Yes I have wire shelving going in just want to let the caulk dry and then wrap the cracks again with some foil tape.

Any ideas on how to cool the ballast in the enclosed upper compartment that the fan is also in?

Well, bout the only thing I can think of is you're going to need to ventilate it somehow. (duh!) hehe If odor isn't a concern, how about adding a small 80cfm inline fan in there then just blow it to the outside? Could you connect to the primary vent duct? In any case you'll need some kind of airflow intake as well. But yeah, if you don't do something the heat's really gunna build up in there.

Im thinking about adding another metal vent to the orginal duct so as its blowing through I can have a small 7 inch duct pointed at the ballast so it takes the hot air from the lower level and the heat from the upper to final exhaust.

Hmmmmm....interesting. Do you think you'll lose significant efficiency in removing heat from the grow area of the box? :chin:
I guess when we undertake this sort of thing it's just a big fun experiment, isn't it? Hope you keep us updated until you get your box dialed in. Am more than willing to learn from anything I can from you project!!!!!! :lurk:

I removed all the foam crap. Im just going to use panda plastic and a zipper to make a light proof door. As far as the venting thing, i may just put the ballast on top of the cab in rubbermaid like I use to. Oh well Im just not a carpenter .

check this door out , prob work for you too

your a bit ahead of me , but we built the same type of boat , check out my two threads , you can get some white paintable caulk and go right over all the black , when the paint peels off because it's gunna

hope that helps , and it looks good , i'm right behind ya

I wish I could build that door but I really suck at measurements and cutting.

gunna put some new pics up today for you'z all

I made my trim, but you could use premade stuff for corners, the clips are easy and can go top or bottom , and the op.side just needs a latch

but def check out todays pics 'cause i show the light board and the vent system, both half done

DrWillieSurvive Latitude18 ...yes I will :p

The guts

The guts

Well I went and had a board cut to fit the front opening exactly and said screw the zipper. Now I have a door that slides right in and and the front door. I have the ballast inside for now and I will have a fan blowing out the half inch crack of the door. over all it looks pretty sweet and I need to transplant today ot tomorrow.

I gotta idea for ya. Gawd you're gunna fucking hate this!hehe

In looking at your last pic....... :chin: How about if you cut another hole right above your blue fan & use a short section of ducting straight up. That'll eliminate the "S" in your vent hose & make it more quiet & efficient. Next, you could cool the ballast with a small (cheap) 80 cfm inline fan which goes to the first vent hole. Just set it up so that it sucks hot air right off the ballast.
Now, didn't you just want more work?
Glad I'm too far away to be whacked........ :bat:

Very nice box that you have coming along there strain searcher. How many watts is that light?

That hole above the light is actually venting the ballst area.

These little one were in 16 ounce cups about 10 days too long but they love their new organic soil and 400 watt hps.

Update. highest recorded temps after on all night was 81 degrees. I could actually put my hand on the ballast and it was just warm(first time that has happened) the hole in the middle is actually pulling ballast air back into the cab and then out exhaust. With lights off temps are 68 degrees. :yummy:

Well all I can say is outstanding job SS :respect:
I see in your pics that u got your hands on a speed switch “good shit”
Are those plants the same strain as your last, previously posted here www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=20641
Are u still using the 400W Hortilux ?

Just goes to show what a little planning can do :chin:
2 Golden rules for building grows
1. Plan, Plan and Plan
2. Get all building materials to complete before starting
