50 Amp Timer

that looks like it does 8 lights at 240v and 2 accessories at 110v. Looks like 2 lights per circuit(2 lights per 20amp breaker in the quadpack) and both 110v outlets on a single 10amp breaker. The digital timer triggers a contactor for the lights. I don't think personally that its necessary to use a fancy contactor/relay or digital timer. You could just get 2 Intermatic T-104 timers(about $45 each at home depot), a small breaker box(+/- $30), necessary breakers(+/- $40), receptacles(+/- $15), work boxes(+/- $10), wire(+/- $10), simple timer for 110v(+/- $10), so that ends up around....$210 for a setup that works just as well and is just as safe. I wouldn't recommend trying to do this yourself without electrical experience unless you think you are a particularly fast learner. If thats the case you should do a lot of quick research on the basics of electrical wiring...books are available everywhere. Good luck buddy and feel free to ask me if you've got a question

imagine a gray metal box about 8 inches tall 5 inches wide and 3 inches deep with a door open it up and the clock wheel with the "trippers" on it. the bottom has the connection terminals and some open space ( about a third of the total volume) for ur wires and Kos for connectors.
i am sure intermatic has a site to check it out

You can find the same controll box on E-bay for $360. You can save some money there. Good luck with your thread. I'm thinking about buying a couple of these units or having a friend build me a large control panel.
Good luck,
BG

Why someone would spend all that money on relays wire and breakers baffles me when a wh 40 is all you need for the light fixtures.

i have run as much as 5400w on this timer board. the circuit breakers could be considered overkill, but an electrician reccomended i add them. the 8 plugs on the left are timed 240 and the 4 on the right are untimed 129. the timer has a wiring diagram on the door

That pretty much looks like the 50 amp timer...How much did it cost you to build?

I have no faith in electrical skills..Im sure I would fuck that up somehow!

Irie also...

That is all plugged into a dryer line correct.

Also im seeing posts saying whatever you plug into that line is what you pay for in your bill...Example if it wired for 4000 watts and your only running 2000 watts, it will still run up a bill saying your using 4000 watts even though your not... I know it sounds stupid, but im seeing this shit right here on ICMAG

Also with the timer you have there..say your running three lights, one exhaust, and one household fan and there all plugged into that device.
Will the timer turn off everything at once or only certain sockets, because I wouldnt want my fans and exhaust turned off, just because my lights go off.

Who ever is spreading that crap needs to learn what they're talking about. You will only consume as much power as you are using...not as much as you are capable of using. If I was using what my house is capable of, my light bill would be in the 5 digit range monthly.

If you'll notice, there are outlets connected to the timer and outlets that are untimed...the untimed outlets can have thier own timers plugged in (or none to run 24/7) to use different timing than the lights.
