A Taste of Africa from Malawi

I love Malawi as well, still….. I’ve always thought I’d love a Malawi leaning GT simply because you know the Thai influence in there, even being in the background…. is gonna add another dimension.

You guys just convinced me to pop a bunch of ACE seeds again. It’s been toooo long and I’m jonsing for some satties. Ive found some absolutely insane hybrids this last year digging through a bunch of genetics but the highs on them when compared to ACEs stuff just don’t compare.

Im Popping a couple Malawi, alongside a Panama x banghi, and a GTxP. It’ll be about four months before I have an open tent but they are officially in rotation.

Game on.
Thats it !

Gotta have some psychoactive stuff in the stash. To fly high and also to make the lightweights trip a little 😅

I will also be popping some Panama X Bangi soon enough. I received my pack last week from Mandala. That one was recommended to me by Cactus and Koondense, thanks to them.

Happy growing !

Hello everyone, Malawi was already cut on November 25, it was very interesting to leave the plant in a one-liter pot until the flowering period passed to get small plants and be able to try more varieties, Malawi is a very discreet plant with its smell. The smell is very subtle and special like a workshop oil, some wood resin and hashish, very compact and hard flowers for a pure, extremely resinous variety, it withstands rain and humidity very well, I will leave it for 3 or 5 months to cure and then
I'm going to do a smoke test, greetings

Hello all! Hello @dubi
I'm starting now a grow with ACE gear :)
Malawi / Malawi x Panama / Killer A5 Haze :)
I will start a GrowDiary soon. My questions about Malawi are....
What is the biggest difference between OLD MALAWI KILLER &
NEW MALAWI KILLER?
Was/is the OLD version a "better" one?
Is it still possible to find an OLD KILLER MALAWI pheno also in the new batches? Are the seeds 2024 comparable to the first Malawi releases?

Best Regards!

Thanks for choosing Malawi and its hybrids for your current indoor grow, @ResinousKingpin!
The Old and New Malawi Killer mothers are quite similar. The New Killer is a granddaughter of the Old one, standing out for its Killer traits over her progeny. The New Killer was born and discovered in 2014 and was then introduced into our Malawi breeding, but the Old one is still used as well for both regular and feminized versions.

What makes you think the first release, prior to the New Killer's discovery, was better than the current one over the last decade?

Always make sure to check the ph!

Made some flower rosin off my faster flowering ace Malawi, I like rosin fresh off the drying line. Very good yield and I left it real flat so it cured up real nice over night it's like a peanut butter consistency vs sticky wax yesterday. View attachment 19090527 View attachment 19090528

Very potent already, I'm surprised you don't see this strain in any dispensary here in OKC, because it's better than what they're selling yield and quality, worth a couple extra weeks of flowering imo.

Looks primo @jonesfam7715 glad to hear the quality of the extraction is better than what you can find in despensaries there. I’ve also mentioned before how well selected sativa dominant hybrids in the 11-12 week flowering range can outperform Kush indicas commercially in terms of both yield and quality of effects.

What makes you think the first release, prior to the New Killer's discovery, was better than the current one over the last decade?
The leaves makes me think about it.
I planted Malawi in 2012 if my memory serves me right. And they were terribly wild, hard-to-tame plants with very thin leaves. They were also incredibly strong after 4 months of aging. The current Malawi I have doesn't remind me of that old version. I don't think this one is bad or worse because I haven't tried it yet. However, I am interested in whether, despite slightly different appearance features, the power and quality has remained the same or even improved? And can you still find these old monsters with ultra thin leaves in current versions of Malawi?
I'm asking because I'm looking for this old phenotype. And even if I had to plant 200 seeds, I would do it :D
Other than that, I really like the Malawi x Panama hybrid. Beautiful plants! Great job. And Killer A5 Haze is as uniform as the clones. Thanks a lot!
Regards!

Flipped to 12/12 yesterday. 3 Malawi fem and one Zamdelica (front left). 24” with around 50 days of growth from seed.

4x6 tent, 76degF, 50%RH, migro led, 20gal living soil pots

Things are looking good. M01 is a bit different than M02 and M03. She’s a bit bushier and had the most vigor from seed and is shorter. Wondering if Dubi can assess the phenotypes this early?

M03 has a slight leaf twist at the tips. She’s close to the heater and fan so this could be a reaction or perhaps an expression. I’ve seen leaf twist when lights go screwy but this tent is pretty good for blackout.

Hopefully I timed the flip well, 3x stretch is ideal for my headroom…time will tell.

There’s a little white plant label in the soil of each pot for pheno reference.

Hello, have any of you seen something like this before on Malawi or KA5H? What kind of mutation is it? Can it be the whorled phyllotaxy?
My Malawi has 3 nodes on each stage, and KA5H has 4.
Best Regards!

For wilder, more classic tropical thin leaved sativa expressions the regular version is the right one.

You’ll never know for sure which combination is better unless you produce and grow both.

When is a good time to harvest Malawi in terms of trichome stage? I heard it’s good to let them get “over ripe” so mostly amber? I’m at day 86 and I don’t see any amber trichomes

Depends on your personal taste, ask yourself. If you don't know for sure harvest at different stages and learn from first hand experience.
