Another Purple Malawi

Hi wswise,

Thank you very much for starting your grow diary :)
Looks like she is filling up nicely the SCROG!

One question, are you growing Purple Haze x Malawi fem or Malawi Purple pheno ?

This is the fem. With the amount of space I have, I always go with fem seeds.

One can get both in fem. He mean't are you running Purple Haze x Malawi or Purple Malawi which is only available through the breeder packs. I am guessing it's the Purple Malawi pheno from the breeder pack as your title says. Thanks for making a thread with all the helpful information regarding this strain.

Oh! I thought that they were both the same breed, not different crosses. This was labled as "purple malawi".

It's really starting to show buds today, looking like a proper lady. I was hearing some others saying that it took 2-3 weeks to even show flower, I started seeing white hairs after 8 days of 11.25/12.75. Maybe this one will finish faster than expected. Fingers crossed.

Morning pictures. Lots of stretch still, only about 2 feet of space left in the tent!

Thanks for clarifying it is indeed a Purple Malawi. They are growing quite nicely. If she stretches to much you can always pull all the tops apart and bend em down with ties so it gives you another 6 inches or more. Purple Malawi is by far the quickest of any of the Malawi lines. It will finish within 11 weeks.

"Purple Malawi (P2): This is the mother of our Violeta hybrid. It's a colorful rare pheno found in the first Malawi feminized release. It's more compact than the green Malawis, but still displaying an excellent branching, and accepts the Nitrogen better. It's an interesting pheno due to its shorter flowering time of 10-11 weeks, for having a unique balsamic/fruity terpene profile, for showing a better resistance against cold and mildew, and of course for its intense purple and reddish colors at maturation. It's not so strong like killer Malawi parental plants, but without any doubt the effect is also very interesting, kinder and not so agressive. This is the line where you can look for the more colorful Malawis, with shorter flowering times and better adaptability to colder climates."

Thank you very much for the heads up. I got the seed from Herbies, and it did not have the description. I was reading on the ace threads and the Malawi and Purple Malawi seemed to be the route I wanted to go...but I was reading about the OTHER strain. LOL! It's Ace gear and that is all I care about!

SO I will shorten up my schedules and see what happens. At 11 weeks it will take away a month of my plan away, and that is a good thing. Thank you Dr.King.

Now on to a little bit of info on the grow. This girl is very thirsty. I did my fill today at 8 gallons into the tank, and I lowered the nutrients. I did 30ml of A/B and 3.5ml of drip clean and that is all. I was getting just a bit of burn on the new tips from a 4ml per gallon mix so I backed it off a bit. Showing 375ppm on my TDS meter. That is crazy light compared to what I am used to with hybrids, at this point I would normally be at double the nutes...but she is drinking twice as much water as my hybrids did. I have a straight indica in my other tent that is still in veg that is running 5ml per gal! 2 gallons a day of water is going in right now, I am afraid that she will get even more thirsty. This means I have to test the limits of tank, hence I will see how long these 8 gallons take to go down.

Temps have been up a little. Here in Cascadia the weather has been very mild, highs in the mid 70's, then all of a sudden the temp jumps 10 degrees and its over 85 in the tent. Hopefully that is only for a little bit, I am usually home by 5 so maybe 2 hours of it being too hot before I get the AC running. right now it is back in the 70's. With all the water, there has been a little higher humidity at night, peaking as high as 64%. I am turning up the exhaust fan at night for this reason. Over 60% is a no go in my tents, I have been attacked by the rot before, and I never want to see conditions where it can grow. Under 50 is where I love to be.

Stretch? Huge. A foot a week. New light is killing it. Tops are somewhat even. I will not trim or lollipop. Roots coming out of the coco in a mountain. Everything is looking hunky-dory. I am excited for this grow. I have friends that I want to impress, and I need quality smoke for the coming winter. I just hope everything continues like it is.

Any questions? Ask away! And thank you again Dr.King.

Anytime man. I like to but this is myself running 60-65% humidity during the day and night never changing. Seems like it keeps the roots a lot happier and they don't dry out as quickly. The only way I would recommend this is by running fans at every corner of your tent so every part of the plant is getting great air flow 24/7 non stop. Which we all know wind moves humidity around easily so with a good carbon filter and booster you can get rid of humidity fast. We have also all seen the recent science on how higher levels of humidity consistently even in flower makes the plant happier so the end result is that much better. One just needs consistent 75-78 degree temps, 60-65% humidity with a ton of air movement.

This also being a nearly pure landrace sativa it can easily handle high humidity and high heat. In turn the yield, terps, trich production and everything else will raise quite a noticeable amount. Just my opinion but I know it completely changed the high/yield of my Zamaldelica(keeper). Popped one Zamaldelica fem, it turned out all mango/carrot with a crazy up high effect that keeps you up and moving like you just finished drinking Caveman coffee(which has over 400mg of caffeine each cup). After I drink coffee I have to mix Zamal with my sleeping weed Chemdog or it's like massive Adderall. Sorry just a side note on how great ZD is :).

