A World On A String

Hello.
Could you tell me which plant is the one you see with purple flowers? And the trees next to it (the ones that look more of the oak family than the pine) or then next to the caravan?
And in the following photos, what are those stone structures that look like the remains of buildings?
Thank you so much for your landscape photos (they are always my favorite).
Best of luck and health to all.

I consider SE AZ and SW NM my muse…all the Sky Islands….and all the Ranges…and the lands in between. Good stuff

* Took this picture..this morning…after smoking out at the 180\78 junction. The wife and I drove over to Safford, AZ.

Hello. Think you are talking about a Tree Cholla cactus. There are a lot of them. Don’t want to fall into those.

The structure is old mining works from the early part of the 20th century. They loaded the ore material here…then brought it down to town to be processed. Lot of gold, silver, and copper were…and still are mined in this part of the country. Old logging and mine roads present great possibilities for people running the mountains.

Enjoy!

so...have you been in nm long enough to answer the most important question? red or green?
if you ever head over to cruces drop a line and come by

Hey dude! Green. One of the reasons we moved here!

I’ll hit you up for sure. I’ve been down that way a few times…or passing through…and still have not hit the Organ Range. Was over running outside of Cloudcroft for a few weeks…couple years ago. So many places still to get to.

Saw you had a job! Think I tried to hit you up on IG long time ago…I’m not posting over there these days…but anyways…yeah man…New Mexico is where we landed. My thing for the Gila is pretty intense!

yeah,it's growing with super tedious paperwork! you'll like the organs...steep,exposed,and rocky...but nice pine forest above 7000 feet,a good two pass loop with sketchy trail finding, lots of interesting side trails...

and green is obviously the best

^ This sister is #13. She has a tendency towards mutation. Not all…but many…of her tops show this type of leafing. I believe it’s a genetic quirk. There is Chem DD and Original Flo in her heritage….though I know this is not a Blue Line mutation…it may be a tendency vibe…definitely seen things like this in Chem DD and outcrosses. Could be good…could be bad…could be nothing. This expression is not as robust as adjoining sisters.

^ One member of a battalion of Praying Mantis that are safeguarding the Sisterhood. Guarding #13 in this example. I’ve watched these mantis grow from small fry to semi adults…over the last bunch of weeks. So far…so good…on keeping the balance.

^ This is sister #1. In last few days (not yesterday though) I’ve worked on pruning the junk…low…inside suckers and leaves…gutting out the sisters…and guiding (via green wire) their mostly flimsy vine limbs into optimum positions to find the screen and sunshine. Proactive Pruning.

^ Last step of today’s session was to hose spray a semi deep layer of water on the plants…not so much directly for the plants…but more to keep the medium cooking up its network of funguses..worms etc…my vision of a living carpet to feed the roots of the near to flowering plants.

* Weather wise. Our monsoon season started early…but we’ve been in a lull as far as…getting precipitation the last couple weeks. Our days have been into the 90’s…rh has gone down…lot of sun. Nights in the low 70’s.

We have thunderstorms in the forecast. I’m definitely wanting it to rain at this stage. Hoping this afternoon produces. Cloud cover and muggy now…looking good. Nice steady rain every afternoon for the next 5-7 days would make me very happy. Don’t need no bombs or torrential downpours…just a steady release.

As per plan….flying this makeshift mechanism by observations, experience, and will. Objectively as I can manage.

I’ve been looking at them for a while. Also interested in the Florida Range south of Deming. I enjoy that kind of terrain. Spent more than a month on the KOFA (western AZ) back in ‘20….very similar terrain/atmosphere….rough going. Kicks your ass.

Still have not made it to Hatch…but I want to see where the peppers are grown and processed. I eat a lot of peppers. Lot of Apricots right now too! We’ve harvested 20 gal of Apricots from out yard tree. Still get another 5 gal bucket off it. Probably today. Freezing it for jam.

^ Last of the bucket harvests. Birds are getting the rest.

Hatch has a chile festival in the fall around the time it starts getting nice here...also in october there's a 300ish mile not a race race called the dangerbird, mostly a bike thing, but a few runners have taken it on...on insta there's redridinghoodella,a crazy british girl and locally pete livingstone ...there's also a few ultra races along the sierra vista trail system here...

pretty sure by october the farm will be up and running finally...doing an outdoor-ish run now,a bunch of autos and now a grip of full season plants and making more clones all the time...

Thank you for your kind explanations; I knew it was a cactacea and that they were not nopales, and I didn't know what they sounded like to me.... Here it has arrived not many decades ago from my NorthEast, probably it was introduced for gardening, and they have declared it an invasive plant: but you still do not see specimens as big as yours; I am afraid that in groups of young plants along roadsides, I have already heard of some accidents with cyclists and / or motorists...

Come on, I'm in too. I don't have a bike but my donkey Fierabrás and I are going there...And even more if, as I think I understood well (my English is very rustic) our kind host in his thread, you have nights of 70°F or less...(I'm not much for hot peppers: I'll stick to the Padrón peppers and the wolfslayer... Firebrás eats everything-everything-and-everything... )
By the way, a shipyard could be set up in your greenhouse....

Joking aside, I am very interested in the history of your state and its people, especially from the USA annexation back to the first human settlers. I don't know the current situation of the Pueblo/Zuñi/Hopi , the Apaches/Navajos, and the Comanches, which are the main natives of New México area ones that the history we study here talks about.

Since you seem to like extreme routes, I remember that at least in Hispanic times, the fame of being one of the hardest stretches of road that could be traveled in the " hole known world", which had the first 100 kilometers approximately from El Paso in the direction of Santa Fé, even reached here... "Jornadas o Tramo de Los Muertos", I think they baptized it in the chronicles... Although maybe now it's a highway, heh, I have no idea...

A pleasure to chat with you, neomexicans gentlemen: it will be a real pleasure to read/see you any comments/pictures about history-culture/geography-landscapes of your state.

Best of luck and good health to everybody.

^ The Living Carpet

* Added two more industrial size bags of Oak duff this morning. Raked them out from under the donating Oaks…bagged them and carted the weight to the garden. Spreading them out under screen conditions…sharp wire ends…hunched under…no easy task. Bags are heavy. Screen is low.

** When the carpet becomes compressed…I add the fluff. Kind of how I judge it. If my medium is fluffy…I’m keeping up.

^ From near the Forest Service Fire Look Out on Signal Peak…around 8800’…watching a cloud burst. The mountains have been getting hammered with rain…whereas…lower down in the valleys…near town…not much.

^ Goddamn. These shoes are pricey and barely broke in. Already fucked them up. I’ll end up sending these back for a new pair. I’ve only been running in them since 03 July. All miles documented on Strava. Now I gotta do the song and dance with Altra Shoes. They’re usually very good about it.

^ So I state my case

Retail : $180 (except for this pair I never pay retail. I was in a bind for shoes though)

Miles on them : 93.48 trail

I remember when this company just started. Now they are big. Quality is suffering. Prices are going up (working out to $10 increase every generation)…..and I don’t bitch….I just glue…but not this time…I want compensation

one of the three people who have run the monumental loop is sponsored by altria and i swear she must have to spend a half hour hashtagging each instagram post
That’s the game in ambassadorship. A social media presence and a bunch of slobbering. The entire Ultra scene has gotten out of hand. Lotteries and waiting lists to get in races….not such a poor person sport anymore.

I haven’t raced since 2019. I did the Up and Over at the ski resort in Taos. That was just a 10k of going up then down. I was camping down the road anyway…running Wheeler etc….I like Taos in the summer. Great running.
