worse for my back.
No, but I had a kevlar boat. Best decision I ever made(kinda).
Mine was a Souris River...weighed 43 lbs.

Nice photo's guys. I just purchased another canoe for $400. It came with an Old Town electric motor and a removable motor mount. I don't think I'll ever use them. This canoe is an Old Town Osprey 15.5. It's a 2000 year model.

The hull is in very good shape. Just needs a light polish and some 303 Marine UV protectant. The cane in the seats were broken so I removed the old cane, refinished the frames and replaced the cane with webbing. I'm refinishing the yoke tonight. I also lucked out and found NOS Osprey decals as the ones on the canoes were peeled off and only the shadows of them remained. Here are a few picture of the canoe and my progress.

You said you had a Kevlar canoe. Why did you get rid of it? Not what you expected.
I took the SO to a river we'd done many times before, but the water was up. I was complacent, didn't lock-in the dry-bag, didn't notice how fast the water was, and there weren't any places to pull off. They were under water. Long story, shorter, we hit a shoot and the boat filled quickly. She broke a knee cap. I went over her, holding a paddle and the boat, watching the dry-bag float away.
Managed to flip the canoe and gather stuff. A dog came out an circled us, I thought it was a sign from God, but K said not to steal someone's dog.
After years in the basement, I sold it for $600, including roof-rack and accessories. He drove hundreds of miles to pick it up.

That's a beautiful looking canoe. It sounds like that guy got a fantastic deal. My son wants to learn how to canoe and portage. He's a big boy at 6'3" and about 200#'s. So, he'll be carrying the canoe. We'll go up into the Adirondack park in NY state. In the St.Regis Wilderness area where we will canoe and camp. I'll start him out on a small nearby pond to teach him some basic skills first.

All it needed was a coat of varnish. I even added kevlar and adhesive to the package. Maybe fix some of the patches from where Morgan missed a rock...faces in the trees, Maya glyphs in the rocks, under-water...good times.
I new a guy who could 1-arm roll a canoe, he was on the covers of magazines.
If you are carrying that boat, get kevlar. :tiphat:
