Malawi Fem lanky pheno @ 6.5 weeks

I’ve had to bend her over due to out stretching the lights!

How rare is a pheno like this? Can’t say I’ve seen one like it in the forum. What could I expect from this. It has out stretched every thing else. It really stands out as different to me! Smells like the other Malawi’s a kind of tea tree oil smell.

To the lower right is a short zamaldelica all grown at the same time for reference of how stretchy and lanky this plant is!

Well let’s try this again, shall we?

After burning that last Malawi I posted a few pages back I figured I need a repeat.

This one is from a fem seed. I’m feeding her at a much lower EC than last time, currently at 1.4 ….. and she is doing good with no sign of N toxicity or tip burn

Currently 5 days into flower. She’s sharing a 4x2 with three other Haze hybrids so I needed to flip them small so we will see how much stretch I get.

Great looking flowers Keif Cake :smoke: Congrats on your Malawi harvest. Did you have the chance to give it a try or still too early ?

Well done @Ol'_Haze_Nut ;) Glad you manage to finish Malawi outdoors at 44ºN.
Looks very resinous and ripe enough. Do you like her potency and effects ?

Hi tjmccoy glad to meet your 2 very different Malawi girls. Are you growing the regular or feminized version ? It's easier to find such very tall and lanky expressions in Malawi regular release in about 10-20 % of the plants, much less common in the feminized release. I find the best Killer expressions within Malawi line are found in medium sized plants, not too tall, not the smallest.

To keep the thread on topic we better check your Killer A5 Haze expressions in the KA5H thread if you don't mind @Labia Joose

Looking very healthy @OZZ_ (y) and feeded with correct ph and ec. Is it a clone from previous Malawi run or a new plant from fem seed ?

How did your Malawi finish @Dentex ? :) Did you find an expression of your taste ?

It’s a bit of a strange setup, they are in a 90 gallon round sip bed, vertical around 1k hps. Now I’ve added 2 315w cmh too. There’s 13 ladies in there! We have up to 8-9 feet of vertical space. So far I’m loving this set up, everyone gets really intense light, super easy to take care of one pot, just have to be kinda aggressive with pruning to make this work.

Have a great day! ☀️

Hey Dubi,,I am not sure how long it went, this is the last pic of her I got .I think I kept her a week more?

It is really different in terms of terps than the ones I hads grown til date.It is somewhat fruity/cheesy.The effect is more to the sativa side of things. Not as strong as the other ones I ve had but it is quite interesting.I prefer the more extreme sativa expressions with rollercoaster effect(maybe more old killer type?).I sure don't complain about this one haha,I 'm quite wasted since I vaped one bowl for some more impressions...It's got nice duration ,too. But when you've tried the special one you're hooked.
This one was the last seed from a 2016 pack.I have a new seedling going now from the last batch.

Thanks Dubi yes she is doing well so far. This is a clone off of a fem seed. The previous plant was a clone off of a regular seed. So different plants but both were ran from clone.

In my setup I do not think I am going to flower out seed plants anymore at all. I have a separate propagator tent that I can easily pop seeds months in advance, let them mature, take a clone to be used as a replacement mother plant…. Then toss the original seed plant and use only clones for my growing.

We all know clones are more well behaved for one, but I have been noticing something quite different these days. It seems on the Sativas especially I am seeing a somewhat different bud structure from the clones than from the original seed plants. I don’t know why, have you noticed this?

Some of the haze hybrids I’ve been running produced much more open bud structures off the seed plants, whereas the clones produced more dense and more resinous flowers too…. All under the same growing conditions. I’ve seen it on three different Doors x Ohaze plants, a killer A5 haze, and a Panama x Oaxacan. The original seed plants produced airy more open bud structures but the second time around from clone they are more dense and resinous and all around seem to be higher quality.

Maybe it is just because I am growing them better the second time around? I guess that certainly could be the case. Either way this will become my standard process. Seed plants will be allowed to mature in my propagator tent, then replaced with clones and the seed plants will be tossed. Therefore I will always be flowering out clones from well matured mothers

Certainly to flower immature sativas from seed is not the best way to get their best flower potential. In such cases, they typically stretch much more indoors than from clone and flowering takes longer. Another typical problem is that the sativa from seed overgrows the indoor space if let her grow until is enough sexually matured. So as you correctly pointed out, for indoor growing the way is to replace the big sativa mother started from seed with healthy new clones and work from there.

Thanks for the confirmation Dubi, this is how I’ll be working in my room moving forward.

Hi, and thank you dubi! I planted 2 seeds and reaped 2 females, one @13 and one @14 wk., and am ☁️highly☁️ satisfied with power and effects of both. Impressed by quick take-off and long duration of the high, and liked the overall dreamy contentment it provided while still being energetic and even feeling slightly psychedelic at points. The one harvested @14 wk. (pictured in post you replied to) was strongest and had the loudest terpenes that now remind of sweet ripe pineapple after 3 month cure. Currently excited to have 2 more Malawi seedlings started; one from the most resinous with pollen from a Durban Congo male, and the other is stock from your seed pack. My intentions are to keep incorporating your Malawi through various crosses with other heirloom and landrace sativas. Really hoping for a killer male this time around!

I noticed Phylos reports “Indiana Bubblegum” as possibly related? Could it really be? I find this really interesting as back in the day the Indiana bubblegum was the first strain I really liked and kinda took off with it, learned to clone and such with it. I just found that interesting and haven’t seen that discussed here?

On a totally different observation, I’m growing the Malawi in a shared bed with HxP, and Zamaldelica. It’s a living soil bed and I added about a hundred red earth worms to the bed. The worms are thriving but for some reason they seem to love to hang out with the Malawi’s, every time I see one they are with the Malawi’s. I read that night crawlers are native to Africa! One of those things that make you say hmmmm!

Cannot comment much on it @tjmccoy since i don't have first hand experience with the plant submitted as Indiana Bubblegum, but i have grown and smoked Bubblegum and i don't think is related with Malawi.
Ace Malawi still good shit in 2023? I got a pack I think I grabbed from seedsman 2021. Never got around to them but thinking about popping a couple. I want to experience a true sativa

yep, still using same recipes
