I decided to harvest the Mex in the end as there were numerous male flowers showing in several of the colas and I didn't fancy having to keep an eye on the lowest yielding plant to keep the other ladies pure.

There's about a 1/2oz of wet bud in total, not counting the sugar trim so all in all, not too bad for a free seed :D

Overall the Mex was pretty fun to grow, very much a novelty rather than an actual bud producer. The huge inter-nodal gaps and bizarre calyx structure was very reminiscent of the cannabis of days gone by so I imagine a lot of the issues with the plant stemmed from the indoor environment. I'd recommend this if you want some novel genes to introduce into your breeding program but don't grow it expecting any decent harvest yield.

Week 10

Week 10

Hey Div welcome aboard! Just in time for the week 10 update.

So as you can see, the Mex is gone. Still waiting on the buds to dry so I can get a final weigh in but I'm not expecting much more than 1/4oz, if that. Not a great yield but there's finally some more space for the VB to spread itself out. I've added some garden wire to some of the heavier stalks as the plant was getting seriously unstable!

The Huckleberry is looking nice and frosty. These buds were previously little popcorn nugs so it's nice to see full colas starting to form. Very nice recovery hehe.

The VB Thai in all it's glory.

Full view of the hound. She looks pretty mature but I'm thinking she can wait 'til the VB comes down and just see if I get any extra bulk.

And a little bit of soft-core bud porn. Check those hot colas bathing in the light!

Looking good BDUK,
I'm down to the VBT and the lower section of my hound too :p
Though I know you had that line-up before it was cool ;)

I'm trying to get everything down as quick as I can :) Time pressures ;)
I might harvest sooner than you at this rate :p

Btw are you uploading pictures from our Guerilla Campaign?

Haha I think you have slightly more to show for it so far though :p

I'm starting to think the VB might not be fully mature by the time I have to cut it down but yeah, time constraints >.< I hate having to move house! :(

I'll put some photos up later, I was thinking we should go see how they're doing some time next week and I can take some more snaps then?

Yeah I'm up for that :p we need to see how they're doing :)

I'm hopeful to get at the very least get decent seed yield from the VBT :) probably quite a lot of sugar too :)

I love the lemony smell on the VBT, it'd be nice to get that in the offspring :) and the really easy cloning :p

Cheers GloNt, hope you're having a good day too man!

So I got back home and was pretty blown away by the growth of the Huckleberry in just 2 days:

Not sure how easy it is to see but the buds are showing a nice speckling of purple which is real cool; purple cannabis is a bit of a rarity in the UK in my experience.

Yum yum!

As you can see, the VBT is now being supported from the top of the closet so I'm not so worried about the plant killing itself due to being top heavy anymore hehe

One of the lower branches might also need propping up however it's allowing the lower buds to get a hell of a lot more growth going.

Week 11

Howdy folks and welcome to week 11. We're almost there! :bump:

There's not been a whole lot going on, the two ladies are just trodding along. The plants have been getting nothing but tap water the past 3 days now.

Most colas of the VBT is now supported from the top of the wardrobe to keep the branches held closer to the lights.

Wooooh up high.

So the Mex buds were pretty pathetic. In the end most of it went into the trim jar for future hash making but I've saved myself a smoke or two's worth and will put up a report at some point.

Hey Tony, I cut off another bud site in preparation for an end of year festival type thing, however it was consumed in a bit of a haze so couldn't give you any real feedback besides the 'it's awesome shit' sort. I'm going to be chopping the ladies down on Friday so they can start curing in time for me moving out :)

Additional comments:
The buds are highly unusual in appearance however this is not necessarily an unappealing look. Given a greater density, these buds would look just fine. The smell is fairly pleasant, very outdoorsy, somewhere between a meadow and a forest.

Smoke Test

Utensils - King-size rizla with added tobacco (Golden Virginia). Not the best way to get the flavor but it's how I'm used to smoking.

Smoke test comments:
The smoke was very easy going with a pleasant smell not at all similar to the pungent smell of many other strains. Towards the end of the smoke, the floral taste began to be a bit much for me but then I'm not really much of a flowery person being a hay-fever sufferer. Overall I was pleasantly surprised by how enjoyable it was and that was with my person bias against it.

Overall rating from 1-100:

Final comment:
The Mex Sativa has a very pleasant stone to it, much more of a stimulant than relaxant. My thoughts feel completely unimpeded when compared to the sluggishness that other strains may bring about. Appreciation of food is modestly improved however I'm not noticing much of a difference in terms of physical awareness, audio, taste or visual perception. Instead this strain seems to provide more of a subtle pick me up, possibly something to try for a wake & bake for those that enjoy that.

Week 12

Week 12

So today is the day my friends.

The VB Thai finally got the chop and the grow room was disassembled. It's been a fun few months and I'm 100% set on setting up shop again once I have a new house sorted. Thus far I have a few mixed seed packs from ACE and Feminized seeds plus a few from fellow growers in the area and a 400W HPS set up to get me started.

I use a model cutting tool for trimming as it's small size helps with not cutting off bits of your bud in the process. Saying that...

Whoops... This was the only mishap thankfully!

It took a few hours, but it's done! The top kolas were incredibly easy to trim with just a few water leaves poking out. The lowers kolas were a whole different story...

And now everything just needs to dry up! I will put up some weights once drying is complete. I feel this has been a really successful experiment, with no prior experience and a minimal investment (no more than £50) I've gotten a reasonable bit of bud. So to all you people out there wanting to grow but not wanting to splurge on growing equipment, economy CFLs work perfectly well!

Drying is complete! Total dry weights come to:

Mex Sativa: 6.4g

Huckleberry Hound: 9.7g

VB x Thai: ~28g(need a bigger container for weighing...)

Expect photos of the VB Thai soon! It looks lovely :3
