Clearing the Forest

Clearing the Forest

^ Jaundice f2 expression #3 harvested on day 55...flushed since day 45. Both the Veg studio and the Flower studio are backed up...crowded out. Decided to harvest this plant in order to create some rotation...though I had planned on taking her on day 60. Don't believe the 5 day difference will diminish anything at all...except the fade is not as pronounced as it would be if let go another 5 days.

Jaundice = Bogbubble X Chem DD

Nice plant...Bubblegum dominant...reeks sweet but pungent..flowers are sticky with resin glands...full and plentiful. Nothing not to like. Wonderful plant.

* I'm really into these Bubblegum infused plants. They are easy to grow and a lot of fun to work around....blowing up fast...vigorous..quick to finish flower.....yield well..smoke out nicely...etc

I was reading that the original Bubblegum from the mid west was made up of Big Skunk X Northern Lights....but I'm not sure if that is really the lineage. I do believe it to be from some sort of Skunk #1 hybrid...seems like a Skunk frame and flower structure to me.

** still of the mind that the Chem (dog?) lines too..were born out of the Skunk line...perhaps though...they are derived from the acrid skunk side of the genetics. Many people are searching for the "Road Kill Skunks" that they remember from the 70's/80's...the lime green sticky flowers of lore. I remember those flowers from my youth in the 1980's...as...probably some of the first indoor buds I ever smoked.

From working with Chem DD...I've found the same sort of flowers...the same super pungent skunk aromas. The Mox Mox (queen moxie clone) I keep is such a plant. She delivers those flowers to perfection...really...they seem like the same buds I saw in the early-mid 80's. Some day when all the DNA tests are made available...I guess I'll know how right or wrong I am.

the point?

Figure that somewhere in Jaundice...I will find some interesting and different aromas that will blend perfectly...the sweet side and the foul/funk side of the genetics. It's in there. Of that...I am sure.

*** I've had to put in a lot of work lately...concerning the indoor gardens. Haven't put that much work in there...in a long time. Doing what I can to keep up. It's a claustrophobic sort of feeling in there at the moment.

Getting Pounded with Weather

Getting Pounded with Weather

Yeah...El Nino..perhaps. Dumped rain on us last night and it continues today. Another wall of dark gray coming this way. I can see it through a gap in the mountains. Temps are in the 40's....winds are a steady 10-15 mph with 20-30 mph gusts. Had planned to do a long run today..15-20 miles...but decided to cancel it and get some trimming done.

^ No...this is not the same plant I showed yesterday. This is her sister..and a keeper...Jaundice f2 expression #1. I'm harvesting her today (day 56) after flushing her since day 45. Just like #3...she's being harvested out of space necessities and had been scheduled to harvest on day 60. 4 days early then. Gosh...these plants flower fast. Seem to blow up over night. Stink is strong too. The house reeks when I trim them...

* I told you, dudes before....#3 and #1 were duplicates of each other and are much like the Bogbubble mother plant...well...at least as I remember her. I created Jaundice (Bogbubble X Chem DD) back in 2008 and the 2nd generation in 2009 (these are f2's).....so yeah...it's been a long time since I grew the Bogbubble mother plant. She's long long gone.

** I kept #1 over #3 just because she vegged way faster. Other than the veg time...there was no differences that I could tell.

*** At the moment...I'm totally enthralled with growing Jaundice. I'm flowering out clones of #1, #2 (fave), and now...put in a couple days ago...the J2s1 which is an absolute beast of a girl. These girls of mine are killing it in every regard. I might have to dig back into the f1 and f2 Jaundice beans...and see what else I can find...but at this time...wow...the bitter envies are ripping it up in my studios.

Speaking about ripping it up:

^ The duel between Plenty (aka Easy Mox Trilogy #7) on the left...and Queen Moxie (a Mox Mox f1) on the right continues into day 39.

