BackCountry, Those poor plants should have had gills Brother every picture had more water on them than the previous. Everyone take testiment to the hardyness of this strain OR95 when ohter plants would have been complete brown mush this strain sucked it up like liquid sunshine.
Hlgrg, Great set up, how do you like the grow bags? I have been thinking about those for a while now but haven't herd much about them, are they durable, do they fall over when they get dry?
I'm Baaaaaack! I was able to backup all my important shit, and reformatted my hard drive. Nothing like a fresh reformat! Anyways, thanks to all helped out and who gave a shit! I'll get some fresh pics up here soon, the girls are buddin' away! Once again, thanks to those who helped out!
Take another look at the diagram, if you notice, the blue and red arrows show air flow through the cab. The air comes in through the back of the cab, it is sucked through two 3"ABS pipes located on the floor of the cab. I used the pipes so the fresh air comming in exits from them at the front of the cab, and is sucked diagonaly across/through the plant canopy, to the fan located in the top-rear of the cab.
Good luck man! Closet growing is heaps of fun once you have the stuff dialed in.
Some updated pics of the Beast and its green contents. The girls are really blowin' up! Finding new bud sites almost everyday, a few more weeks til payday
Check it out! ...
This pic is pretty cool, it shows a little 'cove' of 4 tops in the center. Just interesting to me. Looks cool in person!
Freeze!
Until next time folks, same channel, maybe a different time but at some point. Hehe, Keep It Green!
Lookin good guys! Cant wait to see em ripen up, I ll be right here watchin
How many weeks you had them in there ? You mentioned putting them into 12/12 right after rooting, was that just the clones or the whole batch? How many plants you got in the tupperware bins?
The plants, which are seed grown were started in mid-late Novermber, under CFL's. We started with 10 plants and ended up with only 2 females. Back average, I know. But now we have more clones from them than we know what to do with. About the second week of January, when the Beast was completed, they were moved in there under one 150w HPS, as you know. We have just completed a new dial 150w HPS air-cooled hood. New pics below. We are now in the process of Beast Jr. Basically that will allow us to expand the Beast as well and have almost 2 operations going at one. Check out the new pics, everything looks great and works well also! Dig it....
Here is a pic of the plumbing. The hood is connected to the fan which now sucks its air across the bulbs cooling them, traveling to through the fan, up through the carbon filter, and out the back.
Say Cheese!
Well folks, that's the latest. Let us know what your think. We'll keep y'all updated. Life's a garden, dig it?
I like the light, very nice - brightens the little beauties nicely . Props on that one Is the Beast Jr. gonna have one 150w hps?
What sort of ballast system you using?
The ballast system is just your standard security light ballast. The Beast Jr, so far, will be equiped with one 70w HPS and a bunch of flouro's. This could change depending on what we think would be better, but for now thats the plan.Until next time....
Thanx lord fatwa! It seems to be working nicely. I still have more work making room for all the pipes and such going every each way.
The next crop will be more seed grown plants, we attempting to find more good females to clone from. In the meantime, beast JR will have a small 70w SCROG in its upper portion, and a section for mothers, and cloning.
After the 2nd seed grown crop, we will be using all clones. I am planning on trying a plantlet Sea of Green at that point, I also want to experiment with a pearlite or lavarock based ebb and flow. This is part of the reason I put my 2nd 150 in this cab, for canopy penetration.
I want to get things timed so that the SCROG and SOG harvest at the same time. both harvests will be hung in the Beast(SR.), with the light off and the fan on, providing a cool, dark, low humidity, and low odor method of growing.
Once the SCROG is harvested, its space will be used to veg clones for the next SOG, which will start a week later. I'll experiment and see what I can do on the timing.
3town and I used this sunny day to get work don on the 2nd box, dubbed "Beast Jr.". This box serve both as a support cab for the original, and will have its own 1.75 sq ft SCROG in the top section.
For now we will use both sections blooming, the new seed grown plants will be put in there when I am done cloning them. Males will killed, along with their clones, and the females will be bloomed to finish, and evaluated to find the right clones for when this machine starts rolling. We will be looking for a short stout, easy to clone collection of mothers for the SOG. And some viney ones to fill the SCROG. The bottom area will be spilt with a shelf when the plants are done, and the aero-cloner and new mother plants will each get their own shelf. The cloner shelf will also act as a staging area for freshly rooted clones, before they move on to SOG or SCROG.
We got the main shell built, and I have put the first coat of Martha Stewart brand Flat bright white latex paint on. The damaged can cost $5.
After a 2nd coat, I will start working on the ventilation, the Carbon scrubber, the HPS hood/CFL sockets, and fianally the door.
It will be sweet when every thing is up and running
As far as your carbon scrubber goes, where would one be able to grab a bag of that activated carbon? I wandered around LOWES for about an hour without no luck, then again my lowes doesn't even sell vermiculite. I saw filters with activated carbon in them (just looked like a normal filter but black), but I'm guessing that wouldn't be as cheap/effective as just tossing a large amount of the bagged stuff in.
Nice design, I'm modifying the airflow in my box based off of what you've shown.
Moltar-Punch up "Activated Carbon" in yahoo shopping, or go to your local pet/aquarium super store. Its primary use is in water filters for aquariums.
I bought my bag online, it was 5lbs for $40, if you go to a shop, or Wal-mart, you will pay even more per pound.
Another method I saw folks on OG using was replacing the Carbon with special types of "super" Kitty litter, the ones with all the crystals in them. I guess some folks claim they will work for a few crops(not as long as Carbon will), so I think I will experiment with that on Beast Jr. Hell I can always order more Carbon.
I'm not too sure how effective the carbon impregnated filter elements are, but I am sure they won't work near as well as real activated Carbon.
klaze-Thanx man! Beast Jr is about 4' 8" tall. The Carb. scrubber is 8" of it, much more compact than the Beasts. Beast Jr. is 22" wide, and 12" deep. It will go in the opposite corner of the closet from the Beast.
Now thats a kitty litter sand-wich. hehe. Cant wait BC, this summer is officially dubbed "The Summer of the 2 Chiefs." Cause that' all we're gonna do during "Not-work time" Im still amazed Beast JR came along as easily as it did. His father was a tough s.o.b. to assemble. So far, I would say Beast Jr is gonna be fine, just fine. We'll take 3-4 O's a month any month of the year! The work shall pay off buddy, til we master the shit and get the timing down then it'll just be automatic. Good job dude, good job!
Im stoked...
