a wicked pulse

yeah, a couple of months ago, snoop and i were sitting around burning one when he started talking about his career. i mean his show business career, not the other one.

he said he was not real happy with the hip hop scene and was looking for a new musical direction.

given my experiences with marley and tosh and the boys in the 60's i suggested he try reggae. i started marley on that beat he used in "jammin". i told him if it worked for marley it would work for him too.

and look what happened!

but they don't have the same regard for dogs down on the island that we do here and i guess they convinced him to change his name. i don't know where they got their regard for lions though because they don't have any down there. they must like snoops ok though.

i think what really got to snoop was that new up and coming hip hop artist, Sniff Doggy Poo and his confused but entertaining white sidekick, M.C. Vanilla.

when snoop heard about him he said ok, that's it with the dog shit!

and now you know the rest of the story!

Wow!
Snoop meets Paul Harvey. Who's next? Larry King?

Girls are looking smashing, D9. You're gonna be movin' to that mansion on the hill someday....

btw, Haile Selassie, re: Ras Tafari, re: JAH, was called "The Lion Of GOD" by the Ethiopian people. I guess this accounts for the dogg's name change. Irie.....

I love the way your room looks, I showed it to my partner and they commented on how clean your build is.

Is that your door between the two acs?

Do I spy a blue humidifier on the floor to the right?

thanks, i have never had a nice place to work before. it's always been some cramped, weird shaped space that ended up being a complete mess from all the experimenting. i hope to practice upright bipedalism here. before i was either crawling around on my hands and knees or brachiating from the rafters.

yep, that's the door! it's just a 2x4 frame stuffed full of insulation and the inside got a layer of reflectix. i still have to finish the seals there, around the ac's and the floor but it's holding co2 well now.

and that's the humidifier. there is a bucket with a tire valve under an ac connected to a piece of tubing going to another bucket with a tire valve in the room. that bucket is sitting on a microfiber towel which is overlapping another, etc.

there is a drip siphon from another towel in the bucket with a corner hanging over the rim. it's funny looking but it brought the rh up from 40 to 57-63%.

i'll show a pic of it later.

hey, bill, this container is ideal for those with height restrictions. the lids indent almost 1" so the top container fits down into it. they are 7" high so with a 6" medium depth you will have a total height to top of medium of 12" instead of 21" with the buckets. the 6" tailpieces work as is.

dark blue will not grow algae.

you do not need sidewall holes with this because of shallow depth. and only one 2.5 hole in the bottom container.

yep, simply using a wick of any kind with drain to waste produces healthy plants.

later

That would drop my present height from 17.5 inches using 5 gallon buckets for the bottom to 12 inches, hmmmm.

I used these containers exactly as directed and they worked great for a limited height situation. No sidewall holes, one drainpiece = solid mat of white roots. I know there was some concern in the old ppk thread that the containers wouldn't be rigid enough when loaded with media, and water but I didn't have any problems in that regard.

Hey D9. Room/plants are looking great. How do you plan to rip off the roots that grow through the tailpiece into res. if all of the plants are strapped to the wall?

Sterilite has an interesting tote that is 10 gallons and looks a bit more rugged than the Rubbermaid. I could run two plants with two wicksets or drainpieces. I would still save a couple of inches and have 5 gallons of media for each plant Hmmmm see what scheming will cause. Or 1 plant and ten gallons of media Hmmmm.

Very true. Not all totes are built alike. Rubbermaid roughtotes are strong flexible and don't seem to get brittle under uv like some other plastic totes.

Snoop has talked about your history in several interviews...Christian Science Monitor, etc. However, I heard it straight from the Dog's mouth. A few years ago he was in a lean period. He was trying to escape the whole East coast-West coast thing and threw his lot with some label out of Loisianna (I know this is all old news to you). Anyway, he took a gig to play for the grand opening of our local Pet Smart. A lot of people had dreads but I was the only one who wore them in a mohawk. I guess I stood out so he noticed me and talked to me.

The way he told it, you two were in the growroom one day out of your skulls on the Kush and 1500 ppms of CO2. He put on "Murder Was The Case" and a light bulb went off...voila PPK.

With this change in direction, now might be a good time to consider a name change. When I tell fellow growers about this master botanist and engineer on ICMAG. their eyes glaze over when I tell them the name. "Who wants to read 250 pages about some lazy-ass ways to kill your plants?"

Maybe something meatier..."The Blood Clot?"

After doing some looking I found I can get 8 of the 3 gallon Rubbermaids in my space. You have to order them though! The Sterilite did indeed look tougher on the web page but in reality Rubbermaid is way better.

The same blue 3 gallon totes that are in the Wally link are on the shelf at office depot, but $7.99 each.

I purchased some at Homa de Pot, $5.27 each, all the stores local to me in Seattle have like 30-40 in stock (website actually tells u how many they should have on-hand). however, while there website says they are black, not true, only lid is black, tub is tan/beige (pic on website does show correct just written descrip is misleading). I plan on using Reflectix to wrap them, keep out the light/algae. HD doesn't have Reflectix, Lowes has it.

Curious as to what medium U r running? I have a 50# bag of rice hulls that I got from a brew supply ($1/pound), still trying source turface MVP. Searching on web, seems a lot of people on the aquarium boards use it as a planting medium in their tanks. Considering trying the Napa #8822 Oil Absorbent, easy to get, but would rather get the turface, doesn't seem to be very expensive from what I've seen, just not readily available, only at wholesale landscape supply outfits.

Thnx, SEA

I have used with great success as a media component the Fullers Earth varient floor sweep available at Landmark auto parts and Thriftysorb available at Autozone and O'Reily auto parts. The Thriftysorb (montmorillonite clay) is the most like Turface which for some reason is very expensive around my area but I found it at a John Deere landscaping store. I prefer the Fullers earth to any form of Diatomaceous earth simply because it maintains it's integrity better and forms less fines after being wet for a while. The same for Montmorillonite clay. In my area the water is generally alkaline leaning so I use Spaghnum peatmoss instead of rice hulls to lower PH a bit. After using both of my preferred "floor sweep materials for a bit I decided to lighten up my pots some by using a 3 part perlite, 1 part Spaghnum peatmoss and 1 part Fullers eart mix. Perlite and peatmoss turned out to be so light as to not hold the plants properly but grew very good plants. I would use Turface but find $37. for a 50 pound bag too extravagent for my use.

Damn, thats way too pricy....I can get the 50# bags for $14 and I thought that was highway robbery since D9 said he pays $8, I think. I wish I could get the rice hulls by the lb. around here......

What company did you get your turface from? John Deere is known for ridiculous prices.

I use turface or napa 8822 and rice hulls (3/1) ratio. I have found no difference in results between turface and napa 8822. Get whatever is easier to get/cheaper. I used to have to drive a ways for turface so I used 8822 instead, now turface is locally available to me so I use that. Both will work great in this fantastic system D9 has birthed.
