Ive grown Kc Afghani special and its a good plant that finishes early.
Ive also grown the KC33 from KC Brains. It was an excellent plant, huge with lemmony buds and a very good happy high with exceptional potency. My only complaint and the reason im not growing it is the fact that there is considerable variation in the line. Every pheno ive smoked has been excellent, but if you choose one of the the sativa leaning pheno's, it may not finish untilll late oct.
The original work by brains is cheaper than the copy by nirvana.
I too have some renewed interest in KC Brains strains. I looked at some old threads saw a couple of names that are speaking on this thread. THC, Sam and DS all had good things to say about it. Sounds like we have some experience speaking. Silver Back had some real good feedback also.
My only reservations is that I am a seeder no clones and from what I researched KC 33 seems to have a couple phenos and the sativa leaning one can go until 3rd week of October which is not something I can depend on in my 42 deg lat. The indica pheno finishes earlier but didn’t find any comments on the indica pheno.
Any personal outdoor feedback on harvest dates would be much appreciated.
Ive found that all of Kc brains maturation dates are fairly accurate for the strains ive grown and several finish by the end of sept. Back to my original concern: Every strain of his that i have grown had a couple or 3 pheno's and at least one of the pheno's, the more sativa in nature, will finish as much as 2 weeks later than the early finishing pheno. If you notice, quite a few of his finish dates span a time period from 8 -12 weeks. I havent found any bad pheno's, but if your hoping for an early finish, you have to use some caution or at least, that's the conclusion Ive come to after growing several of the strains. Ive found over time that many good strains share that aspect. Jack Herrer, sensi star and several other good strains express several pheno's.
I was turned on to Brains about 8 years ago and Ive yet to be dissapointed by any of the strains Ive gotten from him. After growing the Afghani special i did some research on KCbrains. KC33 is a cannabis cup winner in the 90's. He's the original breeder of the Mango strain. I also see a lot of breeders using or copying his work. DP's "Khola" is a Kc33 copy, nirvan crosses it with master kush, Shanitbaba uses his work and others
His new haze won several competitions recently. Its probably indoor but i have it ordered. Ill bet there are pheno's in the group that will finish and i bet the potency is through the roof..

I saw the finish times do have that wide spread you were talking about. Have you ever made any F2s from his gear and were you satisfied with the results? Ever try and breed towards the earlier pheno?
I am looking to possibly find a good strain and breed towards an Oct 1st finish. KC Brains seems like a good breeder, solid genetics to try this on.
Man would it be cool to be able to grow a Haze in my lat cant wait to hear what your findings are.
Sensi seeds mexican sativa gave me large plants and massive yield, not that early though.
Kc33 gave good yields but with a better high than the mex.
GG does excactly what greens says but i found the later finishers to be of best potency.
All the danish strains i was gifted were way better than most commercial outdoor seed.
royal dane, leb27, erd purt and various other danes i tried were simply awesome..
hamstring, I didnt make f2's,Of the Kc strains ive grown, the earlier finishing pheno's were more indica in appearance and effect and not really a nice indica feeling. sort of a dull unhappy high. The nice effect from 33 seems to come from the hybrid plants with a bit more sativa. I did cross breed a 33 with some excellent results.
I used male pollen from Sensi's Guerilla Gusto. It is a huge, tough indica plant that finishes in early to mid september with suprising potency. Its finishing date and size is dominant in crosses its used in. I dusted a highly sativa looking kc 33 female that finished mid Oct but was lemmony and had a wonderful happy potentcy.
I had 3 phenos appear, and 2 of them were just excellent. Huge plants with a 2lb yeild, tough, lemmony, green and finished sept 25th. I worshiped the mother plant i took from that cross and grew it for 3 years. The KC33 is pretty vigourous, but the cross with Gusto made the plant a monster. The mother was lost and my heart is still broken and my outdoor grows havent been the same ever since.. Its a cross i would recommend anyone make and one i need to get back too..
DS
Exactly kind of info I am looking for sounds like a very nice cross. I am trying to emulate your success except with seeds. My growing technique is seed based. I have been working with a fellow guerrilla over at UDG trying to hone my breeding skills this kind of info is so valuable. After getting a little educated ( still so new to this) by my fellow guerilla I am thinking an IBL cross might be the way for me to go to get less variation in the F1 seeds but I am still very new to breeding everything before was pollen chucking.
3 phenos with two being good and a Sept 25th finish dude thats a winner
Did you grow out any of the F1s for outdoor production or just find a good mother and clone?
I didnt grow out the f1's hamstring. My goal was to have a plant that finished quick, before deer season in late sept, Yeilded very well,(2lb) and was resistant to everything but still had a pleasant high with decent potency.
