With a bubbler you also have more water vapor near the plants, which helps greatly with water evap from the leaves.

But as everyone says, whatever works best for you is the way you should be doing it. When I get some spare time I have a couple new methods I want to try.....

Thats a good link you have that i posted for all.

THANKS.

CHRIS.

Its right, whatever works for you is a fair comment. there are various ways to Clone, the easiest way ive found to date is the Bubbleclone method, use decent water, & keep the water temp in the low 80's with a cheap aquarium stick heater & once you have a decent root mass, after 7-10 days at the most, add a little h2o2 to sterilise & kill any potential pathogens, & Voila, its a piece of piss, soo easy, no misting plants, domes etc, you definately dont need humidity around the upper part of the plant with this method as all the humidity is where its needed, around the root-stem. I told a buddy last year who has done quite a few successfull grows & he's a cracking little grower but he aint done alot with cloning, he came to me, i explained this method to him in 5 mins flat, & 7 days later he had some lovely rooted clones. He said to me he couldnt believe how simple the method was & thanked me.
It does come back to whatever works for individual circumstances, there are many viable methods but Bubblecloning has to be one of the easiest as its 95% maintainance free, set it & forget it. you dont even have to PH anything, just Add decent water & your off!
Personally id only listen to people who have first hand experience in the methods that are being conveyed. Whichever way you choose to Clone i wish you the best of Luck.
Peace.......Scroger!

Hey all,

I was just wondering if anyone else has had as many failed clone attempts as myself. Of course I've read so many of the tutorials both from JJ here, and in books and all over.

I guess I am just having shitty luck. Or perhaps I should buy some superthrive or a bucket and try some of the more difficult looking cloning techniques. I guess I"m just curious about the experienced folk out there & if they may have had a lot of fails before the wins?

Peace.:ying:

getting cuts to survive is all about balance: you need enough and the right color light to stimulate root growth, but not too much or the plant wilts and dies.
You need enough moisture present so the plant stays turgid, but not so much as to encourage rot or damping off, also roots GROW LOOKING for water, so if you have too much, you actually slow root growth.
You need enough nutrients to develop roots from a cut stem, but if you have too much, or the PH is off even by a little, the roots don't SEEK and grow, and the cuttings stall.

I keep my clones in the bathroom, so I'm looking at them several times a day, and that I think is the key, watching, and reacting,....constantly.

I can clone with any method now: rapid rooters, straight coco, rockwool cubes, floral foam, vermiculite, peat, perlite, and obviously bubble and aero cloners, etc,... but with each method there was a learning curve at first, and I lost a high % at the start. (except the bubble and aero, those the curve is pretty low: you get the solution right and at the right temp, and KEEP it that way: cloners work, and FAST)

I also STILL have trouble when the weather gets very warm, or very cold, so if you are having big temp swings, that will be a problem for even seasoned cloners.

keep at it, keep reading cloning threads, try and LEARN from the mistakes, remember what works for Jim, might NOT work for Bill, so keep trying different mediums, and if you haven't yet, try straight coco as your cloning medium, it is very forgiving, allows some neglect, it holds a ton of BOTH air and water even when completely saturated, and has a very high success rate especially with new growers, it's just a little slow, but very dependable.

cloning is like learning to ride a bicycle backwards, at first you fall a lot, and just can't do it, but with more practice it gets easier, till one day you wonder why you ever had so much trouble.

keep at it.

Wow. Thanks a lot for the help everyone.

I have to admit that I got a bit of a laugh from various points of views; however, it seems one thing is common.

"whatever works for you"

Awesome help, and site/community.

I would rep all if I could!

Peace.

I still have problems with my cloning :chin: prolly around a 50% rate, which is good enough i guess. I do pop alot of seeds though to keep the room full = lots of variety :smoweed:

Yeah,

You all rock! Soon as I get my "points" of rep back - people here deserve some rep! Love the community!

Peace.

EDIT: loving seeing Jerry Bear's ! Rock on man.

Peace.

invest in some power clone. keep your room cool. :) If you can't keep your room cool, my hubby says hydro doesn't work as well at higher temps as soil does. power clone makes everything really easy, though. doesn't matter where you cut the clones from off the plant, doesn't matter if it's a strain that doesn't like to clone well, doesn't matter if you wash your hands in between every clone or all the other sterile methods my hubby used to try. power clone makes it easy. if you can't afford power clone, we have found that clonex is virtually as good, but it takes a week or so longer to root.

Well things are looking up

Well things are looking up

Just want to say thanks for the replies and opinions on cloning.

I thought the results *even with low population to survey* show that I'm not at all alone.

I've decided to give every damn one a chance and see which works best for me! I've got a bunch of supplies and some to get yet. Mature enough plants would be a start.. I let impatience beat me down and threw my first batch into 12/12 a few weeks ago; before making any cuts. I NEED meds!!