All that being said I am sure you will love these genetics as every single strain from Ace I have done has been beautiful. Best of luck man, you are doing a great job.

Long day at work, so I only got to look at the lady for a moment before lights out. The blumat is dripping as fast as possible. almost 4 gallons in 48 hours. zowie.

I also have been looking the ACE site and zal fem. Not sure if they ship directly to the USA as they say on the site they only ship to places where seeds are legal. I mean, I live in a legalized state named after a former president, but there are layers to the laws, man. If I place an order its not gonna be much, maybe 3-5 seeds. I am as small time as small time gets. I grow for flavor, fun, buzz and pain relief from a bucket handle ACL tear.

So gonna veg the blue thai for another 7-10 days and its getting flipped. If that goes 9 weeks then it might be a double harvest, but it could finish early too I need to pop the Malawi I do have and a few more indicas later in the fall, so I have been looking at a seedling tent to pop beans and keep clones. I'm glad I have a job to afford the stuff I buy, I realize the amount of work it must take to run a commercial operation, and the need to turn and burn weed. This growing thing is addicting, and I'm pretty happy playing around with a plant or two to make the best weed I can.

Pics are of the roots, the ghetto scrog net (I love this stuff!) and a top. you can see the nute burn at the tips, I can't stress enough how little nutes she wants.

Ace ships to the USA. I live in a USA state where seeds are not legal and did not have a problem. They were a pleasure to deal with and very prompt with shipping. Highly recommended.

Time for another update. everything is cruising along fine. backed off the nutes another .25ml per gallon as she is still burning at the tips. roots are getting even bigger. internode length is short and it looks like there are going to be some big buds on this one. I'm losing a lot of the lower leaves, its almost like the plant is self lollipopping. I'm talking like 40-50 fans every couple of days. Going to start the BudXL in about another 2 weeks. As always, some pics are posted here for the record.

Changed the tank today, lowered the nutes again. A&B are at 3ml per gallon now, I was starting see some advance to the tip burn on the leaves. Started 3.7ml per gallon of bud xl. most of the taller tops are starting to grow together, this thing could have 12 inch colas on like 10 tops if I can get them fattened up. Hope the bud xl works on these like it has my hybrid grows, because this could really, really produce. Seeing some of the lower level buds having light hair browning, but nothing like that on the tops. This is day 41 from light switch, day 34 of noticeable budding.

I am starting to think that the seed is the original purple haze x malawi gold. It just feels like the thing has another 8-10 weeks to go, but we will see. This seed came in an ace branded package, looks like the attached picture, and it said "purple malawi" on the outside. Of course I threw away the original, this one is the malawi, but exactly the same. I don't think they ever put the breeders pack purple malawi into individual packages, maybe Dubi can confirm.

HI HO its off to work we go

Things are well. Plants stopped stretching right before running into the lights. Buds are starting to get heavy so I broke out the yo-yo's. Bud XL is working it's magic. Things are getting a hint of smell. Still feel like it is going to be another 6 weeks minimum, but we will see. I am ready for the fattening.

wswise, Just read the thread. Very detailed report thank you. My watering is much less scientific and regulated. I fill 5 gallon water jugs for storage and water out of a 2 gallon galvanized water pot. I try to cover 3 to 4 plants per pot full. I need to refine this method. I over water at times. Best of luck... Peace

They are looking great man. Probably another 6-8 weeks it looks like. How far are they away from the lights? Just interested because my last round of Zamaldelica 2 tops got too close and caused tip burning/bleaching. Only two small spots but 6 inches is too close even with fans going at max speed. Need atleast 8 inches in my opinion if you have got fans blow at the top of your colas. I would add a fan in two of those corners, if you can only obtain one it's better than nothing. The two corners the fairest apart if you can get two, just my opinion in trying to help another grower so their long hard work doesn't get messed up in anyway :). Best of luck to you man.

the biggest top is within 6 inches, but I have that top not in direct beam. all the rest are between 8-16". Don't have a choice but to do it this way, its

Here are a few more pics, everything is looking OK. Not pleased with the leaf burn, but you live and you learn.

So it's 9 weeks in. Starting to see some oragne hairs, but it is still at least 80% white hairs. Buds are swelling strongly, and some are starting to foxtail. Leaves are starting to lose a little color, and I am going to add some bloombastic to the mix tomorrow on the feeding. Only going to hit it with one dose, and then I am going to back off the nutes even more. Need to get a new loupe for resin checks, I'm thinking this has to be the final stretch. Not seeing any purple, and not sure it will be cold enough to force it. Feels like she is only 3-4 weeks out

Hi wswise,

Looking very nice :) You are doing a great job with your Malawi indoors.
With such flower development at 10 weeks I highly doubt it's a purple haze x malawi,
the flower in your last post looks close to be done, although upper colas could still be reflowering a bit, producing fresh pistils.

If you got the seeds directly from us kindly send me a pm or email with the reference number of your order and i will check back what it was sent.

Kind regards