Holy fucking shit. Plenty is blowing Moxie away in flower making. These plants are 6'+ tall...and going off....but it's obvious that the heavier sativa dominant, Plenty has the edge on flower production.

* aroma, flavor, and high wise...remember I've stated before...that they are very similar. Super skunky, foul, plastic, fuel, poo (you get the idea..funk)....and structure wise they are both flimsy vines...but bud structures are different (though similar) with Plenty being a more foxtail(ing) beady flower. Very potent...very much running herbs....get up and goes

Mox Mox = Chem DD (Deliah) X TFlux

TFlux = Original Flo X Chem DD

Easy Mox Trilogy = Mox Mox (Easy expression) X Blended Pollen

Blended Pollen = Casey Jones f2, Triesel, or Purple Bastard Haze f2

** It's my opinion that Plenty was most likely fathered by the Purple Bastard Haze f2 pollen. I say this because of her flower structure and her big time vigorous stretch. She grows super fast in veg and in flower. Her flavor and aroma though...that's coming from the Mox Mox. So what I've found is a heavy sativa dominant Mox Mox. Awesome plant. Awesome.

*** I feel blessed. I'm totally into the plant expressions I've uncovered...totally into every plant I've decided to keep. The line up is pretty damn good.

<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

In other news: I'm taking a sabbatical off the hash/flowers. Ever since I caught that virus I haven't been able to get my lungs back up to par. I didn't smoke while I was sick...but when I resumed a couple weeks ago...I still didn't feel right. I was spitting up a lot of snot/mucus after each hill I ran. Spitting and coughing up way too much grossness. My lungs would feel like they couldn't expand all the way....didn't feel healthy or 100% breathing wise. Coughing until I'd puke a bit on some occasions (after a hard burst up a hill)

I started the sabbatical after a really hard run...a few days ago. Surprisingly....I'm not craving to get stoned. I'm a heavy user of herb...waker and baker...all day...every day...all night (even in the middle of the night)..every night....24/7 stoner....so usually when I take sabbaticals I really miss getting high. Not this time though.

My running abilities take priority over about anything these days. It's not even about health really. It's about the ability to run...to the levels I feel I need to reach. This race year is putting a lot on my table. I have a lot of goals...a lot of expectations for myself. Whatever helps me achieve those goals...the way I want to achieve them...is what I'm willing to do. If I have to chill out on the herbs....so be it.

Don't know how long this sabbatical will last. I live my life with few rules and as little structure as possible...but I'm also a very disciplined individual when it comes to my gardening and my sport...so it lasts until I see fit.

Hail Falling

Hail Falling

Wise decision not to go for that long run. It's been raining all day..and now it's switched to hail. Temp has actually dropped down to just above 40. Supposed to be sunny tomorrow though.

^ Slowly wet trimming the Jaundice f2 expression #1 plant. I trim for a while...then go do something else for a while...then trim for a while..a drawn out process..that burns out the daylight.

but whatever

Most of the plant expressions I cherish don't weigh up if one were to look at scale numbers. I tend to favor scissor jamming..resinous..wispy styrofoam flowers...light yielders. Expressions that are difficult to manicure properly...complicated flowers. Just the way it is.

The Jaundice plants though...they not be my typical examples. Easy to trim and nice fat chunky buds. They are resinous however...goo up the scissors with gusto. Lots of sugar leaf glands. Really nice hash making plants.

yup,i took today off to trim too,its warm out,but it got pretty windy today...and i just had 3 days of perfect shirtsleeve and shorts weather to ride so im not feeling like i copped out this week...got lots of steeper climbing practice in...getting better at it,going out riding on sunday with a rider with better rock technique than me,always helps me to see what others do over a given bit of terrain,if for no other reason than it suddenly becomes "possible" rather than "wtf do i do here?"...

its a lot better than before when i would just sorta freak out a bit and let the scared part of my brain take over...dying trying is way better than just pussing out...even 6 months ago i considered many, many trail sections to be something i couldnt even conceive of how to get a bike up...now those sections of trail dwell in the corners of my mind until i nail them...big mind change to go from "no frickin way" to "i will get up this awful, rocky, loose piece of crap climb!"

yeah, just harvested some blue satellite 2.2,only like the third crop since it took forever to reveg the plant and get solid clones from it...glad i did...doesnt produce much but it frickin reeks! really glad i made the effort...and the bloody cookies...always a let down on the scale, but it sure does my brain right...and the flavor this round is outstanding...

