Another Purple Malawi

This is my 8th grow and I am finally popping an Ace bean. I purchased a fem PM and a fem Malawi for the run after this. In order to prep for the long flower, I grew 3 plants prior so I had at least a 5 month supply of personal. I finished a candy kush, blue widow and amherst sour diesel in May and got about 230 grams, and while those were flowering, I germed the PM seed in a rapid rooter.

I have been tent growing for about 3 years now, and I am able to get some good harvests in limited space using the coco/blumat/scrog combination. I was growing under 2 area 51 RW75 LED lights, and I have now added a Tasty LED single COB into the mix, so i think I will have enough light for this one plant.

I use H&G A/B, silica, a couple shots of cal mag through veg. In flower I add bud-xl and bloombastic as the PK boost.

This is the first time growing a pure sativa, so I am trying to plan out as much as possible for stretch, long flower, environmental needs and anything else I can think of. I have been planning this grow for a while! I don't know if the scrog will be a positive or a negative, but in indicas and hybrids it seems to double my output, so why not? If the scrog hinders this grow, I will have the straight malawi to grow through the winter in my main tent after this, so I will grow that on a mainline if the scrog doesn't live up to the hype. Tent is a 2'X4'X7'. 400cfm fan to pull air.

The plan is to fill the scrog net for another 2 weeks, then take clones from all the uneven growth to get to a flat plane. I have already pulled a couple of clones off of this plant, one of the easiest plants to clone that I've run across. Then I will let the plant recover for a week, then into 11/13 for the next 13-20 weeks. Hoping to have cured bud sometime between thanksgiving and the holidays.

I also have a grow of some dinafem blue thai going in my smaller tent as a backup, will scrog that and harvest probably before I chop this one!

I have one other concern and that is the low humidity I run. I average about 40-48% humidity through my grows, I got the rot a couple of times in the past and now I keep humidity in this range to be sure it never starts up again. I do not use pesticides or herbicides. Wondering if it being too dry might hurt my final weight.

OK that is it for now, I will update more as I fill and trim.

Sounds like a good plan the Malawi scrogged will do you proud as you seem to know what you are doing. I will be following this with bated breath. Best of luck.

lookin good. great idea for a scrog netXD

I had built a PVC frame for my 30"x30" tent, and will reuse it on the blue thai. But for a 2'x4' the PVC option was looking like 40 bucks, and a 50 foot roll of temp fence is like 18 bucks delivered. and it's 4' so it fit perfectly in there, and I have enough to do 25 grows

Thanks! I've been seeing your name on these threads and hopefully remembered some of the tips I've seen you give out. Ultimate goal of this grow is to make some cobs! I've been talking about making them with a few of my friends that grow and they all think I'm crazy wrapping bud in corn husks! Maybe I can have them ready for new years!

So you bought a old killer Malawi or a new killer Malawi? I just popped a purple, fruity, old and new Malawi. I also have a Malawi fem breeders pack on the way. Also have 5 other Malawi crosses growing. Malawi crazy:biggrin:

Not sure, but I think it is the old seed. Fem just says Malawi on the front, dated 11/18/14 on the back. The rest is in Espanol.

Nice idea if you get it anywhere near right I would like to be a fly on the wall when they try the cob ha ha, I like seeing people loose their composure! You can play tricks on them to freek them out ha ha. As long as their seasoned smokers if not they might need a hospital ha ha.

I've got around 30%humidity and haven't had any problems with purple haze Malawi. My biggest mistake with my first pure sativa grow was too much nitrogen. Second run I added a third more sand and some peat to my mix and they are much healthier looking this time.

Just a quick update. Veg is going good, but I have already had to chop down about 8 tops, I want more of the plant growth going to the main stalk, and it seems to be working. Drinking about a gallon of water a day, my 4 gallon tank fill has 12ml A&B, 2ml drip clean, 2ml roots accelerator, and 4ml silicon. tips are just barely browned, almost can't tell nless you are looking for that burn. Stalk is turning into a trunk. Everything on pace for a July 1st flip to 13/11, just have to figure out if I want the lights on at night or during the day. The tents are in a loft, and it gets hot upstairs in the summer, but I have a window a/c and my intake draws close to that. Was able to keep the tent at 81f during a mini heatwave, outside was 95 and the loft was close to that.

Zed, we have a bug.

Zed, we have a bug.

damn it, damn it, damn it. Seeing bugs in my roots for the first time ever. Super tiny, I am pretty sure they are soil mites. They are "supposed" to be beneficial, but I am still going to worry about this. I can see them when I put some water on the roots, and I see a couple crawling on the blumat. Was able to suck one up in a water droplet and get a picture. You can see how tiny these are.

I've never had any bug problems other than the occasional gnat, and now these. Hoping it turns out OK like everything that I have read suggests. I see no sign of any damage to the plant, and there are no signs of these anywhere except in my coco. If you have any advice, now it the time to give it!

checked them out under a 60x scope, and they are soil mites I'm 95% sure. Still not going to stop me from freaking out for the next 2 weeks. Bloom starts July 1st.

Everything going well, no problems from the bugs either. She had her first 12.75 hours of dark last night, so let the blooming begin. Will have some pics soon, I am going to take one every day before lights off to show the growth progression. Gave her the last shot of silicone at 1.5ml/gal with a 4.25ml/gal of A&B. Stopped the roots excel, they are coming out of the top of the coco already. Figuring out when I will need to start the budXL and when to PK. If growth is vigorous without showing signs of burn I will up A&B only to 5ml/gal for at least a week. She is drinking about a gallon a day right now, and I expect this to go up.

Didn´t get it, it is an Purple Haze x Malawi, right ?
If so expect about 6 weeks stretch if you grow from seed.

Thanks for sharing :)

I have a purple Malawi going also. How many weeks is the expected bloom time on these? Same as the new killer malawis?

From what I understand this is a 13-16 week bloom, at the long end if it's the haze pheno. From what I see I believe this seed is Malawi forward, so I have hopefully 13 to 14 weeks. Still a long time!

Hi wswise,

Thank you very much for starting your grow diary :)
Looks like she is filling up nicely the SCROG!

One question, are you growing Purple Haze x Malawi fem or Malawi Purple pheno ?

Here are some photos of the stretch, from 7-4 through 7-16
