A Taste of Africa from Malawi

I don't reckon you did any S1 seeds from that female, did you?
No, I've never had any nanas on Ace plants and I didn't take clones. I killed the Malawi males from that grow on sight and made only F1 beans with the Blueberry, which actually throw purple phenos (about 1 in 4).

The offspring of the cross are generally robust, vigorous, tall and branchy, and the buds are big, dense and heavy, flowering in 65-75 days and the high THC chemotype plants are super potent. But the purple pheno's are smaller in every way and are very mild smoke. Many of the rest smoke similarly. While it has been a fun experiment I have to say the Purple Malawi is not the best breeding tool if you are seeking potency from your smoke.

I definitely plan on making more Malawi crosses (C99 for sure) but will look for a nice green fruity pheno next time. I've had one of those before, it grew with no issues, had excellent structure and yield and had very good potency with an exceptional high that made you feel good about yourself and your place in the universe.

Peace

Hey, Oldfogey! Thanks for all the info! That's really good to know. I did want to clarify however - I wouldn't have recommended that you take advantage of non-anthipogenically-induced heramaphroditic pollen. I wouldn't have expected that Ace's seeds would be unstable enough to produce "error-nanas," and it's important to cull plants that do show that trait when considering breeding purposes if not simply ANY growing. (So, good! You're doing the right thing!)

However, if you had induced hermaphroditic flowers with something like colloidal silver for example, those seeds would have been an excellent opportunity for clean S1s. (You probably already knew all this of course). Having said that though, your description of the purple pheno's less-than-optimum qualities in comparison to the more traditional green phenos is very illuminating and admittedly stifles the desire for S1s from that particular pheno.

Oh well. It was still a gorgeous plant, and probably had some above average bud to boot! Thanks for sharin'!

Unfortunately I didn't have the facility to reverse a female back in 2017 when I grew out the Malawi Regs that yielded the Purple mother and the Fruity pheno I've mentioned.

Here are some shots of a few of the F1 offspring.

I definitely know the feeling of having too little space/equipment. But hey, the plants still look like they ended up great.

The indoor cut of this was unintentionally pollinated by a herm Malawi Gold from Afropips. That herm donor was smelling like sweet herby earth ...similar to a carrot or root vegetable, very similar to Malawi from @dubi. I was hoping to enjoy the triched out buds, but sadly I didn't catch the Malawi Gold female in time before she went bananas on me. @Tangwena I've read you mention you don't mind the ladyboy plants, right?

Yea my friend I only grow for me so as long as the high is good I dont mind a few seeds.
In fact seeded so far has a better high for me and I lightly seed all my plants.
At the moment i have a couple of nice males who will get the chance to lightly seed my current grow.

5 or 6 wk old Malawi. Kept the cut to finally flower from a seed run months ago.

Tall, and slender at this point. Can turn into a skyscraper if given the headspace. Very easy feeder so far....(Let's not jinx it).. Not leafy.

Where she shines is her... Shine. Trichome formation started early on in flower. Earliest I've seen on a plant besides Afgooey as far as dumping that sugar early. Even the stems are shining with sticky sugar. Exciting. The other Malawi I ran from the same pack wasn't this decked out.

Smells like some kind of earth dried fruit...like a sweet carrot/apricot? So far so good. @dubi, she's looking great. You mention moderate PK levels through out? Also...can you please give some more info about the carrot in the Malawi?

Thanks.

Thanks for joining the thread @Altitudeup1 with your indoor and outdoor Malawis :)
The indoor clone shows indeed the desirable, extreme resin production and trichome size of this strain. The fruity carrot-orangy expressions have the best and most refined terpenes within the line.

Impressed to know the outdoor one survived freezing temps!
She still needs a bit more of time, hope she can make it.

This year I have a pheno with an exquisite and elegant lemon smell with a touch of incense, really delicate and delicious smell. She is suffering days of hard winds and rains, I think (and hope) she is enduring it quite well, she barely can't stand up, so I need to tie her, it helps her a lot to stay dry and up in the rain.

Glad to see you repeating with Malawi this outdoor season @HCMPA :D thanks for that!
The terpene profile sounds of my taste heheheh she still needs around 2-3 weeks more of flowering, hope you get a great harvest like last year.

you are right @Old Fogey if you want to breed for extreme potency, the green killer resinous ones (like the one you had before) are the most suitable expressions to choose for breeding rather than the purple expressions.

I was thinking around 4 or 5 weeks, but I pretty much prefer to chop a bit early than late, we'll see.

Best regards.

yummy bubblehash @tjmccoy :yummy: i still remember fondly when i did mine for the first time, it's a lovely experience, it's just hard to wait 2-3 months to let i cure properly after the water process. Curious to know what do you find stronger: Malawi hash or flower. Enjoy!

Hey Dubi! Hope everything is going well for you! The bubble is a different experience, more of a fast head Rush, face goes numb for a bit! yet a bong rip or doobie of Malawi flower can power right through it! I grab the Malawi quite often so I’m getting used to the effects. This was made with two somewhat immature seeded plants, it’s shows in the bulk of the collection came from the small screen, this hash kinda smokes like a little immature and the flower from the more developed flower hits harder!

I like Malawi very much and I’m excited to work with it much more!

This beauty will impress the most hard core growers here.
I expect to fill at least 5 tiny pipes with it!

It was a freak Malawi male with one branch that turned female. And that stopped flowering after the first push of flowers and ripened nicely. So I should get an idea of Malawi at last.

I have been smoking on the dried and curing buds of the Malawi indoor grow. If cocain or espresso or a small meth/LSD dose were weed...this would be it. She gives me focus, energy, and takes my head from nothing to creative thoughts, bursts of energy, and the need to do something. This went 2.5+ hrs easy then slowly and gently gave way to mental peace and clarity. There were points where I was so into my work I forgot I had smoked...lol. I'd love to get this cut tested for THCV as I suspect it's there in a measurable amount. No body effects at all....no body drag. Dreamy without being distracting. The only distraction was the "rawness" of the high. Maybe too much for those not used to a sativa like this (paranoid, edgy, restless, etc).

Took her somewhere in the 11-12.5 wk range. My flower tent is on 10/14. Smells like carrots, root vegetables, and earthy fruit. She was in soil I threw together...1/3; vermiculite, 1/3 compost and peat 1/3 perlite mix. She was very easy to feed. Didn't ask for much. WATCH THE NITROGEN as that's the only sensitive thing. All in all, read Ace's strain descriptions for grow help...it's on point. Grew TRSC Malawi Gold which hermied....Aces didn't (not knocking Angus or anyone at TRSC. It is what it is with seeds. Same conditions, same etc.

Next to Todd's OHz that blew me away...this is a #keeper.

Giving it more runs to perfect her grow.
@dubi great creation...this is my kinda bud.

I have my plant almost done, there is around 5% amber trichomes in the east side top flowers, and almost no amber in the rest of the plant, but almost every not amber trichome is milky, difficult to spot clear heads, I can harvest tomorrow/day past tomorrow, or I need to wait till next weekend because life/work, weather wise looks like no problem at all. I don't know what to do, wait or not, I don't like amber beyond 5%-10%, maybe is my head playing me, but I always associated amber trichs with... heavy head / blocked head? Feels to me like my neurons turn off, or my brain activity turn off. So, IMO I think I could wait 6 days and is not going to be much difference, what do you think guys?
