That is crazy... To see swazi genetics done proper in proper setup.. makes me happy, thanks for sharing! Do you flower from clone or seed or allow the granny to veg out in that space?

A few month back I got a message on a local forum that some Seeds had made their way to the PNW from SA. The folks that had them wanted to shared with me as they had little expierience and were afraid to lose the strain.

I veg under t5 from solo cup to 1g to 3g to 20g. The bloom room is 12k, sealed, co2. I brew my own teas as well.
The plant Is under a 1k lamp and beasting out. The ceilings are 13 ft tall so they can stretch, and granny is a stretcher!
Ive finished some testers in the R&D room... She smells super piney with a hint of pepper/jalapeño. A very nice and unique smell. The stone has a creep, that once sets in last for a long time.

I sent seed of african genetics and hybrids to the bay for fundraisers/freebies last year some time, wonder if they went out at all?Old proper swazis where germ rates might be low, transkei's and hybrids.. I also got some pics recently of swazi hybrid seed from 3 years ago, I think that I gave to some one who grew it out 3 seasons ago I think, i'll get them up..

You described the taste of the peppery swazi pheno's to a T and the high is a creeper no doubt that will stone you for half a day :) It is like an african hash plant, indian genetics in there from years/century/centuries back, haha my first hash I made from swazi coincidentally, my friend phoned me up and said hey I got a K of cheap swazi and a silkscreen, lets make some hash! I was there in a flash and never looked back..Good times! I still have the screen somewhere haha bought it off him right then!

The indian reference is this..
In my experience of growing durbans and swazi's and seeing them growing in durban and surrounding areas years ago and with discussion with a good freind of mine, one of the original persons to bring 'poisons' to LA from SA. They are to me the same genepool and specifically different to the Mozambican/Malawian/Zimbabwean and, more southern, Transkei genetics (which is different to all these other sub-tropical africans and there are also many different varieties of this) .Anyway..
Durban is home to the biggest Indian population outside of india. There have been two main influxes as far as I know, first for cheap/slave labour in the sugarcane plantations etc. starting 1860's and another influx of many immigrants this century too. Gandhi is a famous example joining the indian community in Durban in 1893. The indians brought hash and seed with them for sure. No doubt. Also there is evidence of Indian trade for gold from long before white mans' arrival here, from the era of the great Zimbabwe ruins. It just makes sense to me that if two old ganja growing nations are trading for gold, spices and other commodities in the old days, they would have swopped seeds /genetics, we would do the same and do the same!

Anyway there have many opportunities for genetics trade in history before we discovered the weed :)

On another side note...We all have apartheid, funny enough, to thank for modern smoking and coffeeshops specifically in NL. South Africa is as many may know an old dutch colony and the dutch voted in legislation 2 months after the famous '76 riots here, allowing the decriminilised 'legal retail' of weed. This was done as a covert measure to fund the ANC as the UN sanctions and overt measures had failed. The ANC at this stage had many hundreds of expats overseas studying law etc. needing financial support as well as military camps to fund all over southern africa and the transkei limes and swazi green gold was exported en mass to the 'dam. I know someone who was a founder of political parties here alongside now-famous politicians who was a part of negotiations with the dutch who went 'to the trenches' in the hills to do his bit, managing a brick pressing plant and dealing with the chieftains for supply for the cause. Apartheid was shit and we owe a whole lot more people for our lovely cannabis but this is just a forgotten piece of history.

Hi!
Just visiting, and noticed this thread. A little background: I used to be a pretty much chronic stoner from about '74 through '97. when I quit everything for health and other reasons. Getting back into it again, and I've ordered what I suspect it a POS commercial grow box, and will start a Freedom 35 test grow as soon as the magic beans arrive. It the meantime, I'm in the process of modifying a TV armoire into a nice, stealthy, and powerful grow box.

Anyhow, I visited Kenya and Malindi back in like '84 or so. I scored a tiny amount of the crappiest looking weed I ever saw: VERY bright yellow, lots of stem and seeds, and looked like trash. Very dry as well. What the locals were doing was to sprinkle a tiny bit on a basically tobacco "joint," and toke up. Well, you DID get a buzz from that, so what the hell, ya'know?

