There's a log jam on that there screen

There's a log jam on that there screen

gaiusmarius...Right on man..baggin is tedious work, but worth it in the end..
I checked out the different grades under the mini microscope and what I found seemed
to explain why the 25 & 73 were more rock-like and the 45 was softer...
I found different glandular build ups in each...The 73 had lots of trichome stems and more veg matter than the 45..
The 45 had lots of intact mushroom shaped glands and heads..much less veg..
The 25 was very clean but almost no heads or intact glands..Conclusion...
I believe the collection of heads and intact glands are much softer and sappier than the stems...
The stems that made it to the 25 screen did so going though the mesh vertically like a needle into fabric...
many got horizontally stuck on the other screens but with less contaminants on the 73..
The ones with heads could not make it through the 45 with the stain used..so results could vary with strain...
That's my theory and I stickin to it... :chin:

DancesWithWeed...You do not speak with forked tongue Kemosabe...
I'm still not sure about the amount of bags..I did a 4 bag run with the 220, 120, 73, & 25...
The results were more tokable amounts from the 25 & 73 but more contaminated as well..
I think you lose a decent amount of glands on the upper screens but the final screens have cleaner hash with more bags..
More glands overall with less screens, but it's not as clean...that's the toss-up..

DiscoBisquick...it is a definite good way to process trim for a fine treat..I'm still tokin on all the hash balls I posted here...

THCTECH...In the US you just don't see hash anymore like the 70's and 80's..have to make your own treats..

Fat Puta ..Yeah it does..gonna have some now after talking about it so much :kos:

Thanks everyone for stoppin by this old thread..the info still holds true..

Nice thing about bubble is there's no chemicals involved!

Use a spray bottle of cold water to wash your trichs to the center of the mesh. Something good... about that smell of freshly made bubble.

Spray bottle sounds like a great idea...definitely gonna try that next time...
Containment is the hardest part of the whole process..
Right on...thanks for the tip sbhydro1..and nice blond bubble you got there..

ok, im a total newb when it comes to hash making...

can someone explain how the bubble bags work? I just rread this whole thread and i don't get it...

you have 1 bucket, and 7 layers of bags in that 1 bucket? each bag is a screen of various micros, 25, 45, 73, 140 ,220 etc etc

so you just drop in a big wad of (frozen) trim into the top bag and somehow it gets washed through to the bottom layers? add water and ice? huh?

And can you keep adding and adding and adding trim to the top bag to increase your hash "harvest" at the end? I ask becuase I have probably a few pounds of trim i have been saving, and yeah.. this is dangerous and im about ready to throw it all away, but would love to use some bubble bags and make hash, as i have intended to do for a year now.....

Neptune..
It will be another 6 weeks before I'm ready to do another run..but yeah that's the reason I got the bags..hated throwing out all those trichomes..
Basically the main idea is to keep the process as cold as possible..so the glands stay intact and not sticky..also so they easily break away from the veg matter..
I use the bubbleman bubblebag method..here's the instruction site http://www.bubblebag.com/instructions/

Some agitate in a separate bucket and then pour though..
Me:
  • install bags into bucket stacked 25 first 220 last (the work bag)
  • pour ice water into bucket till it covers all screens(not much ice yet)
  • add frozen trim
  • pour ice on top
  • add water as needed (I keep a level so I can rest the mixer on the edge)
  • agitate 20 mins
  • stir with a wood spoon to free up stuck glands(the glands will sink..most veg will float)
  • pull bags one at a time keeping the rest in the cold water and start collecting
  • dry & maybe compress
  • toke & smile

Some don't use a mixer..just the wood spoon to make real clean bubble..I only toke the stuff off the 25, 45, 73 screens..
Collection is the hardest part..corralling up the trichomes..and getting them to the drying screens or cardboard..
sbhydro1's tip on the ice water in a spray bottle might make that part a lot easier..currently I pull the bag above the water..
and use some of the bubble water to move trichs around the screen into a pile..then use a metal spoon to scoop um up..
If you can keep the water cold..then sure you can run a few batches before you collect..
you don't want glands on the screen to get too warm..warm=sticky
You would just clean out the 220 work bag..put it back in the bucket..lower water back to just above screen by bailing..
and more frozen trim..more ice and on till you're ready to collect..so far the 45 micron screen has stopped the most intact trichomes..fairly clean..
The 25 is finer but I find trich heads don't usually make it past the 45..
The amount of bags you use depends on the quality you're lookin for..more bags..the sooner you stop the contams from getting though..
Hope this and the link help some..Bubblebag kits come with drying screens

Well I had no idea how to make this stuff, and now I do, due to the pictures. Thanks man! Hopefully one day I could make this stuff.