I got some really nice stuff out of Blue Satellite 2.2 and some of the outcrosses I made. Never got any hefty plants either. Yeah...it's more of a specialty herb I'm thinking. The cross I made to Casey Jones (Satechism) and the one I made to CBF's S'Creme-n-Dawg (I-HOP BS 2.2) created some great smoke. I'll mess with it again some day...think I made a bunch of 2.2 f2 beans..

I've smoked the Thin Mint version of Cookies...but never seen it growing. Tasty smoke though...and it did taste like mint cookies. Don't know how that flavor came out..but for sure it was there.

Still pissing here. Now it's switched back from hail to rain...but it's dumping. Taking a tea break from trimming (fucking off)...working on my warming fire...watching/listening to a documentary (in the background) on weather. Weather always interests me.

I'll do a long run tomorrow...then on Sunday we're going to my running club's X-mas party. That's down on Mission Bay...at a really nice restaurant. Living large..my club is. It will be an interesting collection of peoples. Politics, man...politics. It's good to know those who make the magic happen. Hell...I'm even in good standings at this point....a helpful and known member.

* You've come a long ways, Unc concerning your collection of bikes and your riding. I have a lot of respect for you.

just about to hit 3500 miles and 150000 feet of climbing since june so im thinking thats starting to pay off...three months of climbing challenges in a row always gets me thinking "one more climb" when i go out...and you know,experience=competence=confidence...toss in a dose of conditioning and fitness and you can do anything...but you know its 90% mental, not only knowing you're capable of something, but having that gut deep conviction and belief that you can...when you just do it rather than thinking about it...

it works out, there was a bunch of trails i just never rode before, whole new areas im going out and exploring so its all fresh...once again, another mental door opening up...i just take it slow, wear my pads, and dont worry about walking the bike if i have to,the consequence level of falls has gone up in the techier terrain, the rocks are all arm breaker size now,or the trail is just in giant cactus patches or has a crazy drop off to one side....fun stuff, crazy how a 10 foot section can bout me for days...

Rosebud Flo

Rosebud Flo

the temperatures have been frigid...between systems of cold rain and cold Santa Ana events

^ several Queen Moxie clones I've been flowering together...this one has taken on the Flo form. Sure it's the colder temperatures that have tightened up the flowers and brought on the blood dark hues...but you know...I know it's my Flo mother showing up for kicks. The Flo flowers are pretty distinct. Cut her down yesterday...early 60's...cold stop

the center of the plant is where the good flowers are found. They are a diamond forest...in which one must only...snip off bits of bliss

^ That's the 6'+ Easy Mox Trilogy #7 (aka Plenty) that I cut down this morning...on only day 58. Done on day 58...hard to believe...but so true. Think I harvested her in a late window on her 1st clone run...day 72 or somewhere there...and don't remember what day I took her on the 'from seed run'....but here she is...well done on day 58...2nd clone run. Real beauty. This is great smoke...great fun....great plant

To her right..is the Queen Mox clone that is also done here...on day 58. I'll cut her down tomorrow. Plenty looks bigger because of her flower sizes...but Moxie has a bucketload of those tight winter buds filling out her structure...from bottom to top....so...I'm not sure which will weigh out the most for comparison.

In between those girls..elevated on buckets or growing up from the floor..I have new plants arrived to start the 1st weeks of flower...as I've been experimenting with rotation staggers.."fresh in" shorter structures placed in front of and between older finishing structures...picking and choosing which varieties to fit in..all the logistics...of a dynamic flowering concept.

