Brownpants- It helps me also, long after the "high" has worn off.

The_Skunkist- I don't doubt your love of cannabis, but I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you're not a diagnosed depressive. Serotonin=the brains natural prozac? You make it sound as though those of us that suffer have a prozac deficiency, lol. I can tell you that prozac ruined my life. Insert vowels into my user name to get a sense of how I feel about that particular pharmaceutical.

Prozac can help some, not all. Same with cannabis.

I am not a native english speaking man .
So before to search and use the word anti-depressant I used "prozac".

So serotonin is your natural antidepressant.
I was diagnosed depressive ... I used to eat everymorning a pill of neuroleptic ( risperdal ) and an pill of antidepressant ... ( seroxat - effexor - seroplex : I had to change often because I develloped an high tolerance ) for years .

I have stop everything ( and it was diffcult ) because these medecines are pretty bad chemical hard drugs with too much after effects ... ( appetite - sexuality - sleep )

How was it? Did it change you & the way you see life?
From what i hear words cannot desribe it. Does it really only last for 15 mins?

The ayahuasca effects last for hours . (2/5 hours)
It depends also on the ceremony, you can drink ayahuasca 1 or 2 times in the same ceremony. When you juge the effects too slight you can ask for more to the shaman .

Be ready for an intense inner voyage . An hallucinogen trip in your body your mind and your spirit .

It is very difficult for me to talk about all these experiences in english . And in few words .

Even though I smoke weed and enjoy it, I wouldn't recommend it to redress a complex biochemical imbalance such as depression, I think it is best addressed using lots of exercise, good diet, self esteem boosting activities (go out and do some good deeds or some charitable work with other depression sufferers for example) and if that fails get some actual help from a qualified psychiatric practitioner - 'coz you really don't want to **** around if you are clinically depressed and I think you are kidding yourself if you think you can smoke yourself better. But I would love to be proved wrong.

I've heard good things about Cherry Cough and anti-anxiety. Have yet to try it myself, though so I can't say much.

Cannabinoids promote embryonic and adult hippocampus neurogenesis and produce anxiolytic- and antidepressant-like effects

"In summary, since adult hippocampal neurogenesis is suppressed following chronic administration of opiates (20), alcohol (21), nicotine (22), and cocaine (23), the present study suggests that cannabinoids are the only illicit drug that can promote adult hippocampal neurogenesis following chronic administration. Increased hippocampal neurogenesis appears to underlie the mechanism of anxiolytic- and antidepressant-like effects produced by a high dose of chronic HU210 treatment. The opposing effects of high doses of acute and chronic cannabinoids, together with the anxiolytic-like effects caused by a low dose of cannabinoids, may finally explain discrepancies in the clinical study literature regarding the effects of cannabinoid on anxiety and depression."

Basically, CBDs found in bud cause new brain cells to be made in your hippocampus = area of the brain. These new brain cells apparently have an anti-depressant effect. However, large amounts of :joint: counteracts the anti-depressant effect.

So small dose - anti-depressive effect
Large dose - no effect.

Personally, I believe a proper anti-depressant mediction (ssri, ssnri) is necessary to help readdress the balance of chemicals in the brain that are responsible for mood but in combination with therapy and exercise.

Low amounts of Cannabis can be effective at treating the symptoms, allowing medication and therapy to treat the cause. I have been smoking Strawberry Cough exclusively for the past 5 months and found it's great at controlling my anxiety, it's extremely enhancing and calming. I have experienced no paranoia at all (although everyone is different).

(if anyone is interested in looking up medical studies on cannabis and it's effects, check out the link in my sig to grannys mmj studies and scroll down to depression)

For myself...

Depression - Strawberry Cough, Morningstar, Jack H (only small amounts)

Anxiety - Hashberry (also makes for some of the best midnight movie viewing that you'll ever experience.

The last, and only time I had hashberry, I combined it with a 40 of Mickey's, and watched "Deliverance" in HD...that was some insane shit right there. ;)

I have read in the past from other growers that use theirs for anxiety and for others that pretty much any strain that is indica or even mixed indica/sativa if you take it out to the point that all trichs are amber will have a nice effect on anxiety.

One I recall saying he would normally chop 2 weeks after it would look done.

What I have also found in my experience is that until a full cure has occered it is always too early to judge what effect the strain will have. I have had harvests that make someone get racy when they smoke it a few weeks into the cure and 2 months later it does not have that effect. It really depends on the person too of course. Some are more sensitive to others to the CBD ratios.

CA MMJ patient with depression.
I treat myself with Power Plant, Haze, Chemdawg, Cinderella'99, Kali Mist, Green Crack, Sour Diesel, and Strawberry Cough. I am always on the look out for strains that are energetic, euphoric, creative, without getting me stoned. Strawberry Cough already is an 'evening' strain, being fairly relaxing and sedating.

If, like me, your anxiety is a result of your depression, a clean straight sativa will keep you functional and social, and with a positive disposition such that anxiety does not later arise.

If your anxiety is independant of your depression, then I think you should be looking at calming and relaxing indicas. For me, indicas make me very calm but do nothing to help my depression.

Great thread, glad I found it. I have anxiety and depression and need new clones in a week or so therefore I'm paying close attention. Unfortunately it isn't that easy to find specific clones in SoCal.
