Hi wswise,

Looking very nice :) You are doing a great job with your Malawi indoors.
With such flower development at 10 weeks I highly doubt it's a purple haze x malawi,
the flower in your last post looks close to be done, although upper colas could still be reflowering a bit, producing fresh pistils.

If you got the seeds directly from us kindly send me a pm or email with the reference number of your order and i will check back what it was sent.

Kind regards

Posts like this are why I ordered from you & BOG. Thanks for operating your business with integrity.

Thanks for the kind words Dubi. All I can say about the seed pack was it came from Herbies, it was in your 1 seed packaging, and it said purple malawi on the outside. It looks really close but there are still a ton of new growth calyx and, under a loupe, I am not seeing very many cloudy tricomes. Right now I have to think there are a few more weeks to go, but they are getting close. I can't wait to see some amber and get this gild chopped down. I would love to have some of this for Thanksgiving, and to have some cobs ready by Christmas.

I also started the Malawi seed, Hopefully it will be the right size to grow drop in my tent right as this one gets harvested. If this grows bigger the purple I am going to have more weed than I know what to do with!

On the final rush. I think it will be another 2-5 days and I will be chopping. Starting to see a few amber trichs, plant is starting to look a little sickly. Have been watering with .5ml per gallon nutes, drip clean and full dose budXL. Broken stems have no bitter taste, so I thnik she is already pretty flushed. It's amazing that I never fed this plant more than 4ml per gallon of nutes and got this kind of growth. I guess I used maybe a quarter bottle of a&b for the entire run on this monster. Gave a clone to a friend and he is making a mother. I have no extra room for clones, so I am super excited that these genetics are going to stay alive. I'm going to guess that this will give me at least 200 grams of good buds, with maybe another 100 of fluff from below. Going to make a ton of butter from that, and possible some bubble hash. I figure about 2 weeks from now I will be having my first smoke, and a month from there I should have some good jar cure buds.

I went back and checked my seed invoice. It was listed as the PHxMG cross, not the breeders pack version. 3 days from now is the end of 13 weeks, according to my calculations, and I am checking for amber in the mornings and evenings. She is very close, I am going to guess I will be chopping this weekend, but I could be wrong again. Ugh I hate this, the waiting. Must resist the urge to chop until I am sure it is ready.

Got home from work and scoped the plant, it is ready! At least 30% amber, and it was turning quick. She was at maybe 10% on Tuesday. Had to use an electric saw to chop it, and that took about 30 seconds to cut through the stalk. She is upside down in the tent, about 55% humidity. Total days since light flip was 92 days, or almost 13 weeks to the day. the next pics that you will see from this will be the trim party in (hopefully) 7-8 days.

Harvest is in full effect. Here is a sample of some of the colas after the trim. Still have some bag drying to do.

Destemmed everything last night and it is now in a giant container at 65% humidity. 260 grams of smokeable buds, about 100 grams of fluff I will make cobs out of, with leftover and trim going to butter. Good haul from a 2x4 tent on a single plant. Will update with a smoke report in a few weeks.

Here are some pics of the Harvest laid out on the stems and in the Box. Also some of the Malawi cobs that everyone is talking about made a couple of them today. Humidity of holding and the giant tank at 66 - 67% there isn't much smell coming off of them but I hope that through the curing process some good aroma might come out

So it was Purple Haze x Malawi at the end :) Yep, the Malawi dominant pheno of this cross is usually done in aprox 13 weeks of flowering.

Congrats for the abundant harvest and for your excellent growing skills
Looking forward to hear your opinion after a few weeks of curing.

Thank you very much for complete such good grow diary!

Smoke Report

Smoke Report

Hi everyone, back for a little review after a bit in the jars.

Bag Appeal: Big buds, lots of foxtails combined into one. Very dark green, almost brown appearance. Lots of sparkles inside, but looks pedestrian on the outside. Very crispy, while humidity has never gotten below 60%. Calyx are very tight on these. Most people that I know have looked at this and thought it was not very quality smoke. I don't sell, so this matters little to me. Pot needs to be broken up a little to get it to burn well, buds straight off the plant are a little hard to get going. Not sticky in normal hybrid plant way, but if you handle the buds at all you can feel the resin right away. Wonderful in joints.

Smell: I get the spicy smell, and it started to smell a little sweeter after a few weeks in jars. I think this is a long cure smoke, it has definitely gotten better in taste and smell since right after harvest. A little harsh on the throat.

The High: Hang on, you're going to be here a while. I had one joint of this keep myself and a friend ripped for 4 hours. This is not for the inexperienced, as I could see the anxiety monster attack with this. Very up, very edgy sometimes, bounce around for hours, sweaty palms and a good fuzziness in the brain stem. Wow, this is very different from the hybrids I usually grow, with no couchlock at all. Effect is a little less direct in edibles, but I've only made one batch of butter so far, and I plan to increase the amount bud in the next batch. Really, really top shelf buzz. Seriously different from anything I have smoked in 25 years. This will build and build and build on the high the more of it you smoke. Usually get visions after the first round of bong rips, with lovely geometric patterns interrupting reality for a few seconds. Mixed with a couple of drinks this effect comes on quicker.

Comments: Love this stuff, but there is so much of it from the grow that I don't know how I am going to get rid of it all. It's so potent that I have a hard time making it through a gram on a Saturday. I love giving it away to friends that have had my other strains, because I know they get disappointed from the look and smell...they think we're back to the days of brickweed. Then they smoke it and freak out over how good the buzz is. I'm already about 5 weeks into budding the straight Malawi Gold, and if that is stronger than this I might have to stop growing for a bit for having too much stuff! I'd like to see this crossed with a citrus flavored indica for a tastier smoke, but again this still has a lot of time to keep curing. I screwed up the cobs and didn't like the way they looked or smelled, so they got tossed. I'm thinking that if I am still sitting on 150g of this in 4 months I will make RSO out of most of it, just so I have some concentrate to use for edibles. This weed is a sleeper. Its a VW Golf with 700 horsepower. Its the girl in the teen movie that takes off her glasses and gets super hot. Its a soccer mom with a dungeon in her bedroom.

New plant!

New plant!

I'm too lazy to start a new thread, so here are some pics of my straight Malawi, its about 5.5 weeks since showing flower. I flipped to 10.5/13.5 lights on 11/1. I also have a pineapple chunk going in a scrog in the other tent, but that is from another breeder, so I will keep that out of this thread.

This girl is going to have a huge main cola. No topping on this plant, vegged to about 5 nodes before flipping, and I thought it would stretch a lot more than it did. That is OK though, much easier to manage this smaller plant.

Thanks for sharing your grow with us. I have to avoid this forum because of threads like this one. I am not in a position to grow right now and i get so frustrated reading how well you and the rest of the growers here have done.

If you don't mind, would you share with us what went wrong with your cob curing? It's something I'd like to try once i getting a harvest or two under my belt but I'm just worried I'd ruin the flowers somehow.

Take care,

Ona

Hi Ona- It was a combo of many things. I let the plants get a little too dry before jarring, they were at like 65%, and I think they need to be around 70% or a little higher for the sweat. The husks I used might have been a little too moist. When I opened them after a few weeks they stunk of the husks and there was what I suspected to be mold on the tips of the cobs. So they got tossed. I just didn't do it right.