* Small squares (1.7 gal) used in my method...elevated or not...allow me mobility. I move flowering plants around as if they are chess pieces. Every week the board looks different. I think of it as a 3 stage flower cycle. In most cases it's 3 stages. Requires constant moving of plants.

** My vines..Plenty and Moxie...an intermediate Easy Mox Trilogy #5..and the bushes..J1, J2, J2s1...are the pieces that are working presently. I can make them fit. The system is jamming during the winter.

^ These are from the Queen Moxie clone....off that same plant I showed in the last post..the one that chose to Flo-out. cutting the diamonds

more Moxie flowers I'll harvest tomorrow..as I mentioned...going to be taking down that 6' one..that dueled it out with the Plenty plant

weather keeps coming...

weather keeps coming...

whether it brings more rain or whether it brings strong winds..and both...winter weather keeps bringing cold days and nights. Dripping pipes cold at night. Had to lay down alfalfa over the garlic/worm bed. Such a late start on planting the bulbs (Thanksgiving day)...extended fall gardening season and the racing..forced a late planting...so now..

the ground freezes..popping the rooted cloves above the surface itself..as if..they can not root down to get settled..or the ground has rejected them

the alfalfa should help

^ Took this the other day. The bottoms of the Plenty plant (left) and the Moxie plant (right)...after they had their good stuff removed and were able to be moved into a more comfortable working space..

the remaining flowers were cut for hash only.

^ 58 day harvest samples off the Plenty plant. I still have to finish trimming buds..haven't had to time to finish Plenty and start the Moxie..so I've got a mess of stanky flowers hanging around needing to be processed to cure

but more to the subject of the pictures...these are excellent flowers to smoke. Plenty delivers it all for me...killer high and flavor.

wonder sometimes why I keep pushing on and looking for new plant expressions...mixing genetics.....fucking around with all this shit in small confined places.

gets to be claustrophobic..deliriously complicated...even..overly time consuming. and for what reason? there is no money in it...sometimes no joy..

lot of work though. not cheap either

my point is: I don't know how much better plant expressions I can find. Seriously...after a bunch of years...and after finding several killer expressions in the mixes...I'm actually fine where I am...yet...

I keep going. I'm germinating some more Jaundice f2 and some I-HOP Blue Satellite 2.2 in order to progress to somewhere else. I don't know where.

Can't stop moving forward. Stopping is the end of the road

why has my life come to running mountains and growing plants? the drive i can not explain. i may be stupid to the core

staggering around gimped all the time...but still able to run well...all that seems to matter in this game. Yesterday...my friend succumbed to cancer...and I ran myself out of my mind. that's how it is...that was New Years Day.

Another Stormy Day

Another Stormy Day

Getting hit with yet another winter blast. It's been storming for days now. This is a good thing.

^ Harvested this morning....day 62...Easy Mox Trilogy #5. Experimenting with harvest windows..last run I harvested her on day 72. This run she was also flowered in much cooler conditions...her flowers tightened up and didn't foxtail..as much as..the previous run. She did kick out a lot of nanners throughout mid to late flowering. Don't think she liked the cold nights.

* This expression is my least favorite to grow..out of the plants that I currently keep. She's an ugly vegger...as I've shown before...kind of twists and bends herself like a crooked spine and shoots useless branches through her interior...takes her time getting up to size and to root clones.

but...

the finished flowers have that weird funky aroma that is super appealing..and which transitions perfectly over to flavor so that

...when I have a jar of her around...it never stays around for very long.

