45 day strains

42 days

i realize i'm late but i just came across this. i am currently growing sweet tooth #4 in a 12 bucket bio system ala big toke. i whack it at 42 days. you could go 45 to get a little more couch lock, but taken at 49 it was definitely overdone and lost something. this is from personal experience and feedback from others without them knowing the timing. everyone loves it at 42 days. btw this is an extremely easy plant to grow. clones root fast. i flower at around 15 in and get 3 oz average per. i'm into my 4th grow using the bio system, but i have been growing st#4 for about 2 years in different systems and still pulled them at 42 days. someone mentioned endless sky which i have also grown. while it does have a great buzz mine never finished before about 50 days and and really needed 56 or 60. i found the light timing thing very interesting. the lab rat jumped on the treadmill and it's "just a spinnin".

This is a simple cycle timer that sets for any on/off period from seconds to days. Of course you'll have to calculate the maintnance time since it will always change each day. At least with a cycle timer vs a 7 day 24 hour timer you don't have to use an odd number like 6:40. It will give the freedom to try 5,6,7,8,9 hours on etc.

Calculating the "ON" times each calendar day can be easily done using an Excel spread sheet program.

Yeah, glaed to see some interest in this. Im already into another standard cycle so it'll have to wait.

I didnt roll with it this time because I have a 240v ballast. Ive had a hard time locating a digital timer in 240 with the #of events needed.

I apologize if i had people waiting. But hey, Im gonna have a helluva grow coming up...Im flowering Blueberry again, along with GDP, Bogs BMR, Gypsys gum, and Starship, a norcal strain....

But if anyone can find a 240v digital timer, let me know and I'll buy it... it has to be a digital event timer though...

Keep it wasy ~caddy

I thought I'd give this thread a bump. I recently built a relay box, for 3 600 watt lights. The lights are 120v, so thats all I needed, but a box could be built just as easily for 120/240v. This box could switch all your lights, fans and equipment that needs to be synced to the lights (CO2 generator, for example). It is controlled by a digital timer, which could have handled 1 or 2 lights, but not the full load of 3. This would mean you could switch all your 240v stuff and your 120v stuff together easily. Also, this makes it a lot easier on the timer, as the relay only uses a tiny bit of power to hold the circuit, so it *should* (but don't quote me on that) last quite a bit longer. I'm at calendar day 18, but growth day 23 or 24. The light schedule takes a bit of getting used to, but it seems to be working just fine. I expect to be harvesting at the end of the month, and started flowering on Christmas (Dec 25), so this should make for a quicker turn around. I'm much more interested in growing some longer flowering strains now than ever before, I can say that much. :D

passion #1 has a flowering period of 6 weeks. Helluva stretch and looked more like an sativa than a indica, but that might have something to do with that its an outdoor strain and i grew it indoors.

rule35, looks like you copy & pasted the URL text from the thread rather than the URL itself. Doesn't work... :badday:

what a great thread. The idea of the 6:40/12 is genius and makes so much sense too when you think about it. When I first started growing I remember reading (Mel Frank I think) somehere that cannabis only needs 6 hours of direct light each day to reach its full potential and anything more than that is just bonus. The concept is so simple and obvious, but I dont think I would have ever thought to try. Great idea.

When I buy my grobot pro, I want to try this outdoors, that would be really cool. If I could squeeze another few harvests in by using the grobot and incorperate this technique too, that would be awesome.

Has someone started a grow diary for this? It would great to see a day by day account for how this method goes down. peace_highst

PS Aracta Trainwreck is a great 45 day strain.

my woodhorse trainwreck = tuckerwreck inbred line finishes at 49 days consistently - I've taken her to 65 days and it wasn't any better - it just sat there here she is at 38 days

Some things to look out for based on first impressions-

The stretch with 6:40/12 flowering is ridiculous at first. It is no wonder CosmicBadBoy "conveniently" started them flowering in 12/12 for a bit.

Also, if you have an Intermatic timer, it doesn't automatically start over at the end of the week, you have to put 1 more even switching it back on to make the week start over.

On a side note, the power company wouldn't see that your power bill spikes every 12 hours, it would be way more random.

I love this method!

I undserstand now but where can you find these timers and how much

Nope, no typos on times.

I am using an $20 Intermatic controller that I got off of Ebay. I think you can get them at Wal-Mart or Home Depot for a few bucks more. Took about 5 minutes to set up.

For $50, X10 home automation software works too. Plus you can control several timers on a minute to minute basis and even plug remotely monitored security cameras into it.

Timer

Jack,

The thing about the electric company seeing when you use the power isn't really a problem. Around here they send people to read the meter every month so they know how much juice we use. If they could track how much power we use at any given moment then they wouldn't need the meter readers. However some places might be more advanced and have some kind of digital meter that sends a siginal back or something, but not anywhere I've lived.

As far as the timers go, the intermatic's I've seen only go up to 500watts. This is the timer I used, probably bought it from this site too. It supports 15A, 1200W. But if you do the electical calculations you see that 15A * 110v = 1650W. I ran 3 400W HPS on one of them and it worked like a charm. There's 8 events, each with an on-off, so 16 total. It'd be perfect for 6:40/12.

I'm thinking of growing Magic Bud and JackFlash next time around, which will hopefully be soon. Does anyone here have experience with these strains? MB is supposed to be pretty quick to flower, can anyone testify to this?
