I grew up in a family horticulture business growing a legitimate (perennial) crop that needed harvesting twice per day every day. I won't mention the exact crop, but it was all hydroponic, under glass, and plastic hoop houses. Despite three of us spending between 2-4 hours each day harvesting, and 4 hours processing and packaging, we still had plenty of time to check plants for disease and pest, mix up hydroponic solution, check ph and ec, maintenance, etc. During the first decade we sprayed a lot for pest and disease but later adopted integrated pest management (IPM).it's going to be 16,000 flowering plants, plus all the plants in veg,and clones...i imagine it will take a full work week just to check everything...all i will be doing is being the plant whisperer...if i have time after that then i will help out with all the other stuff that needs to be done...but really i'll be lucky to get through one building per day
If the other staff are switched on, they should be alerting you to any problems. If you constantly work around plants, spotting things like mites or thrips becomes second nature. With 10,000 plants one of us could cover the whole area, walking up and down all the rows, in less than a couple of hours. Our main work tool for checking for pests was a 60x lens, but you will get to be able to spot trouble quite quickly.
I can't stress how important IPM became, as it cut down spraying nasties to almost zero, but the key is being both proactive, and holding your nerve, when there is an inevitable pest outbreak, and trusting that your introduced beneficial insects would sort it out.
Really hope it goes well for you. We'll all miss the bitching about trimming and cleaning.
