I finally just ordered the Lee Valley rooting kit, so I will see how it works. I bought 20 of them, but I will be using them on my Japanese Maple trees mostly. I will get pics up when they arive. I am very excited about this kit.

Thanks again Heady Pete for showing us this link. peace_highst

I remember someone back on Overgrow talking about this technique...And i also think there was a really big dabate about bending it over and planting it...But I think it all came out and everyone agreed that it would do you no good..Because by planting this rooted branch in the the ground it would devote all its energy into growing and produceing a good root structure..and that it would do your plant no good because of this..But I never really agreed with it..It seems to me that, yea it would devote alot of energy growing its root structure but it would be worth it if you would veg it for along time so it would have to good root structures and then flower it....I have always wanted to try this...but it seems like it would take too long...Just my 2 cents...PEACE

you are talking about two different things. I am reffering to air layering and the planting the branch in the ground that you are refering to, is called serpentine layering. both work great and I have never experience any draw backs on either methods. I think the only people that would say it doesnt work or help are all the people who havent done it or are too enept to make it work. layering is an advanced technique and takes a little practice and patience. peace_highst

Have you ever tried airlayering and planting the new rootball still attached to the plant?? Instead of cutting it off...
I think I may try it..

I should have posted this in the first place.....This is what i was reffering to...So I was talking about the same thing...PEACE

Sorry, but that post that you quoted makes ZERO sense, and by the way he was writing you can tell the person had never eve done any layering and just doesnt know what they are talking about.

Why would you leave the root ball on the plant and also plant the tip of the branch? That makes no sense, if you want to do a serp. layer, just do that and skip the air layering. Why make the air layer and leave it on the plant? What does that do for you ?

Look man i dont know what your problem is...You dont have to come across to me as a complete asshole....Im sorry if I misunderstood ROOKIES post or yours....I was just telling of what i heard on OG....I never meant any disrepect to you or anyone else....To be honest with you, I have no clue about Air Layering either...And i didnt say that i did..I never disagreed with...But what you need to understand is that i was reffering to ROOKIES Post, and also clowntowns post..If you ask me they both were talking about the same thing...About Airlayering, getting the roots..and then bending it over and planting it to get a secondary root system....Like i said there was a debate on OG about this....I was just bringing it up...Sorry About the whole misunderstanding...BTW i reall appreciate you bringing this technique here for everyone to see it...I think its really cool....PEACE

I've read a lot about this in various botany books, seems ies a very good way to get plants that are slow to root when you cut clones to root without loosing the nutrient and H2O flow from the exsisting roots, good idea to use the press and seal wrap stuff!

Very interesting. Actually, this is the same method that vineyards use if they want to clone their grapes...very similar indeed.

This thread was a fantastic addition to the forum. While it may not be as productive as regular cloning when you have the space, it's next to fool proof if the procedure is done properly.

Nice... I've done airlayering before, but not from the very end. I like the idea. YOu can top your plant in the middle and get 2 good size plants in less than a week or so.

You know, air layering should be a sticky... Maybe not this thread, but some of the better posts of and/or about it in a compilation of posts!!!