Great tutorial. Reinforces my own use and techniques. Mostly. I use snow from a snow cone machine to keep the water cold after several runs - though I still use ice cubes - the snow seems to penetrate more, as my yields are a bit higher with snow. Therefore shorter runs and a better product. Or so my theory goes. :chin:

I too use a wooden spoon for some runs and the bubbleator for others. It depends on the quality of the input material. The better stuff gets the wooden spoon.

XxJ03YxX - Even if you only get the 1 gallon 8-bag set, go for it. Worth every penny. Heck, you get your money back with the first run or two. :yummy:

XxJ03YxX..Right on mang..If you're gonna grow..you have to do something with the trim...
Some like hash so much..they grow to make hash..using lot's of bud material..
I got the bags just for processing trim and get a treat not that widely found in the states anymore..
This forum has a few extremest around that really get into it and produce some killer stuff..who knows maybe one day.. :chin:
In a few more weeks I'll be ready to run the bags again..

Keefhead..Thanks man..Missed your post while typing..Thanks for the input..snow you say :chin:
Yeah that would cool it real fast..so much surface area touching water..then cubes for sustained cool and agitation..sounds good to me..

I recommend pressing earlier than later in the drying process..5 months later the stuff I compressed only about 16hrs after drying on the cardboard..and it is still soft and pliable to this day..the stuff I waited longer to compress was and still is hard as a rock..

Do you compress it by working it with your hands, or do you use a hash press?

And yes, the snow seems to help. I use a carnival-size snow cone machine, and make about 5 lbs at a time. A little cherry syrup, and you got a sno-cone to eat while stirring.

And talk about cold water . . .

Keefhead..usually just by hand..have used a makeshift press..
I should be doing a another run in about 2 weeks..maybe a few runs..
A cherry snowcone sounds good right now.. :chin:

making water hash

making water hash

NEVER SQUEEZE OR PRESS YOUR TRICOMES WHILE THEY ARE WET. YOU SHOULD SUCK THE WATER OUT, BY USING PAPER TOWELS OR KITCHEN SHAMIS. PLACE THE BAGS WITH THE WET SANDY TRICOMES IN THE BAG ON TOP OF A STACK OF PAPER TOWELS AND LET THE WATER BE SUCKED OUT INSTEAD OF PRESSING THE WATER OUT,THIS IS VERY BAD FOR QUALITY. AND SINCE YOU ARE USING A HAND MIXER, YOU SHOULD USE 2 220U AND 2 160U BAGS TO HELP PROTECT YOUR 120 AND ON FROM CONTAMINATION.
REMEMBER TO ALWAYS RINSE YOUR TRICOMES WITH CLEAN WATER WHILE THEY ARE STILL IN THE BAG BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DRY YOUR TRICOMES.

CHECK OUT JORGE CERVENATES NEW BOOK FOR GOOD UPADATED TIPS ON MAKING WATER EXTRACTION HASH..........

DOUBLE YOUR 220 AND 160 BAGS FOR BETTER QUALITY

DOUBLE YOUR 220 AND 160 BAGS FOR BETTER QUALITY

YOU SHOULD ALWAYS TRY AND DOUBLE YOUR BAGS ON TOP FOR LESS CONTAMINATION

220U
220U
190U
190U
160U
160U
120U
73U
45U
25U

AND IF POSSIBLE RINSE ALL BAGS OVER ANOTHER BUCKET WITH A 25U ON BOTTOMA AND A 160U ON TOP, THIS WAY YOU CAN COLLECT ALL THE TRICOMES THAT ARE PUSHED THROUGH THE SCREENS WHILE RINSING THE DIRTY WATER AWAY!! GUARANTEED TO INCREASE TRICOME HARVEST YEILDS BY 2 TO 3 PERCENT.

keefhead.. I'll do pics for sure..

ilife..whew..that's alot of bags..I'm gonna tweak a few things on this run..and normally I like to just let them air dry on the pressing screen which are on a towel..then I just crumble it on cardboard or paper plate to dry the rest of the way..
I tried pressing on the last run though..seemed senseless..
