^ Early morning down at the ranch to finish spreading the mulch pile from the other day. Moving and dumping a row of cleared weeds. We have weather coming in…so I wanted to button up what I already have in before the winds kick up. I’m happy with the progress so far.

^ The creek bed. Dry now. Come monsoon season this can run wild…carving out the bottom and the sides….and rising up to the garden site. It’s also a good place to look for interesting artifacts and rocks.

IMG_4509.jpeg

^ Fresh kill I came across. Looks to me like the Ravens were finishing off the carcass. A lot of coyotes come through. Also I’ve caught a big Tom Bobcat on the trail cams when they are set up on the garden.

^ Headed back into town. You can see the weather rolling in

Cool….I feel better

LOL.

Please excuse, but…
Retired RRT & old habits, etc
Remember to protect your runner’s lungs when working in dust. Any exam mask is helpful. Don’t need fancy to filter dust.

Now , back to your regularly scheduled program…

100% spot on. I should wear a dust mask. All this dry air too. A lot of pollens in it and desert grit. Ever see a Juniper tree when it’s dusting pollen? Like a yellow cloud. We have a lot of Alligator Juniper trees. They are everywhere. You can see clouds of pollen.

About as much snow/precipitation as we’ve gotten all winter. Cool though that it’s sitting on top of the mulch I layered down on both my garden spots. Any moisture helps out right now. Get it cooking.

and old budweiser can ! what a neat find
i bet it had the pull tab top

That pebble is Malachite. You find it (like Turquoise) where there are Copper deposits. This is Copper country.

Snow had melted. Chilly though. We got down to 28 last night. It’s going to warm up and then chill down. Flux. Into Spring. Winds aren’t hammering today though. Saw that Pine Valley got snow. More than us here. I’m sitting out this colder weather. Good time to hunker and recover.

I’m home today again. Resting my body from the trails. Taking it easy. Doing some art. Waiting for the UFC fights to start. Pay per view tonight. Solid card. I’m into the UFC. Every Saturday we watch the fights. It helps me with my own sport.

Rooting for Pereira, Gaethje, Turner, Lucinda, Ruffy

Everybody made weight. I want to see good fights…only the main and co main am I emotionally invested in. Alex and Justin have been great representatives for mma. Warriors.

Nah I don’t dig for rocks. I let them come to me. I have a collection.

^ Running and adding mulch and duff to the Barrio Footprint. It’s a day…starting by hauling 6 bags of oak/juniper heavy duff (broken down to the stage where it becomes earth) heavy loads coming off a steep enough hillside. Rolling rocks underfoot carrying weight makes it a challenge. Then I went and did bars and ran….then home to unload and spread/wet. That was yesterday.

Today it was 8 bags off the mulch pile. Truck right beside it. Not so hard. Worked in a bit of a drizzle gray. Somebody has been hitting the mulch pile. It’s getting lowered. Get back out there tomorrow or soon…and get what I can for the ranch grow.

We have some cooler days ahead for the next few. More winds. Maybe more drizzle. We didn’t get much out of this today…little rain…but west of here they got it good. Tucson got it I know that. My friend texted me this morning about it raining all night.

^ I have many ounces stashed around…but this is the bulk of my ‘22 harvest. It’s still a lot. Getting old though yeah? Going on 3 years. Definitely time to grow again.

^ Sister 4 out of vacuum. She had a bad location in the garden. Blocked out by tree shade and her bigger sisters. Yielded lower. Not really a fair assessment being her disadvantages….but I put an orange peel into the jar with her flowers just to juice her up…she was too dry coming out for my liking. I like the flowers dry though. Just not brittle dry….this stuff is borderline.

What was I saying?….o…yeah…she’s never been one of my go to smokes out of this harvest. I can not decide what part of the genetic family she leaned towards…I gave a lot of her flowers away…but I kept the last 2 ozs to give her.. her last chance to go out on a winning note. I’ll sample her later this evening.

I’m smoking Sister 24 now….she’s just gotten better in a long cure…and my current favorite sister. I don’t give her flowers away. Kind of hoarding those.

What it’s like for me to be deep in Sharpies. My wife hustles online stores. I ended up with 180 markers. 100 of them are brand new. 80 are a mixed pack of brand new and slightly used. The slightly used are just that…very slightly used. I let the store choose the colors. I like and use all colors.