** I'm not growing too many clones of EMT #5....but I'll put one into flower every now and then just because I dig on the finished product. Those who have sampled her flowers have always commented on her weird flavor and are stoked when I have a jar of her to share. It's distinct in its fullness....but the actual flavor itself..everyone has a difficult time describing. Sometimes I note a grapefruit sort of flavor..but then it's overwhelmed by a chemical funk...anyways...top shelf attributes

*** Pretty sure this expression was fathered by the Casey Jones f2 pollen. I'd say she has some Trainwreck features in her appearance and in her flavor. Just seems like some lowland jungle funk...creeper style.

the wife brought home a cold...she was sick all last week..and now I've got the same thing. Guess the bugs are going around. I didn't get much sleep..had a head ache, cough, and congestion...with the wind and sleet cranking most the night..I fed the fire and waited for daylight

^ 1/2 assed pictures of some manicured Easy Mox Trilogy #5...real sticky...real smelly...lots of flowers. Being ill and all...I've been trimming

^ My latest find

Jaundice f2 expression #2 self 1...J2s1 is what I call her. If you recall...I found a single seed on J2 in her first run and germinated it.

This daughter of J2 is an outstanding grower...here she is on day 28 and already blowing up. A fine and beautiful girl to look at...perhaps...more beautiful than her mother. She smells a lot like her mom...but you know..she's in early flower..and may well change up or become even more pronounced. She stinks nicely...pungent and feline pissy with a sweetness too.

I cloned the hell out of J2s1 even without having seen her flowered. I had that feeling...mentioned it way back..that I thought of her as the "Feel Good" plant. We'll see...right? Yes...we will see. Rocking this girl though...with no doubts she is going to be a star player for me

* Got my acceptance notice for the San Diego 100 Mile ....so I'll be racing that again in June. Slowly filling out the race schedule for 2016.

thought processes...the things on my mind

thought processes...the things on my mind

I've been sick with the cold I picked up for the last 5 days or so. Haven't been out training since the 1st day of the year..

naturally being sick really blows

..but

my body has been healing itself not just from the cold...but also from all the miles of running. For the first time in months or years...I'm not sore with every step..not moaning every time I get up or bend to pick something up....or cramping while I sleep

I haven't been doing anything. No running...no push ups...no pull ups...no dips...no stretching...no nothing. I decided to (or was forced to) accept that I've been run down..and that this 2nd bout with a cold..is an indicator that I need to chill out. I am. I might just take a couple more weeks off..

It's like an off season. I don't race again until March 26th (Old Goats 50 Mile).....and being lazy isn't so bad right now

.....moving on

Been following Madjag's threads...and thinking a lot about how revolutionary Skunk was back in the day. That...and having some success in finding favorable expressions in some of my older crosses recently...I've been reverting to my old ways. Should also note that the bean collection is aging...need to keep them fresh and progressing

^ SZSK f2 = Skunk #1 X Chem DD

* The Chem DD males were the same males I used in many of my crosses. They were from the 2007-2008 Reservoir batches.

** The Skunk #1 beans were from Flying Dutchman because I read that Sam said that their Skunk #1 and Original Haze were authentic to what he brought to Holland. Unrefined. They were fruity skunks. I wanted Skunk #1 as close to what Sam bred it to be....and then take it from there.

*** I made the 1st generation of SZSK (south zone skunk) in 2008 I believe....but can't remember exactly when I made the 2nd generation...probably 2009 or 10. Stored in the fridge...not frozen..see how the germ rates are. I dropped some more Jaundice f2 and some I-HOP BS 2.2 a while back and got only a few seedlings for my efforts. Could have been the room temps...but who knows...perhaps my stuff is just getting old

**** because the foul smelling Chem lines remind me of what I think of as Skunky herb....I thought the DD would be a solid match to mix with the stable Skunk #1 line...and see if I could find some old skool framed Skunks that grew like #1 but went away from the fruit...or I should say..blended in a funky way with the fruit...and mixed well...unlocking positive traits. A huge yielding skunky foul Skunk seems to be a goal..as well as...well....why not? Skunk #1 is a classic...and the Chem lines are infamous bag seed.

