What kind of hood do you have? I dont see any reason why you couldn't just cut a hole and put a flange on there and connect it to your vortex
In order to quiet the fan either put a prefilter/noise reducer on it or just hook it up and see how noisy it is when its all connected to the hood and scrubber, that noramlly quiets things down a bit
ive actually got 2 different style hoods the one is a round one with a vertical bulb(maybe parabolic?), the other is a horizontal bulb with the usuall boxy kinda reflector(not sure the right names)
I want to change one of them to match the other but not sure wich one and if it is even possible.
Hi Stonedage. The vertical parabolic may be difficult to do, but the boxier type is the easiet. Just look around the net for vented hoods and try to get as close as possible in replicating it with what you have. A pair of tin snips, a rivet gun and some ingenuity will take you a long way!
For the parabolic, you could probably put a piece of ducting right up under the edge of it drawing air from the top of the parabola. Just clip it on with something. You'd just have to figure out how to get it to work best, but I wouldn't cut a hole in the hood itself. That would end up causing some light loss.
The best air cooled hoods that I've seen have the hood with air ducting holes, an internal reflector that mounts over top of the light so you don't have any light loss, and then a piece of tempered glass over the bottom of the hood to seal it up from air leaks. I'll upload and post a pic here in a few minutes.
I made my own ghetto air cooled hood with flexible ducting and a fan. it wors remarkably well and its surprising how much heat gets shot out. you could heat a room with the exaust.
Ha ha ha... I was just thinking the same thing MrWags, then I scrolled down and saw your post. Good, confirmed my idea! Now I know what to use for the same problem.