So I'm back at the resort with my fiancee (Who wasn't a pot smoker). I managed to squeeze out a decent-sized doobie from one package of this stuff. We're on the balcony and I sparked it up. About coughed a lung up, and the joint was clogged with resin, and absolutely not smokeable. So this was why they only needed a little bit on some tobacco. I regrouped, and after a couple of tokes apiece, we wound up in bed for a couple of hours of incredible sex - And nodded out for about four hours. Strongest, trippiest shit I ever smoked - Period.

So I've often thought of that one-time encounter with that African weed. If I can get my hands on some good seeds, that'll be the first grow in the new box. I'm looking for suggestions of the best African strains, and any recommendations for reliable sources.

Thanks!

Maryjaneis' bro, Durban and Swazi strains are often confused i think caused they are of course genetically related... Imo Swaziland's history is a bit different than the rest of SA, very less disturbed by white humans!...
I wonder what Afro'Jim could think about it..? RIP (?)
Peace from bzh

Her leaf structure is quite unique relative to the rest as is her growth pattern. Super stretchy of course,

Here are some pics of Swazi leaf, and a Swazi/afghan hydrid leaning heavily on the Swazi side with pink hairs and a Swazi/Afghan/top44 cross also somwhere in the garden finishing first. The plants were about a week,4 and then 5 weeks into flower depending on the pic and grown by friend who was given seed and also had Swazi seed. The plants were about halfway or less into flowering and really fattened up at the end making huge colas and buds till the bottom in not the best soil.

Here are more of the same . The first pic has the pink-haired plant in the background and the top44 hybrid in the front. The swazi/afghan/44 was into 4th week of flower and has just over 2 weeks to go.. The later pics of of the swazi leaning cross 5 weeks into flower.

And the last 2 pics I have of these, first one of a full swazi pheno, flowering later than all the rest and the last pic is of the pink plant at 6 weeks with about 4-5 weeks still left to fatten up.

i have grown out plenty of africans mostly swazi and have seen incredible trichome development on some, but i want to say that from smoking these frosty herbs you get to understand that it is not how much frost that counts it is what chemical composition is in those crystals. from my experience it is possible that i can get a better quality high and more enjoyable feelings from a less frosty plant then a more frosty plant. not always though, it depends on the chemical composition as i mentioned. this is not the case when it comes to poly hybrids that have been bred for thc potency for many years. for those you can generally say that more frost = more potency. but for the africans you need to select from palate and quality of high and breed those plants together instead of choosing based on crystal formation alone.

It makes sense oldbootz, more resin equals more terpenes and some of them are known to make the high heavier. That might be the reason I don't really enjoy SSH for example.

Anyone ever smoked Ethiopian highland? How's the high?

I'm currently flowering a Peru x Ethiopian, it's at 55 days now. I would have expected it to be done by now, Peru being a 50 day strain. These stringy buds are just starting to flower properly so it will be closer to 80-90 days total. It appears Ethiopan highland isn't such a fast flowerer after all. Not all phenotypes atleast.

Smoked some import Shashamene a few days ago and this gives a very good clear high.Unfortunately non of the seeds germinated last summer.

Keep on growing :)

Absolutely Oldbootz :) i second that... From my SR, i find more pleasant cleaner high with less frosty ones, very less understones of course and much palates declinaisons. Frosty pheno are radically dark, better smoking them into hash or extractions than the herb for sure.
I noticed too that the less resin ones in general have a small shape without much stretch but more well branched (Christmas tree). The frosty beasts are (in general) with lance shape and less branched.
To say more about the palate i was surprise to find a mom with cocacola taste, from a small specimen^^, funny cause the high was very energic and heartbeat, i reserved and named the batch "coke" lol.

The dad SR was also meet a SPG x Mango Haze lady au passage. ;)
But for me i really like the dark frosty ones high too with heavy understones, i find that my cross with Libanese increase the stuff with much taste. I look forward to produce and enjoy this H!

About the different phenos, maybe
influence from north Indian hashplants? I think I remember mriko saying that the coolies were from the north west and from around Kerala.

Possible bro, Mriko is a loremaster :)

Have to say too that there is an aroma not saying about the Swazi Red, it is on the earthy side : Carrot!
It reminds the Kerala, Zamal and Malagasy lines...

After some reading I think it was Tamil Nadu in the South and Gujarat in the north, bordering Pakistan. Gandhi was from Gujarat as well.

It makes you think, doesn't it? :) Strains in those areas have similarities.

Ethiopian Highland to me looks Chinese!
