Pulled down a G-1000 recently and my Big Bang Diesel. Most shots are of it. Really densed up and ran away with the yield this time. Probably could have beat out the Super Skunks. Tons of foxtailing this time, but not a concern; it's summer here. The non-purple shot (091945) is of Albany Sour x Sensi Star (Blackbird Preservations). It matched the cola size of the Big Bang Diesel, but isn't nearly as dense. Still going though. In (092244) you can see the room currently sans the G1000 that finished early. Big Bang Diesel is on the left, G1000 on the right, Albany Sour x Sensi at the bottom (right) and GG4 (CSI Humboldt) at the top.

Small update. Was absent most of the last grow on here, bc I was working on an ecosystem pond and stream. Have round 3 starting soon with some random stuff (Big Bang Diesel, Super Skunk (2nd), G-1000, Sensi Star, Mango OG x Sour, and Big Bang Diesel x NL#5. Been focusing more on my next seed run though bc I'm trying to breed the Big Bang Diesel into a regular line. Popped several Big Bang Diesel x Northern Lights #5 seeds I'd made and saved the girls (to breed that cross forward as well) then I selected two males, one that looks and smells the most like the Big Bang Diesel, and one that has the most skunky smell (like when BBD finishes) and have them all transplanted along with Big Bang Diesel in the tent beginning to size up.

Small update, lol. From growing out the BB Diesel a few times I learned something about thiols, I think. Heat can prevent them from accumulating (barely got any last grow), but my friend who I helped set up their first grow grew it and got tons of thiols in a cooler room/house. In addition to that the two plants sharing a container (27 gal tote) with the BB Diesel also PICKED UP THIOLS from it. I had heard about how plants can signal terpene production through the air and ground, and how they can even share genetic material via fungal connections in the soil, but never heard, or read anything about thiols within regards to this. He had 2 Bubblegum and a Super Skunk in a tote touching the BB Diesel tote, which was in with an Oreoz and Bubblegum. The Oreoz and that one Bubblegum seemed to pick up thiols through the shared soil/shared close proximity of their roots. The other container picked up none, indicating this is probably passed via the soil. His shared Bubblegum has more thiols than my BB Diesel this run. If this is just the sharing of thiol production via signalling this could confound certain attempts to breed for skunkiness/thiol-heavy plants generally. However if this is via sharing genetic material this could be a useful way to (reliably) cause epigenetic changes to the plant which could help breeding for them in plants. My main breeding goal with the BB Diesel is to put these compounds into other plants, and adding better flavor translation/mouth coat to the BBD itself. The volatile sulfur compounds really seemed to come on to the plant late btw, and he ran his almost 11 weeks, where I pulled at like 9.5? Hope this helps anyone reading who is growing/breeding for the elusive skunk pee smells.

Day 18 of flower in the 4x4 I usually use for seed-making*. Ended up getting STS spray and am going to try my hand at fem breeding next round so I turned this tent into my flower room. There are 3 Big Bang Diesel in here and the rest are Big Bang Diesel x NL#5. ...742 ...753 ...728 and ...719 are all pics of the crosses, while ...713 is one of the original clones. I ended up having to take 2 rounds of clones off of this whole tent bc my cat managed to murder all of the first ones... (along with my* taking out the 2 males I had selected) it makes the canopy less full than it could be, but I'm still really happy how it is shaping out. Training with overhead and vertical light is really easy bc I kind of just defoliate and then there is plenty of light right there, wherever. ...753 is probably the best-looking cross overall imo. 6 weeks ago it was in a solo cup with another plant.

Been running this at 100% on the 630W LED, and 75% (450W) on the HPS the last couple of days. These are in the same kind of 27 gal totes I used before, and on the same 2 gal ~weekly handwater schedule. These are pics from day 28; is day 30 now. Had been running the HPS at 300W and edged the LED up to 10 from 6 over the last couple weeks. Pretty good uniformity from this cross for being a polyhybrid. Assume being a bagseed s1 gave some consistency to the Big Bang Diesel. 013519 Shows the one plant that has NL#5 colored hairs. The leaves lean heavily towards the BBD from the fat-leafed NL#5 I'd selected. Everything smells almost exactly like BBD, and has very similar resin content. The original gets coated and begins to bulk up a day or two faster maybe, but some crosses out-do it in trichs (003854). My favorite cross has a different bud structure and has had some amount of thiols since flip, while the original is just giving the first hints now, 013821, 013848, 013719 and 014010 are pics of her. Great vigor and structure all-around. Looks like it will out-yield BBD--and I like that it has even shorter hairs. Already like the thin diesel-like hairs on the original. Feel like big hairs burn too hot, even though they look cool in flower.

Pics from day 36 - 37. Focusing on BBDxNL5 #3 and #5: So about half of these seedlings have more resin than Big Bang Diesel I would say. Most have slightly bigger stalks than the original too. #3 has more coverage on the bottom of the fan and sugar leaves than BBD also. It's behind on yield, but BBD and most of the crosses bulked up really early. The HID as inter-canopy lighting and the overhead lighting are amazing for bud density. Every bract on the plant has like no give whatsoever. The originals are starting to purple up, a bit already and get some thiols, but I think the others are going to show soon. Both the parents have nice fades ime. Hope everyone reading has been well.

Day 46 more pics of my favorite cross based on growth. Pic 004912 compares it to a clone of Big Bang Diesel. Can see the obvious improvement over the parent imo. Watered everything yesterday. Have spaced waterings at 5-7 days throughout this grow, except for once around day 38 or so where I watered after only three days to correct what I felt like was too much dry-back. This plant might finish faster than the parent. Honestly almost all of the trichs it puts on look instantly milky to me so I might need to use magnification the first time I harvest. Seeing most of these progeny outdo the BBD in resin makes me wonder if grafting that GG4xChem D on the NL5 male did anything positive for it. That one resined out male flower that grew after the scion reached maturity was at least intriquing--might be a bit of voodoo I try with all reg breeding, if more crosses perform better than expected lol. As always if anyone has any questions please ask. It's such a simple grow style I really feel like I'm covering just about everything I do, short of a blow-by-blow of defoliation.

Quick update: I took this plant (Moon Hooch #5) on day 52. Incredibly quick flowering. Lead contender for being the keeper. Best bud to leaf ratio I've ever grown, didn't retain it's thiols from early on, but has a beautiful sweet NL5 tropical smell. Some of the other plants have diverged some in smell from the Big Bang Diesel too, and that's been neat. They still are similar but seem to lean towards various genetics in their lineage a bit more, one way or another. The trich coverage is great on all of them imo. Some have the White Widow-esque trichs on top and the Super Skunk under-leaf. The fifth plant has great coverage, but didn't inherit the sugar leaf coating from BBD. Thankfully there arent many sugar leaves, just those Super Skunk dog tongue ones. Smoke report and a weight will probably be done by the time I harvest the next plant.
