IMO, based on what I read, what conventional LED's lack are UV light (they have these now) and some far-red light for flowering because as you know the theory is that phytochrome far-red degrades into phytochrome red as a measure of the length of the night, cannabis being a short-day plant. Far-red (Pfr) and red (Pr) reverses during the day within a couple of seconds, so being that there's more far-red light during the winter, that's what actually tells the plant to finish, is Pfr light. This far-red light would hit the plant, reverse into Pr, and the plant at the end of the night would use the amount of Pr it has to tell how long the night was.

In short, as was said before, HPS has a little UV in it, it also has a little far red (700+ nm). In my opinion, in "theory", this little bit helps it go a long way.

Also, I wonder if it's possible to run a reverse LED-frame under the plants in between each row. That's the advantage of LED's I think is that you can fit them in all these hard to reach places - they're small and low heat. I think LED's aren't being used to their full capacity since so far they are being used like conventional fluoro lighting, all in a panel from above.

Anyways,

Great thread you have here! You are a hero of sorts... I mean, LED's produced not-so-good results the last two times around, but that's not enough to put you down from keep trying to improve in experimenting with this new lighting and venture into new grounds.. You are the man!

newbgrow nice to see you here.

Here is a little update

girls are in 33 days of flowering and I noticed some seed production. It just looks like that some males that I have in other room opened their sacks and pollinate my boxes :( I didn't notice no opened sacks in the males. well here you can a see a pic of seed

and a pic of macro bud under LEDS

there are also seeds in the HPS room. I just hope that there are not too many seeds.

The father must be Pakistan Valley.

Hey man I really like your experiment. Seeds f ucking suck man. Your plants will put most of their energy into producing SEEDS instead of RESIN = ( . If you tossed the males soon enough and most of the buds werent pollinated, you may have just a few seeds spread throughout your buds. Best of luck to you!!!

This is looking really nice on both sides. It doesn't seem like the difference between the 2 sides is big - perhaps a little bigger on the hps side but definitely not much.

Nice grow man! I've thought of LED growing and at the moment I'm not doubting it's efficiency one bit. Considering the possible heat-problems HPS-lights produce and the cost in a longer period of time, I'd rather take LEDs, especially for a stealth grow.

What kind of LEDs are those? I was just wondering if you can just go buy em in an electronic shop or did you need to order them from somewhere? I'm from Finland so no need for specifics, just on how regular are those LEDs. What's the blue/red ratio in that setup?

Keep up the great work!

thanks for stoping by

green lion,

here is some info that you need

400: 25°, 40mW/sr
465: 18°, 11cd typ
630: 20°, 14cd typ
660: 30°, 4cd typ

the number of each led ratio used here is 1:1:4:4 in the order that are written above.
I buy them in Germany, better leds for lower price.

today was 50 days of flowering, and the girls look like this.

HPS room

and LED room

and some LED macro

everybody have a nice time, and let's countdown :) about 10 days till end :D

hardly wait :)

how well do these compare? are these leds worth giving up my beloved hid? i am curious if i can effectively use leds for my veg and dedicate both my 1000s to flower. anybody have any obvious hangups using leds in this way?

Thanks for the info. Which shop do you order from? I could order some myself. I noticed a circuit breaker on the board, are there any other components involved? What would the led ratio for vegging be?

The two grows look pretty much the same to me. Looks like it's gonna be a very tight match. Can't wait to hear the results!

Have you had any unusual problems with the LED plants or with the chamber?

medved, i have to commend you for an outstanding round 2, but i must ask if you have been feeding them. they look very healthy despite you saying they would be water only? was your soil fully amended? i think it looks great regardless i'm just curious if there was a dramatic difference between nutrient/water consumption between the 2 spaces.

helou everybody

Green Lion all this questions you will have to ask LED_experiments because he made me this panels. And I haven't noticed nothing strange, but all the buds looks pretty small :(

ninjagrow, thanks for kind words

Murphy thanks for stopping bye, here you can see some more pics :)

rkrone, yes I feed them with nutes, but not in the beggining, when I found the girls was low on nitrogen, I start to feed them. Don't remember exactly when was that date, but I think that I write here in jurnal.

slimshady, It looks like that I will soon come to the end :)

well here is a short update, pics are 3 days old (have some problems with upload them on ICmag) the girls are now in 55 days of flowering

and here are a few pics

Have a nice sunny day everybody :)

and stay cool :)

Thanks for the yummy pics medved!

LED light has a low penetration, that could be the reason for the small buds. But that's pretty much the only bad thing in LEDs. I'm gonna consider a LED PC grow in the future. For stealth reasons.

well today is 60 days of flowering, and scisors are sharp :D I just trimmed all 6 girls in the LEDs room and have to trim 6 girls under HPS. I take a little break for little update :)

here are the pics

about 2 of the AK-47 under leds was like this big, 2 were a little smaller, and 2 was very small (not a lot buds on it)

hmmm, do you know what is that? it looks like amber (like a amber from spruce)

here is a bigger pic

and another

here you can see seed production :)

and all the seeds from LEDs room (about 100 i think)
23447all-seeds-leds-med.JPG

and here you can see all 6 of AK-47 drying from led room

and now I will go back to work, HPS girls are waiting for me :)

have a nice day
