Your grow is looking really great now:) I've also been considering topping with leca - I see a few potential advantages:

Less evaporation from soil - sometimes my larger plants are getting a little too dry in only 2 days. Cracks forming in the soil when it dries out makes it very hard to water because everything just runs through. Less evaporated water from the pots (and less evaporated runoff from the bottom tarp...) should also lower the humidity - budrot risk should be lower.
Less salt buildup should also make it easier to reuse soil + the leca might make it harder for those damn fungus gnats - might make it easier though since the top layer of soil under the leca is more moist, not sure?

You probably need to let them dry out a little between waterings though, to ensure that oxygen gets down there once in a while.

I never really flush my pots- the last 7-10 days before harvest they're on a diet on pure water, and I do also give them pure water once in a while at other times.

ARTofMAKINGfire - thx - did some reading in your 2 threads yesterday... your a cool dude. Fighting to get tha Piff out to "us" homegrowers A++ nice job man. Hehe as I was looking through your thread, a couple of time you mention your pots. Im laughing cause im pretty happy for mine to, really think they are ideal in size - both possible to have many plants, and each plant still get that "rootzonearea size" so it can produce some bat like colas...
By the way, are you running digital ballast? and what distance can you keep the bulb at?

Blackone - dejligt at se dig her - thx for comments m8.
The reason I started up with the top leca layer, was also because I hated that the drycracks at the sides of the pots made a good watering hard to do.
Hmm you have a point in there about letting the pots dry out. Mine has not been as dry as they normal would yet. So maybe I should try wait for signs on em being thirsty next time?
I have 24/7 oxygen on my res. And the water is preparing 6-7 days currently as It takes that time to drink the water. Also have H202 on the way, so the water i feed em are fed up with oxygen at feeding time. But yes, I could see this as a problem... I will have a hard time, waiting 8-10 days between waterings to make sure they are pretty dry. Well, must be only one way - testing??? or anybody knows?

Have a nice day

Smeden - I'm running a digital ballast. Air-cooled with glass.

I keep the bulb about 10" - 12" away from the tops of the plants.

Nice job Smeden. I love your idea of using the silica to keep excess moisture evaporating, this will deffinitly cut the work load aswell prevent toxic salt build up good man!!. I am going to use them in my next run forsure. Since the silaca slows evaporation, would this mean a stronger nutrient solution is in order??? I was also wondering what kinda of nutrient regime your using. thanks.
johny.

Hi again

Thx again...

Johnyhash - dunno if its caused by the less'er evaporation, but my plants never looked more healty.
I am/was feeding em:

From cuts - lil rhizotonic + lil terra vega
in 1 l pots - normal rhizotonic + normal terra vega
in 8 l pots first week of floweing - half dosage SensiBloom A+B + 1½xdosage of Bud Blood + normal rhizotonic - PH 6,50 and EC 1,90
2-3 watering in flower - SensiBloom A+B + Carboload + lil terra vega (they looked like lil N needed) - PH 6,50 and EC 2,0 (2) and 2,1 (3)
Yesterday I flushed + normal dosage carboload - PH 6,50 and EC 0,52
Now I will let em show some thirst signs before they get nutes again. Next feeding will include Hammerhead PK

I know im little to the hardside on the ec, but by now none signs of nute burn, so I will keep rising it a bit until some signs occurs.

Was a little tired of the yellowish hps pics, so switched to mh for a sec. Just to take som pics in more natural colours. Hope you enjoy...

Rehigh all

GlassAnGrass - Thx, in theory my 20 pots would fill 1,2x1,0 m if I cram'ed em. But for 1 squaremeter, I think 9-16 plants are more apropriate. If we are talking 8 liter pots n soil.

Well, mr hawkeye aka Blackone was right. My lovely FoeberryxAK47/DSDv2 started producing nanners :nono: who told her to???

Typical, 2 males (my own fault) + this herma all 3 from the left corner, so out of 4 plants in the corner, 1 is left back... bet she likes the extra light.

So heres my bleeding scrog net.
dsc04370ny4.jpg

FoeberryxAK47/DSDv2 - the herma (perhaps caused by 2 days of 32-33 celsius? the summer came back last weekend) only 2 days now back on 15-25 celsius.

I'm sorry for your loss - and sorry to be a party spoiler.
But it looks like your other girls are more than happy to fill the space:)
The diesel lines do have a reputation for carrying intersex genes... just don't say it too loud in here haha.

Smeden, it all looks beautiful! If you don't mind could you please take some pics of your drip system? It looks like you have two lines running to each pot? I am a soil grower and really would like to get into hydro but i need some education first. Also do you keep cuttings in an ebb and flow? Sorry if this is a hassle but it really looks very professional and I figured you would be a good person to talk to. Thanks and beautiful once again!

jahman - thx man.

Blackone - no problemos. Better to find em in time than too late, but she have not produced any more and the nanners in place seem to not grow bigger. Well too early to say, guess im just hoping. But at the end im not into the boygirl thing at all. She stands outside the room for obeservation. Hehe, was figuring to plant her in the city park or something...)

liquid069 - sorry man, dont think I can help you, im growing soil and the leca is just there to minimize water evaporation.

Cheers all

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Smeden again.

heya smeden....the best style i found for the purple bastard is that she needs to be cropped when she has 4 or 5 mains ....i once pulled 73 gr out of a 7 Liter pot ..dry ...but she had about 2 months of veg

Thx Core m8.
Do you think she would work as single cola strain? I think so as, theres almost none branches on her, only leafs n buds )

Time for a lil update...