Guerilla gusto and Kc 33 are the 2 toughest outdoor plants ive ever grown. Neither are effected by insects, mould or disease. I had a bunch of gusto seedlings that lived through 4 days with nightime temps of 28 degrees! The plants went on to grow and i mean this is one tough strain. It even defies drought as we had that same year and these were the only plants that never wilted and produced a decent yeild even though I didnt water them more than a couple of times. Im suprised its not better known among growers with difficult conditions. I rate GG's potency at about 7.5.
33 isnt a slouch either and shows real vigor. Its super lemony flavor and a potency that won it the cannabis cup in the 90's was a real positive. Another stroke of luck with the cross- KC33 is also a good breeder plant as noticed by shanti and DP and many others. I rate the big sativa pheno's of 33 at 9+
Immediately upon finding a plant with intense vigor and with 33's potency and flavor, i danced a jig and started cloning away.
The real tragedy is that i didnt label the seeds and they were in a bucket with a dozen other sacks of homeade seeds. I dont know what any of them are. I must have been stoned.
The strain I have been growing for years is done by September14 @ 44 degrees north latitude; before the bowhunters hit the woods with a vengeance. Where I live the plants have to be done by the end of September because all the indigenous plants start to lose their color by then and the MJ sticks out like a sore thumb. I would recommend crossing any particular strain you're fond of with Durban Poison for earliness and then inbreed the plants that fit your needs. It takes a few crops to stabilize but in the end you have a strain that is tailor made for your area and taste. I'm not a big fan of the autoflowering plants because of the ruderalis genes they have in them: ruderalis are shit genes. If you try and inbreed your own plans with any strain that has ruderalis in them you are setting yourself up for a letdown.
Durban Poison is hardy and can grow in even the shittiest of conditions. Though it doesn't have the highest THC content, it is the best plant in my book to use for crossing with your favorite strain to get its early harvest. The strain I have developed and have been using for years came from crossing "Pure Durban Poison" (I would only get it from Dutch Passion because I know they have never hybridized it) and an F1 hybrid of NL#5xSkunk#1; I have selectively inbred the plants over the years and now I have a stable strain that I can set my clock to. It is always done by the second week of September.
i have about 5 phenos of kc33 about 2.5 feet tall(in and around)growing right now.I plant is a real short and stocky 1,2 are bushy indica dom plants,2 indica/sativa hybrids that would do excellent in a sog application, single cola dominant and great vigor.they are in 4 inch square pots and they are 3 feet high and single cola with real tight node spacing!and then i have the famed lime green sativa pheno which i am breeding with a male mighty amstel freeze.that 1 should be a real winner.i will have seeds for this summer to test!im guessing they would finish between late september and mid october, with maybe a small amount of semi autos.i am also going to breed the kc33 sativa with mighty mite,im gonna call it MIGHTY KC.silverback sent me some seeds 2 years ago,it was northern lights/maple leaf indica.i still have 4 seeds left.it was a real champ, done by october 10th,close to a pound per plant, and some of the sweetest, stickiest buds i have seen.amazing sweet smell and soaring high.it was my best seller by far this past fall.mighty amstel freeze is a great plant for outdoor, done by mid september, great high, mold restistant.looks like indoor hydro, great bag appeal.unleash da green has some great genetics, they just came out with the new outdoor line and its awesome!i bought mighty mite,gg#3/bluebonic,gg#3/skunk#1,gg#3/godzilla grape, sweet white grape(white rhino/sweet tooth/godzilla grape).i am looking forward to another stellar oudoor season!oh, and i have to say that white widow from greenhouse is incredible!I grew 1 fem plant last year and harvested mid october.......hands down the best outdoor pot i have ever smoked.7 ounces off of her.
i have to say mighty mite is a good plant for breeding,it has better than decent potency.there are strains out there that if you put the work in can get some semi auto phenos from them.here are a few strains with auto tendancies that have great potency.
brendas skunk/nl,dutch treat(east island seeds)mighty amstel freeze,mighty freeze(boreal genetics)GG#3,GG#5(greens)maroc(female seeds)early wonder skunk(solar warrior)avalon(next generation)
those are just from the top orf my head, there are many more.
Im running Next Generation Seed Co.Texada Timewarp F5 I got the 100 pack deal.. I am looking for some good Phenos to choose from..
Anybody run these? I'm at 45N so I hope they finish early enough
w/ that crazy lemon potency that Ive heard about
This all depends on the pheno I had a mightymite that thAt was a 8 ft x-mas tree the buds were huge but the molded early all right smoke.could not grow them together or you would have 10 ft plants with only 5 ft of bud on them.I also had early girl she was the best smoke the buds would make them fall over when it rain the more stress she gets the earlier she finished.keep it green
May i say that I find Sams OH X SK#1 to be a real trooper. I am at 31degS and this last season i dealt with 1800mm of rain through the wet season and this plant out shone everything. Looks to be a great yielder to. From a freebie pack as well, you can't go wrong