Man the shit you find in online stores is so awesome. The deals are sick. Where do people get this stuff? I always wonder. Who in the hell has a deal where they can get bulk markers like this? I mean it was just a lady selling these in her store. Think we paid $70 and when wife tried to lowball further she told my wife she couldn’t and was only making $10. Whether true or not…it’s still a good deal for me. Bless ya, lady!

And my running shoes. Some of these people have them in bulk…brand new…still in boxes. And I get them for just over 1/2 price retail (not all the time but a lot of the time) when they are deep in stock.

I just wonder if some outfit is robbing truckload containers of these shoes and getting them out to these middle people to sell them. 😂 Whatever….beats paying retail mark up. The shoes are not knock offs. Real deal. I picture some schmoe with a storage unit or a warehouse flowing products in and out…whatever comes to them…post them up and mail them out.

I’m not a business person. I have no idea how this all works. I get supply and demand. But this isn’t that I don’t think.

nice cure on that and i like the color
we all have our favorite smoke and i still am surprise with what i find in my old jars
i like your naming convention, is it all the same strain grown from seed
what are you planting this year?
thats a wild deal for all those markers and where do people get a lot of this stuff
have you ever heard of that show called storage wars where people will bid on storage units and resell the stuff inside?
we used to go to estate sales and things like that and buy things and i enjoy going to the thrift store from time to time with a friend, but i think most of the thrift store stuff has been picked through
so we are going to be getting some heavy rain here over the next 24-48 hrs and it should be a cold one with the snow level dropping down to 3000ft
i just need to layer up thats all

I’m growing the same shit. Selfed from a different mother plant this time. I could tell big long multiple decade stories about how it came to be but it doesn’t matter. I’ll be fortunate if I have the time and motivation to pull it off this grow. Nothing in this world is free.

Smoking buds from the Sister 4 plant now. She’s stony. Not a real complex flavor. Again…she’s good…just not one of the better ones. She gets me plenty high. That’s what’s important to me. She does that. Without frills of complex flavor is all. Not a stand out.

Some people breed plants for flavor or yield. I bred my plants for the headspace 1st and foremost. I smoke herb to get high. Gardening wise….again…I prefer to grow vines. I prefer complicated and interesting plants. If I was all production minded I’d just run a garden of uniform clones and be bored with it. No matter how good the clone might be.

* If you go to around page 245 you’ll get an idea how the plants will look in flower.

^ Took another 9 bags out of the mulch pile. It’s about played out now. I scored probably 85% of the original pile. Somebody else got the other 15. Can’t complain about that. It will serve me well.

So just for accuracy’s sake : a total of 49 bags went down to the ranch garden. 14 bags went to the Barrio Footprint.

There may be 3-5 bags left at the pile if it were to be raked together. Maybe that many. Maybe not…as it’s down to dirt and rocks.

* ended up being 6 bags

A few days of colder temps and winds. The battle between Winter and Spring.

Not much precipitation. A lot of cold wind.

As a gardener : the more you can get done in March the less chaotic pressures you go up against in April. I dislike being rushed at anything. I’d rather lose sleep to the work than to the worry.

I can not see the exact way I’m going to attempt this garden. What I’m doing is setting it up so that I may make an attempt…yes…but I really am not seeing it. Say I’m about a month out from putting my beans in the medium.

I’ve already put in a lot of time and labor into it. It doesn’t get easier. My schedule will continue to get busier. I can feel that coming. Once that switch flips I’m into a whole different mode. It’s the weather. It’s the conditions. Time is ticking.

Spending this much time back on a social media platform (ICmag) documenting another grow? It’s kind of stale.

IMG_4557.jpeg

Weed is good though

IMG_4563.jpeg

^ Put the last piece into the Barrio Footprint. Now I’ll just keep backfilling with forest duff. Plant my cucumbers in mid April.

IMG_4566.jpeg

^ The branches I am going to have to cut since my neighbors won’t be cool and cut them. Box Elder that has never been maintained except when the power company clears their wires. My neighbors are idiots.

The flagged branch is reaching for south sun and growing over our Apricot tree and blocking west sun. The bigger branch behind it is overhanging just about the entire front yard. I’ll have to deal with their power line that goes right over our yard. The flagged tree is in the main wires and I’ll have to deal with them too. A lot of pole saw work.

IMG_4559.jpeg

^ Walking back down the hill from checking on my friend’s (Mike same guy who owns the ranch) house. This is our weather.

Dry sieve crumble over Sister 4 flower. Nice uplift. Got me up to finish that last garden piece….in the wind, muck, and mulch.