***** I have not had great success getting away from the Skunk #1. As I recall...the SZSK plants that I've grown were all very much like the Skunk #1 mom. None were dominated by the DD. I don't find that surprising at all...being how well bred Skunk #1 is...and how Chem DD is a hybrid. But...you know...you have to keep looking and moving the generations forward. Somewhere...there is a genetic combination in this cross that will match up to my expectations. I think though..that it will take many plants and much time. I doubt that I'll get too lucky too fast

Funny. I seem to keep coming back to Skunk. Maybe it's the retro in me...or the respect for building blocks...but I was looking at Madjag's old grows and the pictures made me want to grow Skunk again. I just groove on their appearance....and the whole concept of having a manageable sativa.

In the years past.....as a pollen chucking breeder hack....my main goals in making seeds were to build a genetic collection, create related pools to work in, and to be independent of any consumer market. Now days....I'm past that point and actually seeing what it is that I've done. The collection is there...the pools are made...and I'm free of markets. I'm my own thing.....sink or swim

EDIT: I did a search in this thread on South Zone Skunk and found that I was working with plants from the f2 generation back in the summer and fall of 2010. Looks like I crossed one of those with Casey Jones f2 pollen. Don't remember doing that and the pictures are no longer there..but interesting...and probably a fun cross to look at. From the sounds of the posts the female was well seeded...so I must have the beans in my collection somewhere. Hum....yeah...I know I made that cross just for kicks...but I can understand what my reasoning was mixing in the Casey pollen. Shit yeah...I can see that really well. Might have to dig some of those up sometime...especially if I don't get good germ rates on these beans. That could be a really good genetic combination.

from my posts I see my memory serves me somewhat well: I found all Skunk #1 dominants in the f2 generation...and also mentioned that I'd found better plants in the f1 generation (which would have been the plants I used to make the f2)....and that surprised me then and now. Certainly the f2 generation should be the better place to look. Looking back on 5yrs of gardening time...is like looking back 20 yrs in life time....it's a voyage not best measured by clock or calendar

Skunk Jones

Went looking and found them

^ Skunk Jones = SZSK f2 X Casey Jones f2

* The Casey Jones f2 pollens would be the same pollens that I used to make Easy Mox Trilogy and Casey Jones f3...think I also used it on some Odessa (Casey Jones X Cindy Jones)......maybe some other stuff

saw all kinds of things in the container that held the Skunk Jones...stuff I made during that same time. Rather like archeology...digging back into time...circa 2010....wowzie I was dusting everything with everything

** Since the pictures of the SZSK mother I used are no longer up (they disappeared with PABLOS)....I'll have to suppose what she looked like. I'm sure she looked liked a Skunk #1...I'll have to go back and read up on whatever I wrote of her

....no idea how these will germinate or how many I'll actually grow. If I see one that looks promising..appeals to me..I'll let it mature

see what happens

yer making me miss the jones krusher now...(casey jones f x grape krush m)....

I remember you growing Jones Krusher...Retardo's work. I still have beans of Maw Kettle which is my version...same thing though...Casey Jones X Grape Krush. I made a lot of stuff with Casey and a lot of stuff with Grape Krush pollen.

Reading some of the posts from that era pretty much refreshed my memory. Not only refreshed my memory but also...solidified that I've not changed much on how I saw all this pollen spreading working out. I'd have to say that through the years that I've stayed true..and pure to my concepts. I see things much the same now..as I did...then.

If I could have a warehouse size space and a couple years of time...with all the work I've done...and all the genetics I've collected....my world would turn very rapidly...the progressions would be crazy good and fast. I have to believe that.

So many beans...so many crosses...not enough space or time. The curse being that reality.

* wish I had my old IC albums back. only place I kept photos of all those plants. there's no way I remember growing all of them.

** Not to get all sentimental...but it seems that a few years ago there were more of us underground private breeders sharing and jamming out a lot of work in our small spaces. Reading back...I realize more...how many of us have dropped out or moved on. A lot of dudes I used to talk with all the time are long gone...but I still have some of their work in my seed vaults. I hope they are all healthy, happy...and still at work. I miss those dudes
