Big beautiful frosty buds ya got there.....especially considering you used a 400.....did any of the aks go hermie on you? if so do you think it was something you might of done, or was a problem with the strain....any other info on the ak would be greatly appreciated....flower time, yeild, taste potency..etc
Hey Gws, first off thanks very much for the kind words. To the best of my knowledge, neither of the AKs went herm; there were a few seeds in them, but I believe those were caused by the one Jack Herer or one White Rhino that went hermi on me - in any event, I don't really mind a few good feminized seeds, in case I need them some time down the line, and Jack Herer X Ak-47 sounds like pretty good bud to me.
As far as whether or not I did anything to cause it, it's unclear to me; there was a power outage one night during their light time, so I just unplugged the lights and put them back on their regular schedule the next day, which I'm told is the correct way to handle the situation. That alone should not really have caused them to herm, so I think maybe the Jack in particular is hermi-prone (I have heard this from others as well).
The AKs were a pleasure to grow, the easiest out of the 3 strains. They are very hardy plants, not picky about their nutes, you can go a little under or over and they will still produce big frosty buds quickly. They were by far the quickest plants to mature in my garden, but not at the cost of yeild or quality as far as I can tell. The colas came down at days 48 and 49, the rest of the plants around day 54 I believe (they were like 10% clear, 80% cloudy, 10% amber at that point). The high is great, the potency has increased after even a week of curing. It smokes smoothly and leaves a nice whitish-gray ash. The only slight let-down is the smell/taste. On the plant, these buds smelled amazing when rubbed (though I didn't find them to be terribly high-odor in general), in particular one which I thought was the cherry pheno, a very cherry/berry sort of smell that I wish I could bottle and use as cologne. Now, they have a sort of cinnamon-like spicy smell which isn't bad, but is not nearly as enticing as the Jack Herer's citrus stank. All in all though, I would definitely grow AK again; it's two-hit-quit weed and it's really easy to grow well.
Much thanks socrates....its all the information i was looking for and more! was a little worried the ak might of had some hermie traits...you put my mind at ease...
beautiful socrates! i have all three strains in the freezer and a nice jock outside! what pheno jocks did you have? i have the sour pheno, smells like a fresh cut lemon!
Thanks for the replies everyone. Both of the Jacks that I had were very lemony-smelling, and they give you a really great STRONG up high. I decided to grow this strain after smoking some "Jack Berry" last year, which was some of the best weed I've ever had the pleasure of sampling.
Here's a picture of one of the jacks:

And some white rhino, weird bud formation on this one but it's quite nice as well.
I'm gonna have to wait until they have all been properly dried and cured, I've only been able to sample early cuts of the Jack and WR so I can't really say yet. At the moment I'm kind of leaning towards the Jack, but time will tell. There's also some magical mystery mix in there which smells exactly like grapefruit, and I haven't gotten to try that yet either. It's one of those good problems to have though
Here's a pic of that mystery mix girl, she was small but beautiful; I wish she could have had more time.