Fortunately someone else hooked me up with some clones & a friend donated a wild amount of viable seeds. Even a pack of Nirvana Chrystal to play with. Things are great!

Peace.:smoweed:

wow, u guys are all high-tek with this stuff...

I'm super simple:

Ingredients:

1. tall clone moms - lil bushy is best
2. clonex
3. ph'd water - gallon or more
4. dome setup
5. rockwool cubes - either 1x1, 1.5x1.5, or 2x2
6. organicare seaplex in the ph'd mix i soak my rockwool cubes in
7. razor blade / ultra sharp knife
8. 45 minutes.

The rest of em

I use ph 5.8-6.2 or so, just you wait till you see how big and busy those moms get - when this batch roots it's time for an even bigger second batch - either bigger each & same # of clones, or bigger # of clones period.

The tray has the insert you can see with the little square areas, there's some water underneath, but tonight i'm going to 'fill' the area under them with perlite only - autowick, keeps the underneath's wet nicely - not had this insert to play with before *shrugs*

And that's 4x23w twisty cfl 5500k bulbs powering the moms + clones.

I'll try to remember to update when there's roots. Just took this batch a few hrs ago, documented for a friend lol.

Biggest bestest advice i can give on roots?
look to see em popping from all sides but top
i like to see 50 little uns popping out or so - thats 'well rooted' - longest roots are typically 1.5-4" and then they can be transplanted.

super easy, cheap. 95% success! (100 actually)

super easy, cheap. 95% success! (100 actually)

ive cloned every way in the book! aero cloning was my first success story but recently ive been trying to simplify my grow, from clone to flower.
Super easy method i just went with....
100% Vermiculite!
cheap ass rooting powder!
any thing you can put the vermi in, like half a styro cup, ice trays, shit fill a shoe box lined with plastic and put a bunch of cuts in it, anyway it doesnt matter what holds the vermi and the clone.
cut the clone/s and put in a cup of tap water or ro water whatever, no need to ph.
dip clone stem in powder
place in dry vermiculite
wet the vermiculite
press it down around stem
place 2 ft from flourecent shop light. (mines the 2 x4' bulbs)
room temp
wet maybe once if any wilt is noticed, that should last the entire time if temps are mid 70s.

i check em in 10 days and they are pretty good to go.

Amen to that brother. I do it the exact same way. 100% all the time. I have to use a dome though. Even with a humidifier it is hard to get my RH above 20%. I take 10 clones every week and keep the best trash the rest. My system requires consistant clones. Not much room for error.

hell, i dont even check the RH lol. or the temp for that matter. its always a lil warmer cause its in a closet with the light on 24/7 so i know its not cooler then my home(mid to low 70s) .
i cut about 15 to 20 a week as well. keeping the best 12 to 16. finally start harvesting weekly in 2 weeks!!

I thankfully had a bit of experience under my belt by the time I started doing my own clones, got an aerocloner and have had 100% so far. Though not all of them end up worthy of moving on. But I have yet to lose them in the cloner.

I don't have it in me to read the rest of the thread, as it seems to be just turning into a "he said, she said" moment, but I must say, when I followed JJ's technique, it revolutionized cloning for me.... suddenly, I was getting nearly 100% (okay, 95 to 99%) success... screw the cloning machine, I'm bringing mine in for consignment after one use, there's just no need. JJ's technique works, plain and simple.

FK

P.S. And I'm sure there are 100's of other ways that work too, but I can just vouch for this one! And that the EZCloner did not work (for me!)

There is only one correct way to clone and that's whatever way gives you the roots you need. That said, dangerously high RH is bad for the plant, easily avoided, and a clear indication of trouble elsewhere in your system. Clones can root dome free in RH as low as 15%.

Dangerous levels of RH are generally required due to excessive plant material. The larger the cut, the more roots it needs and... D'OH, some @#$% stole our roots!

Too much vs just enough...

While I had 100% success at rooting, dome weaning would kill 60% or more. Since placing the dome in the trash and avoiding lethal levels of RH, I haven't lost a cut in years.

If you need a dome, keep the dome but, if you try without, you may find you have both increased success and much less work.

Well, I will have to disagree a little. In my very precise testing environment and after about 7 months of testing, low humidity was the last roadblock to success in my tests. My testing was done with coco, rock wool, rapid rooters, and areocloning. My RH was in the 28-37% RH in my failed control groups. Only changing the RH to 90%+ for the first 7 days brought roots.

my RH is maintained between 40 and 60 percent(i dont fuck with it, its just that way around my house). i have roots in 10 to 14 days. I might wet the vermiculite one time after the initial wetting, and thats it. to easy and humidity doesnt seem to be a major factor. .o2$
